"Died once, revived, died again." Cass shrugged. "I didn't remember anything after being revived, so it didn't make that big of a difference..but I have this feeling like I don't fear death sometimes. Gonna need someone to make sure I don't hurt my head again."

She chuckled a bit at the thought. Death by headshots. D'oh! She didn't...mention the fact that both times had been her own fault either. She left that part out quite happily and instead just settled in to watch other people shoot, taking some time to look over the make of the gun she was holding.

She knew absolutely nothing about it. She needed to...research or something better about getting herself some working knowledge, that was for sure. Had dreamphase gun run off of bullets? She was somewhat curious about that. Then again, she didn't even know if that she was dreaming of was even a tangible thing..

"Better than seeing nothing but a group of body suits," Emmaline agreed. She wondered how they had managed to survive all that they'd gone through on the island-- did it have something to do with the room of pods they had emerged from? And if Caelius, or whoever was controlling them, had managed to keep them from dying last time, did that mean they couldn't die here, either? She didn't want to risk it, regardless.

Taking aim again, she slowly pulled the trigger and missed again, the shock reverberating up her arm and forcing her to take a step back. She felt a little discouraged as everyone around her hit their targets, including Marcus.

"Have you done this before? I can't seem to get the hang of it."

Feeling shame rushing to his cheeks, Leon ruffled his hair and looked at his feet. Throwing the gun made sense at the time, mind the fact that he was in a fit of rage and frustration. But the gun still had bullets in it, and might still be needed sadly. It still felt good to throw it though.
"Yeah, now i have ta go get my firearm back, maybe i'll get lucky and we can use a close range weapon soon."

Taking the walk of shame over to his discarded gun, its polish just tarnished with a couple of scratches. maybe a good hit to it would sort the thing out. Watching the other girl go to town on the old bag gave Leon a twinge of jealousy as he placed the gun's safety on. Let the ones who work better at ranged weapons go ballistic. "Wow, not a bad shot there man." he quipped up to Jeremy.

Before had kept to the back the moment Caelius showed them the proper handling of the gun. The former Beta was reluctant to get his own gun, mumbling something about having a hairpin trigger the last time. He checked the magazine and saw it was full with real bullets. He gulped, even gave Boss and everyone nearby a look of apprehension. When they started firing at that... whatever the ******** it was, he saw some of them missing their mark. 8CCCCCCC was Before panicking? Oh s**t, he was.

Maybe that's why when he squeezed his shot wouldn't even hit the broad side of a barn xAx "Why do I only hit when I don't mean it???"

((ooc: 8C still on phoneternet))

There was a moment Before attempted to explain why he was a terrible shot. He'd always been a terrible shot. His past was catching up to him. His target moved at the last minute. He had his eyes closed and so on and so forth. Keyword being attempted. It was just mostly his mouth opening and closing without any words coming out. Unfortunatley with all the cordite wafting about, it irritated Before's eyes and nose.

"Ah-Ah-Ahchooooo!!" he suddenly sneezed, eyes and finger on the trigger squeezing. There was the sharp jerk from the recoil, then the sound of gunfire followed as the bullet grazed the hag-thing without Before even realizing it. "I think I like the airguns better," he sniffled.

Davey didn't have much to say through the helicopter ride (deafening at best), the landing, or the short trek (too busy cursing the pack that would no longer fit on his back due to not having an arm on one side to keep it from sliding off). Why yes, Davey was not in the best mood.

Still, he was nothing if he wasn't a soldier. Caelius explained their first training session. Davey wasn't thrilled that it was with guns, but at least it wasn't a rifle that required two hands. (He wouldn't put it past the b*****d, he really wouldn't.)

Once the others had taken their tries, Davey eventually joined the line and took up the gun. It hadn't been that long since he'd owned one of these, but at the same time, it felt like a lifetime ago. There was no telling how off his aim might be by now - out of practice, and a different centre of gravity.

Still, no sense dawdling. Davey fired at the obviously supernatural figure.

The shot missed. Davey scowled, set the safety back on the gun and left it for the next person to try.

Jeremy took his final shot without a single thought. Though, at that moment he heard a voice beside him...WHAT THE HELL WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?! The blonde missed his shot with a startled jump, but luckily he didn't turn towards his comerades at the same time. Wide gold eyes stared at the person beside him, and upon recognizing him as a fellow trainee, seemed to relax.

"Up 'till now, anyway." Jeremy replied, an uncharacteristically nervous grin moving on his lips. Lowering his arms and rolling his shoulders to try and ease the tense muscles from the gun's kickback. "Sorry man, I wasn't watching, how'd you do?" The nervous tinge to his grin was fading now that he was looking away from the creature.

Davey took up the gun again, after a few other people had their next tries.

He wasn't sure if the last guy had been speaking to Davey or to Mister Tactless over there, but there was one reply to suited both of them attempts. "Badly," Davey stated, voice flat. He gave a small snort of self-targeted laughter. What else had he been expecting, after all? To be somehow brilliant despite months of no training and the loss fo an arm? What a dreamer he apparently was.

"Let's see if it's possible to get any worse," he said to himself, taking aim at the figure again.

Why yes, yes it was. Another miss.

Davey had better control than to swear while his commanding officer was nearby, but he was definitely tempted. His clenched jaw and the white-knuckled fist he was making might have given that away to the others.

(( Hi, Huni's phoneternet sucks when gaia-posting so I'm posting it for her! ))

Before was letting his arm rest from the recoil (having realized he had shot twice but not knowing if he hit anything the second time) and found himself unintentionally staring at Davey when the one-armed man got his own gun. Teal eyes blinked in confusion at the misses, huh, he was sure the bad-assery would have meant sure-fire hits. 8CCCC Illusion not completely shattered because whatever the result was, Davey was taking it in stride.

Damn, would Before ever get to that level of stoic awesomeness and cool-i-tude? Looking down at himself, then at his gun, Before doubted it. Still, he scooted a smidge bit away from Davey, closer towards Tika (who had the most awesome hairdo on a girl he'd ever seen, jsyk 833333 ) who up to that point probably didn't know how much of a spaz Before really was. Well, if she'd been at the orientation, she probably already did DX actually, he wouldn't be surprised if everyone on the entire island didn't take him seriously. Hag-thing included and just- xAx!!!!

Oh jeez, Before was working himself into a panic again. Except instead of making the logical move of BREATHING in order to calm down, Before raised his handgun at the hag-thing. And holy s**t, did he really just hit it? On purpose? O.O!!!!

Bix was sort of interested in people's talk of dying. Of course he had too, but only the once and it seemed more like falling asleep than actually dying. He wanted to ask the girl, Cass, about it but thought again. Perhaps they should leave that all behind them.

Oh yeah, and there was the crazy hag monster who WOULDN'T DIE.

Now that he'd stopped firing, he had a chance to really appreciate how scary this whole situation was. Thankfully being in a huge group and handed guns kept the edge off. GODDAMMIT. Even Before was hitting the thing!!

"Nice..." Bix was glad to see his friend's flailing once again paid off, but on the other hand was really frustrated that he'd failed so badly with this task so far. But hey... at least other people seemed to be missing too.

It was Before's day for surprises, then, because Davey turned his head, blinked at the hit, and said, "Nice shot."

Before might not have been so happy had he known that the only reason Davey was paying attention to Before was because Davey was waiting for another foot-in-mouth episode. Or some kind of comment on how Davey's craptastic aim with his gun was related to the lack of an arm, and then Davey was taking it out on the guy's hide, fellow soldier or no.

So far so good, though. And Davey was pleasantly surprised by Before's compentance. Maybe there was hope for this ragtag bunch, after all.

With that in mind, Davey stepped up for his last shot. He took careful aim, both eyes open, and breathed out slowly as he squeezed the trigger...

The shot rang out. The figure jerked. A direct hit.

Finally!

He'd never had problems with motion sickness. There was a first time for everything. The helicopter had felt like it was going to shake apart, but that wasn't what had done it. No, it was the weightless dive into nothingness that had had Jordan clutching grimly at his seat and clenching his teeth in an attempt not to allow his stomach to climb up out of his throat. It had taken him longer than he'd liked to recover from the ride and grab his supplies; consequently, he'd been toward the back of the group.

He hoped that leaving the island wouldn't be like that every time, and suspected dismally that it would.

He listened carefully to Caelius as the man spoke, storing away the information, both what Caelius said and what he left unsaid. So. His sense of something missing might be more accurate than he'd thought; Caelius's words implied that being disarmed was more than being empty-handed. Perhaps more like an amputation of sorts. Jordan glanced swiftly to Davey, looking away again before the other man noticed. There was living proof that being - hm, at a disadvantage - didn't mean you couldn't fight. But if his guess was right, he'd have to be careful; if a Hunter's weapon was more like a part of themselves than a tool, being disarmed might be a system shock.

The change in the atmosphere and the sudden, shambling appearance of something strange startled him. Wonder about his theories later. Shoot now. It shouldn't be possible for anything to keep coming at them after being hit like that, but he'd seen a lot of impossible things recently. The rules he knew were apparently incorrect.

He picked up a gun, silently repeating the instructions to himself. Check, reload. High grip, firm grasp. One foot forward for stability, aim, fire.

He'd expected the noise and the recoil, but it made him flinch anyway, jerking his aim out of true. He grumbled a curse under his breath.

"Ohhh, nice work Before," She had been expecting some sort of... Well, entertainment from the guy, but perhaps he did improve from his gun-flailing-failing days? That would be good; she might not say it out loud, but she was kind of worried about him and Bix... The later could use less fail though.

Up till now, she had somehow managed to miss him - he wasn't there at the meeting, and she had been too busy enjoying (90% of the time anyway) the helicopter ride here to notice him, but...

"JEREMY," She practically attacked him from behind, draping her arms over his shoulders like a kid asking for a piggyback ride before tiptoeing, pulling him closer as she grinned, "You're late~ What did I say about making a girl wait?" Despite what she was saying, she was really glad to see him. Really, really glad.

Before's performance wasn't stellar by any stretch of the imagination but he'd hit that scary-a** hag-thing twice! Once even on purpose! He turned to face Bix with a grin so wide Before looked like he just won the lottery or something. Simple mind, simple pleasures. So when Davey complimented (it was a compliment, right?) him on his shooting, the teal-eyed young man lit up like a Christmas tree.

"Y-you think so?" He grinned to Davey then Boss as he held the gun close to him, maybe this time around it wouldn't be so bad. Until he shot someone on their team that is D8 He tilted his head when Ariane flung herself at some guy. Some guy he didn't know and hadn't seen until they got on the chopper. 8CCCC
