It took a moment to sink in, his expression going from confusion... registration...shock... and then running from a light pink in the cheeks to a full out crimson from the top of his head all the way down his neck.
He directed a kick after Ever's retreating backside still scarlet.
"You think you're so damned clever..." he replied utterly refusing to make eye contact. "You are so... so... Oooooh!..." He shook a hand at Ever utterly at a loss for a rebuttal, well...maybe not at a loss just unable to make himself say anything in kind.

Ever laughed at the kick, surprised more than anything else really, and then again at the Leave It to Beaver-style scolding Zac gave him -- but he looked a little flushed too, sweeping hair back off of his forehead and shaking his head. Their waitress didn't look amused, glowering at Zac like she was thinking about telling him to cool it before giving up and just leading them to the table.
"I don't get it. Are you just easier to get at than, uh, the opposing team?" He dropped down to sit, leaning on the table and reaching immediately for his water. "Or do I lose a large chunk of my IQ points when I get in uniform?"

"...Second option." He shot back grabbing up the menu to hid behind.
"You have to earn it back by refraining from perverted jokes in public places." He said and slid down a bit in the pleather seat.
The menu dropped for a moment to reveal his still blushing face "And I am not easy to get at!" He said and then snapped the menu back into place as a visual shield so he wouldn't have to share the blush.
It dropped again for a split second so he could add "Pervert." and then snapped it back.

Almost immediately, Ever's legs sprawled out under the table, easily bumping into Zac's personal space, feet against his feet, and his own attention skimming over the menu as if nothing were happening. Of course, he'd done this pretty much every time they sat down, so comparatively -- maybe nothing really was happening.
"You're ketchup colored, Zac." It was mild, mock-concerned, touched with an edge of laughter behind it.
"I think you're about the easiest to get at." Nevermind the menu; he closed it and put it down. He already knew what he wanted [eggs, he'd said it, hadn't he?] so he just settled his chin in his hand and watched Zac.

"Shut up." Came the retort, at least he didn't try and deny it, but his face probably felt hot enough to cook the desired eggs on.
A hand reached out and ferried the other water glass behind the menu for a moment while he took the time to try and stuff his erstwhile embarrassment at such a public statement.
"You're the religious one... why aren't YOU the one blushing." He demanded, flopping the menu down having at least made up his mind. "How can you just... SAY something like that?"

"I'm ******** either way." It was blasé, but -- well, it covered a bit of a flinch, Ever shaking his head and finally looking away. His eyes twitched in search of the waitress, some kind of reprieve, but none was to be found.
So. Fine. Instead he leaned forward and blinked at Zac again, considering that. "I don't see what being religious has to do with it. I mean, just having the thought is enough to screw me over, and I can't very well stop the thoughts. So why not."

"But... it..." He waved his hands searching for words, none came, at least not good ones.
"It's like.. PDA,but verbal!... and that's bad! NO one likes PDA except maybe the people who like rubbing it in people's faces its BAD..." he flustered and then it was his turn to search for a waitress.
The idea that a -thought- could condemn someone put one hell of a scowl onto his face as well but he bit his tongue on the subject, literally.

Ever worked fingers into his hair, shrugging just a little, his own expression puzzled -- mostly because that was a hard statement to answer, the entire stream of thought so alien that it didn't quite connect. Finally, he licked his lips, starting with the easiest one there to answer.
"...that's...not why people...hum. I've never...okay, maybe 'never' is a strong word, but...." He dug, strangely at a loss for words. Ever usually could manage better than this. "If you're touchy-feely in public, it usually has more to do with, um, attraction, than any thought for the people around you."
A thought, and a nod, his shoulders hiking. "And if it's about rubbing it in someone's face, you're generally doing it wrong."

It was a blessing that the waitress finally showed up to take their orders and offer coffee, Zac looked about as flustered as a canary with a cat sitting on top of its cage. If his proverbial feathers got any more ruffled he'd probably molt. "But It... you ...society is..." he fumbled "And..."
And was interrupted by a cough and a question of what he wanted to order. He stared at her for a moment flabbergasted, like he was for just a minute confused as to why she wanted to offer him food before he grabbed the menu again and ordered home fries and a mixed juice/sprite drink that sounded vaguely tropical before leaning back looking flustered still waiting on you.
After she left he just...shook his head.
"But People aren't that... ok well you and ... well... ... Im not... like, that..."

Eggs; Ever really wanted eggs, but he ordered with a certain aplomb, blinking up at the waitress and politely asking for tea, too. Caffeine might help with the beating at the base of his skull. She took one look at his eyes and seemed to understand.
He was still blinking after her when Zac spoke again; he had to drag his attention back over, feet shifting under the table, not quite kicking. It was probably unintentional. "Why not, though? I mean, you're...um. However old, you must have some..."
He let that trail off, deciding not to touch on the subject of Zac's potential sex drive.

"Must have some what" Zac prodded darkly gripping his water glass.
"Experience?" He promoted... "What were you going to Say..." he pressed despite the refreshed ketchup pallor to his cheeks. He punctuated the question by picking his own feet up and propping them firmly on top of Evers.

"Um. Well, yes, experience..." Ever hesitated, though, tripping over that, because there really was no guarantee of that. He certainly hadn't, at Zac's age. He looked flustered, digging for something useful to say.
"I meant more...more like...interest." Screw it; he shook his head gestured vaguely at Zac, feet shifting a little under his. "If you know you're gay, then you must have at least some interest."

Zac looked well... not quite appalled but more like he just looked up to see a fast moving train that he hadn't noticed till it got about 5 feet from him.
"So?" he said flushing and staring hard at the paper placemat. "Doesn't mean I want to see everyone eating each other's faces or grabbing posterior in public...on weekends you'd think half of Hillworth was trying to eat the tongues out of the...tramps they bring home...ugh... AND that one kid who does the weird things in the locker room that's just..." he shuddered.
"Being interested doesn't mean I want to -see- it everywhere is all..." He sighed.

"No, but..." But Ever paused, hesitant, trying to figure out how exactly he had turned into Zac's guidance counselor at this. He wasn't a stellar example of how to deal with relationships -- though, at the very least he hadn't gone home with anyone since Zac had found him a stable place to stay. He flushed quietly, spreading his hands and trying to figure out what to say.
"Goddamnit, this is awkward. Like, really awkward. Okay." He leaned forward, finally, arms crossed over the table, and met Zac's eyes squarely. "Presumably you want to do it, is my point. And if you found the right person, I don't know, whether or not you were in public would matter less."
Not that it wouldn't matter, of course. Just less.

He sighed and looked at least openly uncomfortable rather than defensively angry. "It's awkward for both of us ok? I didn't like...cuddling in public with the first person I dated I just don't think it'd make a difference If I tried again...that's all."
