Begging pardon, but I am your childhood friend -
We met catching fireflies at our first summer's end.

We parted the spring after, and not without tears.
So imagine my delight when word came to my ears

That now again we are in nearly the same place!
I thought not to trouble you, but remembered your smiling face -

Well, the thought, like a burr, is stuck in my mind.
I had to send word, and hope you'd respond in kind.

So now, this nettlesome nostalgia to sate -
I wonder if, perhaps, we could make a date?

It's good that one of us is brave and daring,
Because I've been here worrying and despairing.

I heard the very news that you did,
And yet, I merely paced and fretted.

Of you and I, I was uncertain,
If I was forgotten, I did not want to burden.

But in my quagmire who should appear,
But none other than the kin I hold dear.

For one date or twenty, I'll always say yes!
