Ren wished he could have wiped the tears from Tset's face; she looked as if she had been crying for days, but in his condition all it would do would be to smear blood across her face. He'd learned this from accidentally getting blood on the front of her dress when he hugged her; Alessa's shirt had a nice red stain on it from him as well. It might have made him embarrassed at any other time, but considering that he was just happy to see them, happy they were alive.

They're alive, right..?

He managed a weak grin at his ghoulfriend, pulling back to rest his forehead against hers briefly. "I thought I could impress you, ya know? Be the heroic hero -- "

Ren broke away, coughing again, but he turned his head from Alessa so that he wouldn't cough so near. He spat out a mouthful of blood onto onto the ground, feeling lightheaded.

Alessa's cries for him to stop and sit down did not deter him as he walked towards the nix. Something was wrong with Gabrian; something was very, very wrong. His fingers were gentle; very light on the demon's shoulder, and Ren was standing at least two feet away from him when he turned, but that did not stop him from staggering backwards in a horrified shock as Gabrian raised his hand towards him. Ren jerked his hand back abruptly, his eyes wide, his fingers trembling.

Where am I? What am I doing? Who are you?

What's going on..?

"G-Gabrian..." Ren managed to get out, his voice hoarse. He was swaying where he stood, feeling weak, not entirely himself yet (Had he ever been himself?), but not trusting himself to even move, to take another step back. He was frightened of Gabrian. Frightened at that look in his eyes. Why were his eyes so...dead? Dead? Alive? Or half dead, half alive? Were they just drifting somewhere?

Where am I?

He tried again, shaking his head as if to clear it. "G...Gabrian...it's me, it's...it's R-Ren..."

His voice was shaking. How pathetic. How weak.

But then Gabrian's arms had wrapped around him and quite suddenly Ren found himself pressed in a tight embrace, the nix's face against his neck. There was a soft thump as something fell to the ground - his bag, perhaps? He would have laughed at any other time; laughed and told him he was being silly, but no such feelings came this time. The way Gabrian's shoulders shook, the way his voice trembled as he whispered...the way Ren felt a warm dampness on his neck....no, this wasn't a laughing matter.

Not a laughing matter at all.

"Me too," he whispered, his voice breaking slightly. No, he wouldn't cry. Not now. Not here. "Jack, me too."

Ren lifted a hand, fingers gripping Gabrian's shirt so tightly his knuckles were white. He buried his face into the nix's hair, breathing in the warmth, doing nothing but simply standing still.

Standing still and standing with his best friend.

You can barely hear it. "N-no," A soft sob; a figure in the mist suddenly stumbled and fell, its sobs growing louder. "No! Please! Don't--"

The voice broke off as it stumbled to its feet. You can barely make out who -- or what it is. "N-n-no! No no no! NO! NOOOOOO!" It keens, lurching to its feet before tackling the mysterious hooded figure!

The figure vanishes into the mist as a loud scream of pain, amplified by the fog surrounds you. Where are they now? In front of you? Behind?! It is too difficult to tell. You can't see anything. You can only hear the harsh scream and clench your fists as the cornstalks rustle. One second, two second, three; the cry fades away thirteen seconds later.

The cornstalks rustle, and a figure emerges.

It was only by sheer willpower that Ren did not pass out when he felt the hand at the back of his collar, yanking him away from Gabrian. All he saw was a blur of black, and then something hit him from behind; something hard. Ren let out a shriek of pain, panic seizing through his veins, rising in his throat.

He saw stars - lots of them, dancing behind his eyes. The world tilted. Then -

....it was gone?

...where am I..?

The ground. That's what he felt. The cold, hard ground pressing against his face. Ren blinked, reaching a hand up. He could feel something wet on his cheek, and when he drew back his fingers, they were coated in red. And there was something on the ground in front of him. What are those..? They looked like tiny scraps of paper. Maybe...maybe pieces of something..?

...and where is my bag..? Wasn't it on my back..?

He stretched out a trembling hand. Touched a few scraps. Pulled them towards him.

I was being attacked...wasn't I..?

...so why am I not being attacked right now..?

The figure was still there; but, then again, so was something else, but Ren could not tell who or what it was. Whatever it was, it flung itself onto the hooded figure. There was a scream. Echoes. A scuffle. Ren closed his eyes. The cry was fading, fading, then -

Silence.

Then a rustling noise. Ren's eyes fluttered weakly. He dared to open them again.

Another figure.

He closed them. Back to sleep.

Back to the darkness.

Ren's HP: 3.

"How pitiful." The robed figure stepped into view, scorn dripping from their voice. The figure held onto a stalk, gloved fingers running down the leaf in a twisted caress. "To think that one of our own was taken in such a way by the fog. Ha! What a weakling. To know the fog is to master it, to master it is to be strong." The stalk of corn was suddenly snapped, part of the plant tossed aside as the hooded figure stepped closer to the group.

Uncaring, it stepped over Ren as it focused its attention on those still standing. "My, my, a little... lost are we? How pathetic!" The note of mock-concern in the figure's voice dropped to a sneer as it studied the students before it, smirking as it drew forth its weapon.

"Since you lot aren't obviously going anywhere, why don't we settle this once and for all and see who prevails? Shall it be me, or shall it be you? Or you? Or you? Come now! One or all, all or none, come at me and give me your best shot!"

((Wow, Gabe, way to FAIL. You're a fail face. I'm guessing more than one of us can challenge it at the same time?))

One moment, he'd been holding onto Ren, while the next... he felt his friend forcefully yanked away from him. The rest all seemed to happen in slow mo; the way the gryphon fainted, the sobbing getting louder (or was it more real - had that sobbing always been real or was it also an illusion?). There's even words now, though that does not surprise him, given the nature of the events from earlier.

The figure that had helped them vanished and another cloaked figure stepped into view, mocking them, urging them to fight, and yet... Gabrian found he could not. His gaze was on the fallen gryphon.

(( Yes, you are all free to gang up on the reaper. 8D Keep in mind that he will ONLY attack people who have attacked him.

...unless someone trips over, steps on, or somehow manages to hit Ren. :C Poor gryphon boy, someone should really think about rolling him out of the way!

I'll check in on this thread later today and have the Reaper attack back those how have attacked him, so if there's five people RPing here and four people attack the reaper, then those four people will be the only ones that suffer the Reaper's counter-attack. If that makes sense. XD ))

It was Alessa's voice and fingers on her arm that dragged Tsetsiliya's eyes from the fog. She shook her head and gave the ghoul a weak smile.

"Y-yes, I am thinking so.." Her gaze drifted back towards the fog, where the shapes leered just out of reach, their cries and laughter echoing distantly in her ears. She hated this island. Christmas Town was a grand party compared to this place. As Gabrian returned, the poor boil looked as though somebody had punched him hard.. was he having a hard time breathing. "G-Gabrian.." Ren had gotten up and moved over to his friend, and where he had lain, Tsetsiliya found her bag (much to her relief). She followed the boil's progress with concern as both leaned against each other, and immediately her heart and stomach clenched painfully.

This island was going to destroy them if they stayed. They had to keep their wits about them. The tiny ghoul clutched her skirt material and turned to Alessa. A plan was needed, and it was needed now.

"I am going to bind again his hand, then we are needing to leave soon. LW.. we are finding her too, we must.." Her anxieties at being a part of this close-knit group were still raging, but she was not going to abandon them because of it. She was a more practical ghoul than that. "This island.. the fog.. it is doing things --" The moment was interrupted as Ren was pulled from Gabrian by one of the cloaked figures. There was a bit of a scuffle and some other figure appeared, this time ready to challenge them.

Not today.

Tsetsiliya narrowed her eyes. The ghoul's nerves were absolutely frayed, and the sight of poor Ren, hanging on by his last thread after that attack.. she could not sit by anymore. Immediately she was on her feet, the mace in her hands. It felt warm, like the heat of the sun, which kept her oriented for the moment. Certainly she was terrified, beyond terrified even. But she wouldn't let them take her friend.

"Wyjść zaraz." She gripped the mace with shaking hands, moving forward to stand next to Gabrian. This island had pushed her around, pushed her friends around, and Jack damn her if she were to go back on her promise. Before she could think too much about it, she jumped at the figure and swung. Her mace made contact, and she staggered back towards the nix, her arms shaking more than before. She had done it, she had actually done it.

Stupid boil! Why wouldn't he stop moving? Being 'heroic' did no good in his state. And yet when she saw how Gabe looked, his eyes glazed and expression dark, she knew he was seeing things like she had when she'd run. Whatever his demons were, irony aside, he was seeing them. "R-Ren-" was all she could manage, because as Ren drew near to his best friend she didn't feel she had the right to stop him. He was hurting himself more, but...they needed the connection. So she bit her tongue, clutching at the hem of her skirt as she looked away, looked at Tset with a painfully exhausted expression. They were all pushing their limits.

And suddenly they weren't alone. She had been trying to listen to Tset, when out of nowhere a figure grabbed Ren and tossed him to the side. Ren was in no shape to move on his own, let alone be thrown about. Alessa shrieked at the sight, a wordless sound as instinct forced her to jump back a step. In that heartbeat of fear and hesitation, the first attacking figure was gone. Gone from what, she hadn't been able to tell, but instead there now stood another. She bristled at his proximity to Ren, tension filling every string of her body.

Alessa didn't consider herself a fighter. But she knew one thing; she needed to get Ren away from him before he was hurt beyond help, whether on purpose or by accident. So as Tset attacked Alessa ran forward. With a short, nimble jump she kicked the figure in the side of his ribcage, moving him slightly away from Ren, if only a foot or two. Then, with some difficulty, she took Ren by the waist and his good arm and half dragged, half carried him bit away. Once she felt he was far enough she set him down gently, panting, and turned tensely to face their attacker.

The robed figure laughs as the students attack. One glowing blade is brought up to parry Tset's mace, the Poludnica's Fear continuing to make the figure wince and pull back, sword raised to deliver a slash.

The raised sword wavered as Alessa kicked its side in passing, the sword falling from its hand and dissipating as soon as it touched the ground with a sharp hiss. "Why you --" the figure growled, spinning and...

Had anyone taken the time to ask Gabrian what on Halloween had just happened, the demon would have been hard pressed to explain what he'd seen. In fact, he wasn't even entirely sure the reaper had been real, given the fact it'd just ran away from them without so much as trying to attack back. Also, there was the fact both Tsetliya and Alessa had actually managed to land hits while he'd sat there looking shell shocked and stupid, though then again, in his defense, he was still recovering from a bout of insanity. Or... whatever it was he'd suffered; he wans't even sure that could be called insanity at all.

Staring after the reaper, the nix decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth and swiftly shook himself out of it, his gaze falling down on both Alessa and Ren, whom the nagual had managed to sort of drag pull to 'safety'.

On his way over towards them, not only did he find his bag again (had he tossed it over here? He distinctly recalled it landing elsewhere), and amidst the scraps of paper, he found a small orange bottle, which he lifted up to the air so he could examine, "How odd..." he paused and looked down at the nagual before presenting her with it, "I don't think this was here before. It says it's FEAR, and... he looks like he's in need of it," there was a moment of hesitation and he suddenly took the bottle back before she could take it, uncorking it so he could give it a long sniff, "I think it's safe to give it to him, what do you think?" having given the ghoul the bottle, he looked over Ren's form and rolled his tongue over his fangs, "We need to get out of here. I don't want to be here when that... guy decides to come back and finish us off," alas, the gryphon's sorry state made the idea of travelling rather awkward, "I'm also deeply worried over LW," this was said in a murmur, most of his attention still on the boil Alessa held in her arms.

There was a beat and then the nix snapped his fingers together, "I'll carry him," he crouched down beside them and then turned to offer them his back, peering over his shoulder, "I'm going to need your help; can you place him against my back? And... do you think you can work on fixing his arm up while we move?" he turned to look at Tsetliya then, offering her a smile, "I'm sure that between the both of you you can patch him up while we move. It's just... I don't think it's terribly safe to stay here," his tail twitched, his brows knitting together, "I want to get out of this blasted cornfield. Something tells me it has a lot to do with why I'm seei-" he cut himself off and swallowed, "The voices. And other things," he decided to leave it at that, figuring he didn't really need to elaborate. Pushing himself up to his feet with Ren against his back in a sort of piggyback ride position.

"Shall we then?" the words were reminiscent of what he'd told Tsetliya and LW before heading off towards the cornfields but... this time, he had no hands to offer.

Alessa had managed to land a nice hit, sure, but a fighter she was not. So when their strange opponent fled, she was relieved. It also meant that she could tend to Ren, who was even worse off than he had been before, if that was possible. She patiently waited as Gabe fussed over the bottle he found and when he finally seemed to think it was alright she tipped its contents very carefully into Ren's mouth. She did it slowly and in small amounts so that he wouldn't start coughing or anything. With that she discarded the bottle, hoping it did some good.

"I agree," she said hesitantly, and it was only when he offered to carry Ren that she looked a little more comfortable. Well, not really, but at least resigned to their decision. "Alright, but you need to be careful...we don't want to bang him around too much." That said, she helped Gabe get Ren onto his back. She was especially careful about his arm, as Gabe couldn't really be from his position. They really needed to do something about it.

"I'll see what I can do," She murmured. Once Ren was secure she began to unlace each of her arm warmers, in the hopes to use them to tie up Ren's arm as they went. She followed very quickly along with Gabe, staying very close both to help with her boilfriend and...well, for her own comfort. She peeked quickly over her shoulder, offering Tset a quaking smile, "Y-yes we should...get out of here. Before anything else happens." And before anyone else got hurt.

Black, black, and more black.

This was all Ren saw. In fact, if he weren't in so much pain he might have been exasperated.

Yes. Pain. A lot of pain, especially on his right hand, to be exact. It kind of felt like someone had stabbed him straight through his palm.

...or had they?

Oh, and he was tired. So very, very tired. This was mostly why he wasn't opening his eyes; or rather, why he couldn't open them. They felt as heavy as lead.

Besides, there was nothing to see, anyway, right?

So very tired...

Tsetsiliya kept her mace at the ready as Alessa landed her hit on the enemy. The ghoul had enough forethought to tug Ren to safety, something of which the poludnica was half ashamed she did not think of and half relieved, as she probably could not have lifted him anyway. Their adversary had done a good job of parrying, and looked ready to launch another attack when..

.. It turned and ran. If it was a tactic of some kind, Tsetsiliya honestly couldn't think of what it meant. Sensing Alessa's relief, she too let her mace droop at her side with a sigh. Gabrian was luckily on top of their next move, tossing the bottle that they had received to the rabbit nagual for her to give to the poor gryphon. In that time, she took a moment to gather her bag and shove the scattered contents back into it before shouldering it once more. Another uneasy glance towards the corn stalks showed her the same figures lingering just out of sight, their dull eyes narrowed in happiness. But they seemed to be fading now.

Good riddance, she thought.

The rabbit nagual was helping Gabe secure Ren onto his back, and they were soon to be on the move again. Tsetsiliya nodded and tore more strips from her hem, moving quick as her frazzled nerves would allow. Her hands were still shaking, making the strips rather uneven, but they would do for now. She handed a bundle of them to Alessa, returning her uneasy smile, and stationed herself at Gabrian's side, next to the gryphon's injured arm.

"Please," was all she said to both nix and nagual as they pressed on.
