Petro had been expecting an attack ever since he got separated from the group. Divide and conquer was a tactic as old as time, perhaps even older than Halloween Town itself. So when the figure appeared before him and grabbed at him, the cry that came forth from his mouth was not one of surprise but one of battle.

Instinctively, he swung his mace at his assailant's hands, attempting to knock himself free, and if the fog would just stop messing with his aim, possibly even break bone. That is, if the axe-wielding figure had any bones to break.

The mace did hit, but there was only silence on the figure's part - there was no cry of pain, no indication that it had been hit. While its weapon was twice its size, the figure was swift and quick, making no wasted movements as it moved back, axe swinging out in a sweeping motion across the boil's bare chest. It would leave a stinging sensation, leaving him feeling rather drained.

A grunt was all Petro allowed himself to make, gritting his teeth to bite back any other sound of pain he could make as the blade cut bare skin. It just stung, stung, that was all, he insisted to himself. He'd felt worse from sparring with his cousins. His arms felt heavier than they did for some reason but he didn't have the time to see why. Upwards he swung his mace, his movement sluggish, practically telegraphing to his agile opponent what he was going to do because all he managed was to graze him with his weapon.

His weapon that had gotten bigger and less blunt. Later he would come to realize he had managed to channel his FEAR into it. Right now, he had to focus on the fight.

(( Response to day 2 event ))

"Would you all be quiet! Arguing is not going to help."

Sheridan hissed, his voice certainly not a whisper. He didn't care if anyone wanted to shout, being quite convinced that those cloaked creatures were watching every move they made reguardless of how loud or quiet they were. What he -did- care about was that this was no time to be fighting amongst themselves. Really, that just made them all the easier to pick off, and they had more important things to focus on than petty squabbles.

LIKE THIS DAMNED FOG!

It was an all too familiar feeling, consumed in the empty whiteness of the fog. He might have sighed in that 'here we go again' sense, he might have, that is if he weren't too busy lashing his tail about, trying to strike at whatever was hiding in fog, or maybe he was lashing at the fog itself.

Deep breath, relax, he had to think, striking out was doing no good, and it was too great a risk that he would strike a friend in his flailing (not that it hadn't felt good to strike out at -something-). What was it that Jericho had said? The creatures were after their FEAR? It was certainly a possibility. Was the fog a creation of those creatures, were they using it to drain them all of their FEAR?

But surely even if that were the case, there was more to it than that. What of the girl, the 'traitor' that had been snatched on the beach? There was also the possibility that the fog had been created to suppress their fear rather than drain it, did that mean their FEAR was a true threat to those creatures? Had they created it to protect themselves? It was an interesting theory. Either way, whatever it's purpose, he was certain this fog had been created by those creatures.

There was no time to ponder either theory further, the sound of voices snapping the dragon from his thoughts. His ears twitched, searching for the source, was it the others? No, it was--

His tail lashed out, striking at...nothing. He had been certain there was something there!

"Who's there?!"

Turning in one direction, then the the other, Sheridan searched through the fog. He could feel it, something was there, he -knew- something was there, and yet each time he lashed out, he met nothing but fog. The voices were growing louder, ringing in his ears.

Get out! GET OUT!

The dragon snarled, resolution set in his posture. Something was trying to scare them off, to stop them from reaching their destination. He could only hope that meant they were on the right track, so he followed the sound, hoping it would lead him closer to the lighthouse, and out of this fog.

"You won't scare me off!"

I'm coming for you! He strode forward with determination. He was going to reach that lighthouse, and no voice was going to stop him! His eyes strained to see ahead of him, his tail swaying side to side behind him, searching for any sign of a cliff he might be walking off the edge of.

How long had he walked? It seemed an eternity had passed yet he felt that his destination was as far away as ever. Eyes strained to see through the fog, was that a shadow? He could see them, shapes becoming more clear with each step, was the fog getting thinner? His wings spread, several strong beats in an attempt to push away the fog. Whether it worked or not he did not know, but he could see them more clearly now, the others? No, rocks? Was that the lighthouse in the distance seeming no closer than it had been when he'd started up this path? Where was everyone else?

He really hated this fog...

The figure danced on the spot, a short distance away from the boil after his last pathetic attempt to hit. The weapon was large, but it seemed to have no problems wielding it, swinging it above its head before charging at the boil again. Just before hitting him, however, the small figure jumped back suddenly, shaking its hips before dancing on the spot again, as if to say 'HA, just kidding!'

Tro's jaw clenched in anger, he wasn't even bother suppressing it. Whoever, whatever this thing attacking him was, it was mocking the boil, taunting him even. "Pretty nimble, ain't y'?" he growled at his attacker. Suddenly kicking off the ground to charge at him, the mace traveling in a rough arc that had him breaking gravel and stone but no luck in landing on his intended target. He was beginning to think his first blow was nothing more than dumb luck.

The figure did not respond. Instead, it just put even more distance between them, dancing away with the axe held tightly in its hand, regarding the boil as the audience rather than as a threat. Then, without warning, it charged forward quickly, bringing down the axe vertically, again aiming for the boil's chest... Perhaps that was the only place it could reach.

As the weapon was about to hit, it flared to life, glowing blue. The figure then stopped, barely touching its opponent. The axe stopped momentarily after the attack, and the figure shook its head; it was silent, but the message was clear: 'try harder, noob'. As quickly as it had attacked, it moved back again, standing still. Waiting.

Petro's face turned a very, very angry shade of red. Embarrassment, shame, fury, in these situations the best course of action was to try to calm down and attack where and when it was most advantageous. Unfortunately all logical and coherent thought fled from the young boil's head as he roared and charged. Every single blow missing.

Dancing about the boil's every blow, the giant axe did nothing to slow the figure down. It was graceful, even - if only this dance wasn't deadly. Hopping backwards to put some distance between them, the figure waited again, leaning casually on the giant axe now digging into the ground.

"That's the wrong way!"

A semi-solid figure stood right in front of Mac, a ghost child perhaps, sporting only a tattered white dress and one shoe. Both her eyes were missing, filled with empty black sockets. One of the eye sockets bulged - pop! - and a bundle of black pus and spiders crawled out of it, trickling down her chin, collapsing onto the ground. The other followed suite - pop - pop! - and continued even as she walked closer towards the reaper.

"You're going the wrong way, silly! The real way is THAT way." Suddenly, she was next to him, grabbing one end of his jacket. "Come with me, come this way, don't you trust me?"

((OOC: Only Mac can see this apparition!))

Mac scrambled to a halt, reeling back a pace or two when a little ghoul appeared before him. The Reaper took quick stock of the little one; she was missing a shoe? That was rather irresponsible of her Guardian. Then again, it was likely irresponsible of the Guardian to let her die in the first place. If she even was dead.

She had to be dead; nobody's eyes should pop and spew like that! Mac's lip curled in disgust, feeling a wave of nausea hit him. Ugh, eyes should not do that! No way, man. Nothing about this was right, nothing wa---hey, did she just...

"How the jack am I supposed to tell with all this fog?!" Mac demanded, suddenly rather irritated that she bothered to reprimand him when he couldn't see anything around him. What a creepy girl, what a---augh don't do that, so creepy! Startling as she suddenly appeared beside him to grab his jacket, he considered turning his bat on her to get her to leave him alone, but...he couldn't hit a child! Not one that, despite being creepy as all get out, was offering him the 'real way'.

"Not...particularly..." He murmured in uncertainty, though his feet were already leading him in the same direction the little girl suggested he should go.

With the amount of swings Petro was making, it was only a matter of time before one of them landed. Actually three landed. Granted they all just nicked the small figure, but given his record, weak blows were enough for the boil. Now if he could just land one with enough of his power behind it he'd show this wretched figure mocking him he meant business.

Arachne was unsure how long it'd had been since she'd lost sight of the others, and what direction she was walking in now. For all she knew she was going in circles - would this fog never end? She thought she could hear other noises, and listened intently, hoping it was her group, her friends..and that she would find them soon.

His blows were met again with silence from the figure; it seemed to get hit by the boil, but... Could it really just be dodging around the attacks? Or dancing around? It was hard to tell, and it pushed itself back by pushing against the ground with its weapon. Dancing on the spot again, it gestured for the boil to come with its free hand.

It normally took a whole lot more mindless swinging before Petro would begin to feel any signs of fatigue. But the strikes from the blade against his skin had started to take effect on him and the larger, less-blunt, FEAR-infused mace started to weigh heavier in his arms. He shook his head and grit his teeth, one bare foot pawing at the ground in warning. He was going to charge but the question was when?

Apparently right now.

He gave a loud, furious cry, suddenly hurled the mace at his opponent before bursting forward in an attempt to tackle him.

"Yes, this way, this way..." The girl seemed to not be able to make up their mind exactly where they wanted to be. One second they were holding Mac's hand, urging him forwards, the next they were nearly buried in the thick fog. This continued for a bit when suddenly, they stopped.

"Okay, found it!" The fog around her dissipated some, enough for Mac to see that they were standing on a small cliff overhang that strayed a good distance away from the path up towards the lighthouse. Below the girl lay thick, jagged rocks, a fall guaranteed of death, especially with Fear being so erratic on the island. She tilted her head to one side, and then the other - pop - went her eyes vigorously, bubbling spiders as she did so. "It's down there, I promise! Just jump down, and you'll find the real location!"

The figure allowed itself to be hit by the flying mace, but when the boil attempted to tackle it, it raised its axe and swept it across the space in front of it. That gesture caused a wind that would probably force him to stop or in his weakened state, to be pushed back a little. The figure then raised an arm, sticking out its index finger and wagging it at the boil; it was another silent gesture, but it clearly said 'Ah, no you don't!'

Then, without warning, the glow of the weapon vanished as the figure moved backwards into the fog. Just as the fog enveloped the figure, something glowing dropped out of its cloak, landing beside the path to the lighthouse...
