"Yes." Riyo admitted, doing her best to avoid sarcastic comments at a time like this. Her eyes glanced up at his, almost overlooking the swirl of his eyes. Almost. Her mind shot back to the pictures of the book, and her dirt covered face seemed to soften. He hid a lot... Didn't he?

"... Hey." Riyo's eyes glanced towards the area Neko was staring at, a hand tugging at the end of his shirt. "I won't pretend to think that I have a right to know your business, but since you get caught up in mine all the time, I figured I'd offer you the ear of somebody who wouldn't judge." She said very softly, doing her best not to step on the toes of somebody she considered invaluable to her own well-being. "And that's all I'll say about that..."

The anger seemed to melt away from Neko's face as he turned back to look at Riyo. He seemed to take in her words for a moment like he was a little caught off guard by what she was saying. "Come on...let's go back to the house." Neko said softly trying to guide Riyo back in that direction. "There's no telling what your Dad will do while unattended."

He didn't say anything more though. While her offer was nice there were just a lot of secrets that were secrets for a good reason. And some of his secrets were even secrets to him so there wasn't much to share.

Well, Riyo had sorta hoped that Neko would've surprised her with an actual answer, but she supposed no answer was better than a screaming match. "You have no idea." Riyo mumbled, not offering any comfort in that area.

Luckily, Jess was outside of the house, sitting on the porch intent on keeping an eye out for the two to return.

"Ah, there you guys are!" Jess called as he saw them walk through the trees, immediately standing. "Did you catch him?"

"No." Riyo hissed, looking ever so slightly pissed at her father.

Jess's eyes squinted as he noticed something was off with her face. It wasn't until they got closer that he realized what it was. "Oh honey, you're covered in dirt." He whined, immediately lifting up the end of his shirt to use it as a rag. If it hadn't been obvious already, Jess certainly wasn't ripped. His body was much like Riyo's. Thin, with almost microscopic signs of a six pack.

"Augh, what the hell?! It smells like man sweat and expensive colongue." she spat, trying to shake him off to no avail.

Stuffing his hands in his pockets Neko made his way back through the woods toward his house. They had actually made it a decent ways before they had lost the guy. Spotting Jess sitting outside, Neko didn't seem all that pleased as he made his way back up the stairs to head inside. "No, thanks for the help by the way." He said shortly before he made his way inside.

He didn't really want to point fingers and lay blame, it wasn't like something like that could be helped, but damn it the whole situation was frustrating. Glancing back as Jess started to mother hen Riyo, Neko immediately headed inside and for the liquor cabinet. He was going to need it now.

"I don't suppose you have any idea who that might have been?" He called back out the door. Neko was looking for something more specific than the media but he had a feeling he wasn't going to get it.

Jess couldn't help but flinch at Neko's response, concealing the small twinge of guilt he felt behind a neutral facade.

As soon as Jess stopped, Riyo followed Neko in, the sound of a familiar glass clinking catching her ears. Yeah. Booze sounded good... Though it'd probably take Neko a few drinks to convince him he wanted to share.

Like a beaten animal, Jess reluctantly walked in behind his daughter, fingers twiddling. "There are too many of them to recognize." It was a rather boastful comment, though he'd only half-intended it to be thus. "He's probably from one of those magazines the teen girls are so crazy about. They're always interested in my life. Moreso now than- is that booze?" He asked with a smile, looking at Neko intently.

Shaking her head, Riyo took a seat at the table and watched the two men interface. As much as she wanted to say something to her father, it was time to take a backseat and let Neko handle it his way... However that may be.

Pulling the vodka from the liquor cabinet Neko poured himself a glass throwing it back quickly before he poured himself another. Too many to recognize? That sounded more like gloating than an actual statement. When the vocalist seemed to realize he had alcohol, Neko looked back at him for a moment with something not far from a cold stare before he turned back to his glass and took a drink. "It just so happens it is." But there was no follow up to pour Jess a glass. Instead Neko turned to Riyo as she took a seat at the table.

"I would rather not speculate on the fascinating story they will no doubt cook up for why you are here, so let's focus on something else. Tell us more about this report you are working on, Riyo." It seemed Neko liked using an escape goat in times when he was stressed.

Well... Jess really shouldn't have expected anything from that small exchange. In fact, he should've been grateful that Neko didn't bite his head off then and there. "... T-that's okay, I have my own." The man almost whimpered, reaching into the pocket of his overpriced jacket and retrieving an equally overpriced flask. By this time in his life Jess probably thought the word 'frugal' was some kind of fruit. "Never know when a party will erupt out of nowhere, after all." Taking a swig of whatever (strong) alcohol he had on him, the vocalist smiled. "You shouldn't worry too much. Publicity is a great thing. Maybe they'll give us a reality show and you can be my sidekick or something." Jess half-joked... Not opposing the idea.

For a moment, Riyo could only stare at her father. He carried booze... Everywhere?

...

Why hadn't she thought of doing that? Making a mental note to buy a flask next time she went into town, her attention turned toward Neko, almost completely missing his comment on the press.

"Oh.. Um." She hadn't intended to tell her father about it, since he would relish in the attention and most likely be dishonest. "I have to compare and contrast the two of us." She pointed from her to Jess as she spoke... A little reluctantly. "And possibly compare him to somebody else." Though she wouldn't admit she intended to use Neko.

Reaching into her own jacket, Riyo grabbed a small notepad with a pen attached, flipping it open and looking at the two expectantly.

Jess had been about to take another drink, but the fact that his daughter was doing a report on him made the vocalist freeze..

Slowly, big stars began to light up his eyes... Just as Riyo had feared. With a leap, he moved to the table and sat next to her. "Ask me anything! My favorite color is blue, I love going to the beach, favorite food is-"

"What was your father like?" Riyo interrupted, uninterested in the small-talk particulars.

Jess... Didn't have an answer for that one right away. Unless you count a blank stare and a fading smile.

"Cruel." He finally said, ready to pour the contents of the flask down his throat. "Very cruel. He'd sooner let a man starve on the street before the poor b*****d tracked mud onto his carpet and ate the bread that he paid for. No compassion whatsoever."

Neko had to suppress a growl and the urge to throw his glass right at the singer's head. "Yeah, publicity is great when you want to be in the spotlight. I unfortunately don't." Neko grumbled taking another drink of vodka before setting the glass down and focusing on Riyo as she explained her report. So she was supposed to compare the two of them? This would be interesting and possibly awkward....and why did he have a feeling he was going to be dragged into the middle of it? That look she had...it was like she was waiting for him to begin. "What's that look for?"

Neko did note the reaction Riyo got when she mentioned Jess' father. It seemed the singer had quite a bit of resentment harbored for his senior...interesting. It would explain the 'look at me' attitude if his father was somewhat neglectful.

That hadn't really told her much. Maybe she needed to ask more specific questions. "What's his name?"

"Riyo, I really don't-" Jess started pleadingly.

"Want to help me with my assignment?" Riyo butted in and finished his statement. There were a few reasons why she was being so mean. One was revenge for letting the reporter escape. The second was so he'd eventually get fed up and lean towards interfacing with Neko more. The third was... Because she wanted to know about this man. The way her father made him sound menacing made her intrigued.

Ears perking at Neko's question, Riyo looked at him like a parent looks at a child who wouldn't understand the explanation. "Nooothing." She teased with a smile, figuring he wouldn't be thinking about it for long anyways with the way he drank.

Practically dumping the unidentified liquid into his mouth, Jess shook his head and sighed. "Alistair. His name is Alistair." Jess finally answered begrudgingly.

"What's he do for a living?" As the first question was answered, it was immediately followed by a second.

"This and that."

What a non-committal answer. "That doesn't tell me anything."

"Well that's all he ever told me. That and 'something a kid with no balls couldn't do.'" Referring to him... Which made Jess drink more. He'd forgotten about that.

"Is he strong?" It was a question Riyo had already asked previously, but his answer only let her curiosity grow larger.

And the vocalist knew it was a repeated question. Making a face, he leaned in closer to her with a serious look on his face. "Alright. Remember that reporter that got away?" The 'what the hell do you think?' look Riyo shot answered his question.

"Your grandfather would've had that guy's intestines thrown about like confetti before the poor schmuck set one retreating foot in the opposite direction. All he'd do is point a finger out that window, and there would be chunks of gore decorating the fresh green grass."

Riyo's face had been about to turn skeptical... But when she looked into her father's eyes... He seemed completely serious. Like he had seen it happen. Glancing to Neko nervously, she couldn't help but wonder if such a thing was even possible.

"Any more questions?"

"Nothing, huh?" Neko asked shortly before he took another drink. He was skeptical that look was simply nothing though he would probably find out soon enough anyway. And Neko had to wonder, while he knew Riyo was curious about what little family she had, wasn't this report supposed to be about her father and not her grandfather? Though, he had to admit was it nice seeing Jess a little out of sorts about the conversation.

When Jess started to describe how violent and destructive his father could be, Neko's face looked suddenly despondent and when Riyo looked in his direction he couldn't help but look away. If someone wanted to be destructive then black magic could be very powerful, for some unimaginably so, but that wasn't what Neko wanted to teach Riyo. That hind of magic was very consuming, he was proof of that though he dared not share it. "Power comes at a price, Riyo. No matter who you are." And that was all he really had to offer at the moment.

Riyo's silence signified that she was content with her answers... For now. But the fact that Neko had neither confirmed nor denied that was possible gave her mixed emotions. But before she could respond to his words, this time she was cut off.

"You sound like you speak from experience." Jess said boldly, able to speak his mind with a little more ease thanks to the liquid courage. "So... What do you know about dark magic?" His tone wasn't accusing, though it could be taken as such considering the way the conversation was going.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 16, 2011 7:40 pm

"I could be," Neko said in an almost short tone. "I know enough to realize if you don't create a balance dark magic will create it for you. It's like making a contract with the devil, the longer you use it the deeper in it you get and the more it consumes you."

Almost immediately Neko took another drink from his glass, throwing back the contents until they were gone. This was a subject he wasn't particularly fond of, it had him on edge since it was something he usually avoided talking about. Though normally where he would keep his mouth shut, the alcohol running through his system seemed to turn that thought process off.

Jess's eyes narrowed as Neko kept talking, his ears twitching in an irritated manner as he heard the word 'devil'. Finishing off the last of his own drink, he let it fall to the table, attention now fully on Neko. "Well it's too bad some people don't have a say in the matter." He shot back. "Or do you already know that?"

Riyo's eyes darted back and fourth from her father to her friend, unsure of how badly this would end.... But she kept taking notes.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 16, 2011 8:25 pm

Neko's eyes narrowed as well, that familiar hint of storm clouds swirling in his eyes from the irritation. "I'm well aware," Neko almost spat. "I know full well that some from the instant they are born are condemned. It's not so much the power they have but what that power derives from. But despite that it can be so much worse. There comes a point when you can lose yourself to it. I never wanted anyone else to be a lost cause...." Though as soon as he said that Neko shut up. Even borderline drunk that was something he never thought he would verbally admit about himself, even if it was indirectly....and something he fully believed. He had already crossed the line of turning back.

With a slight grumble of distaste for the subject Neko turned around and grabbed the bottle of vodka from the counter and started to fill his glass back up again. Shortly after he brought the glass to his lips again but hesitated in taking a drink.

Riyo immediately stopped writing when the word 'lost cause' came out of Neko's mouth, her wide eyes looking up at him in confusion. "W-what do you mean Neko?"

Jess seemed to back off at that, slightly taken aback by the man's words. At least the feeling of guilt was being replaced with tipsy. "Hey man, I'm sorry." Well at least his humility bone wasn't broken.
