At Riley's mental words, a tiny bit of the tension flowed out of Malodore; it lightly squeezed Amrita's shoulder, hoping the vetala found it comforting. The danger of more physical violence had clearly passed, at least.

But... whatever was wrong was wrong at a deep level, something beyond Malodore's care and almost beyond its comprehension. Psychology was not its forte; the plague doctor could cut a brain with a scalpel, but digging through gray matter with other methods was beyond its capability or desires.

Yes Mistress, Yes yes yes I'm so sorry I'm so sorry Please don't abandon me Please I will be good I will behave I'll do as you say always always I'll be a good minion I'll be the best just tell me what to do and I'll do it~His thoughts were a stream as he gave a whimper in his throat, shivering at the sudden hug. He slumped forward, tear-streaked face against her chest as his own arms flung around her in a desperate hug- Dr Fell never hugged him. Patted his head maybe when he was good, but it was all either kind words or a ... a tongue lashing. He was not a very physical Master- few of his masters seemed to be, but right then the broken Igor did not want to complain. A desperate thought bubbled up through his mess of jumbled brain activity, What about M- Mr. Barth? He always needs a good whack or he doesn't get ANYTHING done! the thoughts dipped down again as though only accidentally projected to the mindflayer in his tizzy of emotion, And Mr. Calder Mr. Calder I'll destroy him all his fault all his fault spare parts, horsemeat, please don't throw me away Mistress I am not spare parts i'm not...- his grip on the mindflayer tightened.

This was.. so not part of her plan. Where had she gone so terribly off track, that she now found herself on the floor, hugging a crying patchwork, instead of in her room studying or sparring?

Where, exactly, had her path taken such a sharp turn into the bizarre and unnatural?

Okay. Christof. OKAY. She finally started to lose her patience, though her arms remained wrapped around his hulking form. I'm not abandoning you. Just.. try to calm down. This isn't getting us anywhere. Her hand rose up and brushed his hair repeatedly, trying to give him some semblence of comfort to calm him down.

When he second guessed the command she'd given him, however, she tensed slightly. No. I mean it. No more hitting.

.. Destroying Calder, though ..

Oh, it was hard to say no to that one. So very hard.

Yes Mistress, as you wish, Mistress... the boil was still sniffling as he stiffly pulled away from her, still unable to look at Amrita, face red in embarrassment.

This was not proper behavior. He lurched unsteadily to his feet, floating a bit with numbness as he instinctively scratched at his markless chest with trembling fingers. No more hitting.

It was going to make things difficult the next time something decided to crawl it's way onto the campus and attack them, that was for certain.

He shifted, hesitating in the doorway before finally glancing from Amrita to the mindflayer once more, this time his expression wrought with concern, Mistress... His hand had gone to his chest again, If... if there is no more contract... what about.. Miss Amrita's favor?

Riley looked down at her hand for a moment, before standing up and swiveling around in one fluid, vaguely imposing movement to look directly at him.

I still plan on following through with my side of the bargain. As for you, though..

She was going to regret this heavily, one day. She was sure of it.

If you want to return the contract to it's original form, then.. Her hand lifted and she curled one finger towards herself in a beckoning gesture. It is your choice, Christof.

Her voice turned low, and menacing. But I will not tolerate insubordination a second time, Christof. Never, in my life, have I given a second chance. If you prove that I have made a mistake in breaking this record..

Her hand curled into a fist, and her claws dug into her own skin, drawing blood.

The hunchback straightened considerably- at least as much as he was capable, his eyes locked on Riley's face, brows furrowed anxiously. He.. he didn't deserve to wear her mark. She didn't give second chances and so he was incredibly lucky to be offered what was clearly not a second chance... more than likely a trial if he understood demons properly. His eyes flickered back to Amrita and down again as he thought as quickly as he could. They could do it without him. They could very well just help her out and cut him out. Who needed the faulty Igor messing things up? It didn't matter if he was present to help or not- they were the brains behind it all, ultimately. At least the actual DOING of the thing...

But he shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. He wanted to prove himself to her, and now was his last desperate opportunity. Maybe she would mark him and still cut him out but... there was some sense of security he felt from the demonic contracts. It meant business. It meant what he was doing meant something. Swallowing, brows furrowed as he tried to arrange his thoughts in a coherent order, If you will have me, I will not disappoint you ever again, Mistress. It was practically a whisper, but it was bristling with determination all the same. He wouldn't because she would rend him limb from limb if he did but...

But somehow that still seemed better than going back... home.

At least there was the off chance she might put him back together again if it ever came to that.

It was the challenge he needed to be a good Igor. Barth had softened him.

Christof's response was a challenge in and of itself. While his promise was obviously full of good intent, it was something that no true, intelligent person should ever promise another person.

Failure was a way of life.

Riley's eyes narrowed as she contemplated, and then accepted his answer. Her fist relaxed, unknowingly dripping a few drops of blood down her claws to the floor. She brought her hand to his chest, and with a slow, lingering brush, her mark burned onto his skin once more. The red glow faded, but remained that color- as her blood had smeared against his skin. Her hand dropped to her side after remarking him silently, and only once she was done did she speak.

We shall see.

Suddenly, with a sharp movement, her hand rose back up to the mark, and her claws pierced the skin. The next words were heard only by Christof, and they were a vicious hiss.

Now, you will find something to give Amrita as a grand conciliatory gift, right now. She must feel like a queen, or our entire project will be ruined. Her hand slid away, leaving little crescents where her nails had dug into his skin.

Go.

He jumped, wincing back in surprise more than pain at the sudden nails in his chest, but once he had caught his breath he gripped the cuts, inhaling the sweet sensation of the cleansing fire of the mark. Yes Mistress, He gave her a quick, pained bow, face pale but.... more happy than any of them had seen it since thoughts of Morrigan and the Dance as he gave an even quicker bow to the other two, Please... please tell them that most of the parts are ready if... if Maser Malodore wishes to look them over or I can drop them off I will go immediately- with that fleeting thought he lurched down the hallway, not even stopping to tend to his wounds nor put on boots as he bolted from them towards the door.

He knew just the thing and he was going to get it even if he had to build it himself.

The Plague Doctor's light squeeze to her shoulder was pretty comforting; and like before it stopped her from just up and leaving...no matter how much she wanted to just bolt. Once Christof went back to Riley, the little Vetala turned to look up at Malodore again; she wasn't sure if she should leave, or if she should listen in or pay attention to what was being said. She had never done this before, she'd never been near the source of this kind of conflict. She didn't even want to stay at all.

So, she stared at Malodore, hoping that it could give her some answers; sadly, she was too lost, baffled and frightened to think to ask the questions. It was apparently just a staring game, when everything boiled right down.

It wasn't until she remembered the ice pack did she stop her staring, moving to take it from her lap to press it back against her face. Then, of course, the questions returned.

"S-should I go...?" She whispered to Malodore, scootching a little closer to the Doctor, whom she felt was safe...even despite the suggesting a fire in Christmastown.

"For now..." It glanced over at Riley; the plague doctor had heard her half of the conversation she and Christof had just had, so it had some vague idea of the situation... but certainly not a clear view of everything that had occurred. "I do not believe it necessary to stay if you do not wish to. I would like to monitor your condition for a bit longer, to ensure that no other damage was done, but that need not be done in a hallway. Indeed, a comfortable location would be better. Your room, perhaps, or my own if you would prefer?"

To RIley alone, it directed a single thought - Spiega tutto per me, più tardi?

Turning to Amrita and Malodore, she bent down and rested one hand against the shoulder of each. Her first thought was a private Naturalmente directed at Malodore's question, before she turned her attentions to Amrita fully. Yes, I think it's time to go. Malodore will take good care of you, I promise. And I will come and make sure you're all right, some time soon. If you are comfortable with a visit. I'm sorry you had to have such an uncomfortable experience, Amrita. I wish I had been here to keep it from happening.. but alas, I had no idea he had gotten this out of hand.

Amrita just really wanted to go back to her room and stare at the ceiling. That's all she really wanted to do. She came to visit Christof on a happy note and ended being stung worse than she had ever felt before; though he did kind of apologize, the hurt was still there. But Malodore wanted to watch her a little more, and there was no telling how the Doctor or DC would react to one another so, with a slight sigh, she responded.

"Y-yours is fine." The ice pack was taken off just long enough for her to rub her eye, and she was about to crawl to her feet when Riley's voice echoed in her dull mind.

"I don't mind." The little Undead assured the Mindflayer, trying a little smile. "Thank you, uhm, both, for coming to help." She really did appreciate the gesture they had both made; they were both wonderful scarelings! Still, she couldn't bring herself to look at Christof's fleeing form, making a definite point to avoid the entire ordeal while she got to her feet, looking to Malodore to lead that way.

"Va bene," Malodore murmured, glancing back at Riley. "Perhaps some time with Luce will help. She is a great healer herself, you know," it added, directing that comment at Amrita. There were few ills puppy time couldn't dim at least a little, or so Malodore had learned since obtaining Luce for itself. A slightly unorthodox prescription, but there it was.
