She put the pot of water on the stove and set the heat, then pulled out a smaller sauce pan and set that on another section of the stove but didn't turn it on yet. She paused when she saw the different types of pasta, frowning slightly. Variety would be good, and would make for an interesting meal, but they likely had different cooking times... No matter, that wasn't hard to do. Just add the penne and gemelli first, then wait a few minutes before adding the spaghetti since it was thinner than the other two.

"Hm?" Oh, anything else. "Uhh.. I don't think so. We just need to wait til the water boils, and then add the pasta and start heating up the sauce. There's more waiting than cooking for us to do with pasta," she explained with a shrug. But that made it simple, which was always good. She was better at baking anyway.

"I see," he said, mildly intrigued by the whole process. He leaned against the counter and watched the pot for signs of boiling, obviously having never heard the saying that related to such an activity.

With a nod she looked back to the pot, figuring it would be a few minutes. They'd probably hear it start to bubble anyway, so she turned and leaned against the counter. ...crap, now they needed something to talk about. Um, uhh...

Oh!

"Hey Luke," she said, frowning thoughtfully, "I'm sorry to keep asking you questions about Lucas," because that was all she seemed to do, "but he said he was with a woman after Liselle that he shouldn't have. He also mentioned that he got drunk when it happened. What exactly did happen?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 30, 2011 5:53 pm

He couldn't really blame her for asking questions about Lucas, since they were the same person, in essence, and shared the vast majority of their experience. This particular question, however, brought a scowl to his face. The memory, though one of despair to Lucas, brought Luke nothing but indignation.

"He went to a bar, met a woman, let himself get wrapped all around her manipulative little fingers..." He paused, releasing his building anger in a sigh. "I assume you want the long version?" He needed to be sure of this before he launched into a rant.

Oh, man - yeah, this would be a long story. Oh well, they had time and she didn't mind. She had asked, after all, so she simply nodded. "Sounds like someone I'd like to punch in the face already," she commented. "But yes, the long version would be preferable, if that's alright."

"Hm. Okay." He faced forward and folded his arms across his chest. "He had a bit of a drinking problem after Liselle--" Ah, there was that trigger again. He beat back the nearly overwhelming wave of remorse and continued, "His tolerance against alcohol has always made it difficult for him to actually get drunk, but he managed it that evening. This woman, Jessica," his tone became almost sneering as he mentioned her name, "took notice of him. They talked a while, danced a bit, and at the end of the evening, Lucas volunteered to escort her home, the kind fool that he is. She convinced him to stay, and convinced him to stay with her." He shifted slightly, crossing his legs at the ankles.

"In the morning, Jessica roped him in with all sorts of sappy little phrases, and in his desperation to move past Li--" Ah, crap, not again. "Well, he decided to give her a chance. Now, pop quiz." He turned a glance to Claire. "What kind of girlfriend do you think Jessica was?"

Ah, crap, it was because of Liselle. And here she thought this would be a safe topic. Crap. But, she could see Lucas offering such a thing, and then agreeing to stay - he was too chivalrous for his own good sometimes, it seemed. And, she could guess, what typically happens when two drunk people get together probably happened then too. Aw, man.. "Well," she started with a shrug, frowning at the behavior of both, "you already said she was manipulative - it's not hard to see that if she was trying to reel him in in the morning. So, I'm going to guess a lying, deceitful leech." Sort of like her ex, and the situations were almost identical. Ugh, that was something she didn't want to think about...

"Full credit," he said with a slight sigh. "Yes. She decided Lucas's wallet was the perfect way to try out all the fancy cuisine and get all the expensive clothes and accessories she wanted. Not to mention that she convinced him to stay the night in her apartment more evenings than not. But Lucas didn't notice. He stayed with her no matter how his friends tried to convince him to leave. Jessica told him she loved him, and that was all he needed to believe it. Things grew a bit hectic at the base, though, and he was unable to see her or even respond to her messages for around a month. Naturally, Jessica came to the conclusion that her well had run dry." Or that was the conclusion that Elisa had offered, and it seemed to fit. "The next time he contacted her, she requested to see him in person, and so they arranged to meet. Pop quiz number two: What do you think Jessica told Lucas?"

"Ugh," she said with a distinct scowl on her face. "I don't like being right. She sounds disgusting." While he talked, she checked the pot - it was just beginning to boil, so she added a bit of salt and tossed in the penne and gemelli, then poured the jar of sauce into the saucepan and turned on the heat. Not too much, of course, it was already fully cooked after all, they just needed it nice and warm.

"Either her well had run dry or she'd found another well in the meantime," she suggested with another scowl. Some women... Ugh. But his question made her pause, and her eyes narrowed as she found a large plastic pasta spoon to stir with. "I don't have any idea what she told him, but I'm going to guess that it wasn't anything even remotely good."

He gave a light snort. "Points for effort, at least. She told him she was pregnant. Left the poor fool reeling. It wasn't that he didn't want a family, but he certainly didn't want to involve Jessica with Team Galactic, and he couldn't leave Galactic for her either. They talked over the phone a few times and came to the agreement that Lucas would send her pieces of his paycheck. After that, she refused to meet with him anymore, stopped answering his calls, didn't return his messages... But he made good on his promise nonetheless." The honest idiot that he was. Luke sighed. "He ran into her a few months later. Found out it had all been a lie. And that was the end of Lucas's relationship with trust."

The scowl was still present on her face as she took pleasure in breaking a thick handful of spaghetti in half and dumping it in the pot, and violently stirred the hapless noodles. From his phrasing it was obvious from the start something was fishy with her suddenly telling him she was pregnant, and then all the red flags -- "He wasn't suspicious? When she stopped seeing him and talking to him and, and.. everything? Not even a little suspicious?" She was exasperated. How could he have just believed her, just like that? She would have demanded a pregnancy test then and there. Or half a dozen. But in her case it would be different, obviously. ...not that she wouldn't take half a dozen. Better safe than sorry. "Ugh, that's horrible... I definitely wouldn't mind breaking her face but I doubt I'll ever have the pleasure of meeting her," she said, putting a dripping emphasis on the 'pleasure' - it would be a pleasure. To break her nose anyway. "Wait.. what do you mean with trust? Like.. he doesn't trust anyone anymore?"

"He loved her," he said with a shrug. "Besides, he felt guilty for leaving her alone. He was sure she was mad at him, and so he didn't take it as anything suspicious when she was suddenly gone." He smirked slightly. "Lucas almost did himself. Came terribly close, but just couldn't manage it." Luke would have been just as pleased to have the opportunity, but it wasn't his duty to assault women that showed no inclination to physically harm his other half. That right belonged to Lucas alone. He nodded at her conclusion, "Yes, that's right. Friendly, yes. Trusting, no. I'm... not sure he'll be able to recover from that." All because of Liselle, damn it.

After taking her anger out on the poor blameless noodles, she seemed to calm considerably. Fumbling through several drawers she managed to find a ladle and used it to stir the sauce in the pan, adjusting the heat a bit with a sigh. "I bet he did, and she deserved it. She likely deserved to be hit a lot."

She frowned thoughtfully, then shook her head slightly and stirred the pasta again. "No.. I think he could. It will just take time, and.. he'll have to want to. If he doesn't want to get over it, then that's it. He never will. But if he wants to, then he could, and it will just take time." And to steer far away from women like that. Ugh.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 30, 2011 8:03 pm

"Yes. Yes she did." He narrowed his eyes in mild disgust. She was an altogether unsavory woman, and he likely wouldn't have settled with a set of knuckles to the face if he ever had the chance that to have words with her.

He looked to Claire with an expression between exasperation and hope. "I'm not sure if he does want to. And I'm not sure how to change it if he doesn't." This was one of Luke's greatest concerns, and the fact that he would no longer be able to oversee Lucas's progress in the matter sent a small shudder down his spine.

She simply nodded, choosing to drop the first subject. Unpleasant women need not be discussed, especially when both of them would much prefer to sock her in the face. However, she couldn't help but notice his face, and she frowned thoughtfully. "Maybe he will want to eventually. Like I said, it takes time. Maybe he'll want to at some point. Maybe.. maybe I could help, but I don't know..." How? How could she possibly make him want to trust people? He seemed perfectly content to just stay comfortably apart from everyone. Maybe he would come around eventually... Hopefully.
