"Oh, no, they're very common," she said with a nod, but metal plates required a bit more thinking. "I don't think I've ever used metal plates before. Metal bowls yes, but plates? Not that I can recall.." Maybe because they're too loud compared to ceramic or plastic plates? And easier to scratch, perhaps... Oh well, it wasn't an important point anyway.
The aroma stopped Claire at the same time it stopped Lucas, and the girl's mouth had already begun to water at the smell of delicious food. Well, it smelled delicious anyway, and with how hungry she was, it had to be delicious. Even if it wasn't. "There!" She suddenly exclaimed, pointing to what could only be a restaurant. It had one of those folded wooden menu boards out front, so it had to be a restaurant, right? "Well, I think that's it.." She wasn't really sure, though, but.. no harm in finding out, right? She didn't seem to think so, and had already started walking towards the building.

"If they've got food, I don't care if the smell is coming from there or not," Lucas said with a slight shaking of his head. He started forward shortly after Claire, his pace a little quicker to close the small distance that had formed.
The building's interior would prove it to be every bit the restaurant it appeared, though it was perhaps more in the direction of a cafe than in that of a restaurant proper. A waiter greeted Lucas and Claire and gestured to an unused table, bringing menus for the pair to peruse. The menu featured such items as egg and bacon sandwiches, pancakes, hash browns, omelets, and other breakfast-centric foods.
"Ahh, jeez..." Lucas muttered. "I really just wanna kind of order everything." How was he supposed to make a choice if he was so hungry and everything sounded so amazing?

Claire heartily agreed - it didn't matter if it was a restaurant or not, it had food and she was so there. Okay, so it was a cafe, not a restaurant. Either way, it still had food.
She followed Lucas to the booth and slid into the seat across from him before quickly unfolding the menu. Oh, Arceus, it all looked so freaking good... Her stomach grumbled again as she laid the menu flat on the table so she could remove her gloves and shove them unceremoniously back into her pockets, and loosen her coat a bit. At least it was warm in there, too. "I do too, but I know I'd only get through half of it.." And then feel incredibly fat - bad idea. Very bad idea. "Mm.. I definitely want eggs.." But scrambled eggs or an omelet? Hmmm...

It didn't take Lucas long to make his choice. Breakfast platter, all the way. Pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs... Perfection. He noticed Claire removing her gloves and did the same for his jacket, discarding it in the space beside him. Ahh, food...
It would be mere moments before a waitress showed up to take their requests for beverages. "Ahh, uh, coffee," Lucas said, so caught up in the thought of food that he had completely forgotten about drinks. He turned his attention to Claire, "You know what you want? We could go ahead and order now."

It wasn't quite as warm as she would like - or at least, she wasn't as warm as she'd like to be - so she remained snuggled in her coat for the time being. And all the food on the menu sounded so delicious, so amazing, so --
"Hm?" Oh, the waitress. "Coffee too, please," she said, her gaze still drifting over the menu. It all looked so wonderful.. Ah - what? "Okay," she agreed. Order now? Apparently Lucas already decided - he wouldn't want to order yet if he hadn't, obviously - and she was too hungry to take too long to decide. "I'll take a vegetable omelet with a side of bacon and hash browns." Hopefully Lucas didn't mind if she ordered first - why would he? - but from his wording he may or may not have been suggesting it anyway. And she knew he was just as hungry as she was. Or thought so, at any rate. Mmm, food..

"Breakfast platter for me, please," he said when the waitress nodded and turned to him. She collected the menus and departed with the promise that their drinks would be ready shortly. Lucas tapped a foot against the floor impatiently. "Ah man, I've never been this excited about something in my life," he said. A few other incidents of excitement came to mind almost immediately, and he rubbed at the back of his neck and corrected himself, "Well, never been this excited about food."
The waitress would return within a few moments to deliver a pair of coffees before returning to the kitchen, hopefully to retrieve their food. Was it ready already? No way, no pancake cooked that quickly. Trivial things like basic fact couldn't dampen his hopes, though.

She couldn't help but chuckle at his enthusiasm and excitement for their food to come. Then again, she could barely stand to wait for it, either, her stomach grumbling anxiously. "I don't think I've been this excited for food before, either." As for being really excited about anything else... nah, nothing immediately came to mind, because the only thing on her mind at the moment was food.
When the waitress set down their coffees, she eagerly reached for hers and added sugar and cream to lighten it. Claire definitely did not drink black coffee. She leaned back against the booth and took a slow sip from her cup, enjoying the flavor, and watched Lucas as a smirk slowly spread across her face. "You look rather impatient - you're not hungry, are you Lucas?" Arceus, of course he was, and of course she was, but all the same it was fun to tease back and forth. It was something she hadn't gotten to do with someone in what felt like forever.

He doctored his own coffee a bit, stirring in a couple of the cream packets left at the table, and lifted the cup to his lips. The flavor was amazing, much better than the metal he had been very nearly seriously been considering eating.
"All of existence itself has never known a single being to be as hungry as I am at this moment," he replied in all sincerity. The scents alone were taunting, never mind the handful of patrons dappling the cafe who had already been served their orders. Fortunately things like eggs and potatoes were quick to cook, and it was not a terribly long wait before the waitress returned to deliver the requested dishes

She took another slow sip from her mug, savoring it for a few seconds before swallowing in the hopes that would help alleviate some of the hunger pangs, but it didn't do anything. His statement made her chuckle. "Hey, I'm starving too!" As if to affirm this statement, her stomach complained rather loudly. Again.
Thankfully, finally their food arrived (it felt like years) and Claire eagerly pulled her plate close to her. Arceus, it smelled absolutely, positively amazing... She couldn't wait any longer, and immediately dug in. She didn't wolf it down no matter how much she would've loved to, not wanting to seem like a voracious and messy eater, though she did take bigger bites than she probably would have if she wasn't so incredibly hungry, but Lucas was just as hungry if not moreso, so it didn't really matter too much. She was too hungry to care too much anyway. Foooodd....

Pancakes, how long had it been since he had had pancakes? Regardless, he restrained himself until after Claire had begun, at which point he positively tore into the things. Not so much as to be unsightly company, to the best of his ability, but it was all so absolutely delicious it was hard to remember that such a thing as dining etiquette existed. He managed to keep a reasonable pace by punctuating the meal with sips of coffee, pausing momentarily as he finished with the pancakes and proceeded on to the bacon, "Have to say, I regret nothing in passing up that steel rail."

Claire managed to devour half of her delicious omelet before taking a small break, sipping at her coffee again with a pleased sigh. It had been ages since she'd had a really good omelet, and this had to be one of the best. Whether that was because it was simply delicious, or because she was absolutely starving was anybody's guess.
She put her mug down and picked up a piece of bacon with a chuckle. "I've never been that big a fan of rails myself. Too painful if you fall on them, and they'd probably hurt to try to eat, too," she said before breaking the bacon in half. Nice and crispy, perfect. It took not even a minute to finish off her bacon and she moved back to her omelet. Mmm, food..

The Bacon Kingdom fell before Lucas's advance, due in part to his overwhelming force of hunger (which was beginning to subside, now that his stomach was full of pancake) and in part to the fact that bacon was practically his favorite food ever, tied with manicotti for supremacy. He sampled the eggs and chose to lightly salt them before continuing. Food was a glorious, glorious thing. "Yeah, probably best that we held out for real breakfast," he agreed with a nod. A brief wave of nostalgia struck him as he raised the coffee cup, peering momentarily into the dark liquid. It really had been a long time since he'd visited a restaurant with any kind of company... He abandoned the thought with a slightly more jaded smile than the one he usually sported, returning his attention to breakfast.

"Probably? I'd say it's definitely better," she said with a chuckle before popping the last chunk of her omelet into her mouth, then leaned back to savor it. She'd begun slowing down too, mostly because her stomach was now full of egg, bits of vegetables and bacon, and put her fork down with a contented sigh. Her gaze shifted to her company as she picked up her coffee mug once more, and peered curiously over the edge of it at him as he seemed to pause before drinking. It seemed something had crept into his head to bother him, maybe - he looked.. not quite as happy and content as he had been a moment ago. Her mug lowered as she scanned the table, her thoughts racing a bit as she tried to come up with something...
A spoon was suddenly placed on Lucas's side of the table near his plate, and Claire leaned her chin on her hand, elbow resting on the table in proper unladylike fashion. "Spoon for your thoughts?" She offered, then after a pause she shrugged slightly and added, "I don't have a penny."

All mental processes came to a stop as a rogue spoon crept into his range of vision. What in the-- His eyes turned back to Claire, his expression completely baffled. A stifled chuckle escaped him at her explanation, growing to an uncontainable peal of laughter. "What the hell?" he said, still grinning as he lifted the spoon, unable to effectively process any other thoughts besides how amazingly ridiculous this was.

"What? I told you I didn't have a penny!" Her tone was mocking exasperation, a wide grin spread across her face as she chuckled as well. Picking up her fork again she tapped the bottom of it against the table, pulling her plate of hash browns over to work on those next. "A spoon is a perfectly acceptable substitute if you don't have a penny."
Her chuckling subsided but the grin remained on her face as she set to work on her potatoes, noticeably slower than she had been with her omelet and bacon since her stomach was more full than it had been. "Penny for your thoughts, but I don't have one. Or fine, you can call that a penny, but that's the most ridiculous looking penny I've ever seen."
