Riley watched Calder carefully as he began to write. For such a spirited fellow, he certainly did seem to always find the wrong outlet to release his rage. After all, it was just a bad choice in all respects to make Riley one's enemy. What could he have possibly been thinking?

She snagged the paper between two clawed fingers and then flipped it over to read the notes. She rose a single brow, obviously surprised that he'd gone so far. She would have been flattered - if she was not completely aware that every word was a lie.

She had nothing to say to him further - he had given her what she wanted, and now she would be sure to give him what he wanted. The teacher would hear nothing of his overactive tantrum, if he ever asked. She, in turn, did not destroy his paper further. She felt this was sufficient payment for a job well done.

"I pretty much passed out soon after waking in the infirmity... Then again, it wasn't the best place for introductions." She smiled sheepishly, remembering how she had woke up screaming for Amrita, "Grazie? Ah, you're welcome!" She hadn't noticed it before, but now that she was actually talking to it directly, it does have an interesting accent.

"Sure!" Lizzy nodded, sliding her essay across the table towards Malodore before taking its essay, "Its my first time assessing someone else's essay as well. Let's see..." She turned towards the piece of paper in her hands, "Thoughts on The Adventures of Sherlock Bones..."

That was the only part that she read out loud. Following that, her eyes started to scan the essay that she held in her hand, mentally reading through it. She finished rather quickly and paused, not quite sure how to evaluate it; how do you evaluate such a personal essay anyway? She hesitated before looking up at her partner with a small smile, knowing that all things should start with a positive, "I wasn't surprised at your choice of book - reading The Adventures of Sherlock Bones does make you think!"

Right, good start... Probably.

"It is true that most classics tend to feature demons and monsters - reapers even - but undeads tend to get pushed into the background, as secondary characters. I'll have to agree that it is refreshing to read about a pair of undead who use logical thinking to solve crimes. This is especially true when most Halloween denizens connect 'solving crimes' to 'violence'... I mean, the Bogeyman pride themselves more on brawn than on brains, right?" She was sure they have both, but when it comes to which is the better known trait of Bogeyman, it is brawn over brains.

"I would like to hear more about the book though," She nodded, "I had read a book from this series before, but assuming I didn't, I wouldn't know how they used the skills you mentioned in the essay. Instead of summarizing 'The Hounds of the Baskervilles' into 2 sentences, provide an example on a scenario in the book where they had to apply their skills in order to take a step forward towards solving the crime. This would make it clearer for the person reading your essay to relate to it... Does that make sense?"

She really didn't know what else to say; while Malodore did not go deep into the book, he did go deep into how it was able to relate to the story - a requirement of the assignment.

"I'm glad you were inspired by this book, but unless it is really personal, I would like to know more about how these books brought you to this school! Or you could always make a note to say 'While I cannot disclose the details, if it had not been for these stories, I might not be here at Amityville today' to stop questions like 'why' or 'how..." Her smile grew a little as she looked up from the paper, "I like how you ended the essay with a hope for the future, and I wish you luck in becoming more like the heroes in this book! Overall, a good essay but lacking in some details. I'll give it a B."

She had written notes in pencil at the bottom of the essay, not wishing to spoil the essay itself. When she was done speaking, Lizzy proceeded to write a 'B' within a circle just below the notes, glad that her part of the in-class assignment was done.

The pair of them were done with their forced lesson, and was now trying to recover from the hardship of dealing with Riley. There was a deep sinking dread that he would get his paper back and the professor would agree with everything, and that he would be further impressed by her observations to his paper. He worked hard on it. He always worked on hard on Alabsater's assignments more than any other, and now it was covered in red. Horrible, bleeding red like his heart had been torn open and just bleed out on the paper. At least that was how it felt like.

His ears slowly sank down, and he tapped his pen against his desk. A rapid taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap as he thought deeply on how this would affect his grade and the Lit. professor's view of him. He'd think he was stupid and not worth his time if he couldn't take his class and the assignments seriously.

His eyes kept on Alabaster as he moved about, the way his tail picked up and swayed, the slow movement of his hips, and the tight vest across his broad chest. Well, class wasn't all that bad. He could find ways to make it up to his darling. Maybe make him something to eat and leave it on his desk. A secret lunch prepared just for him with a little note, unaddressed, saying 'sorry'. He was sure Alabaster would know it was from. He left him plenty of anonymous notes before. Love letters in pink that said 'I love watching you.' and 'We should be together forever.'.He also wrote 'Your Mine Forever.' on a note and tapped it to his desk once. He was getting good at leaving notes.

Malodore listened thoughtfully as Lizzy spoke, then nodded. "Si - my family history is a bit... a bit personal. But you are quite right, I ought not allude to things and then not explain them. Thank you, signora - that was a thoughtful analysis." It nodded cordially to her, then took her paper and began to read it.

((I'll write a new post, Dragain - I'm tired right now so I don't trust myself to do a good job, but Malodore's analysis will come soon <33))

Riley was all too pleased to be done with Calder. She would have ignored him completely, except for the fact that he was still sitting right in front of her. Her idle sense of curiosity couldn't help but notice that Calder had all but forgotten she existed in favor of something else - what WAS he staring at? His eyes were captivated, following something like-

...

She followed his gaze, and watched carefully as Calder studied every one of the Professor's movements. Her eyes flitted from one, to the other, before it all clicked together.

And she couldn't help but chuckle.

She hadn't meant for the sound to be public, but oh, it was. Her eyes slitted smugly as she realized exactly why Calder had done a 360 on his evil barrage of her paper.

How absolutely delicious.

It had been his purpose to ignore her, but her chuckle had made his already flattened ears twitch, pivoting to hear the noise that was not a noise – his ears were often tricked into thinking they were hearing actually sound than just thought – and his eyes slowly narrowed but didn't look at her. He continued his pen tapping as if impatient and wanting class to be over.

"Enjoying yourself?" He said in a flat tone, thinking that her laughing was only because she in some sense won and got a good grade by manipulating him. He wasn't happy about it, and he didn't like hearing her laugh over it either. Her voice, her face, her very presence bothered him.

Partners? She could handle that. Holly was about to get up but she noticed much of the class getting up. The ghoul that was her partner came closer. She seemed familiar but where did they met before? Oh, that odd graveyard thing with the moving metal boxes. It was her that she was going to talk to but they were all disappearing at that point. She looked at Sin Err and shook her hand. "Nice to meet you. Sure, not sure how I did at all. First time writing a paper." Ever.

Holly shook her head back and forth. "Not a one." She had never the opportunity to read before. Being a fox in a past life would do that too you. "You see I have never had time to, uh, read. I only just turned to a ghost not very long ago." She shrugged and hoped to have made a well enough attempt at her paper.

It was Alessa's voice that brought him back to reality. Gabrian let out a sigh after rubbing his eyes one last time and turned to look at the nagual, "Why yes... I believe it is," a pause as he turned and squinted at the door, "Though I would not put it past myself to have gone into the wrong classroom right now..." after stretching slightly, he turned his attention to the classroom, giving it an inspection. This classroom was rather normal in comparison to quite a few others he'd seen before.

When Ren walked in, he offered the other boil a half-hearted glare. He was too sleepy to even make it look authentic though, and he dropped the act almost as soon as he'd begun it. He did lean forward to catch a glimpse at the... was that his essay? "Ren... your essay looks like you crumbled it up, tossed it away and decided that, on second though, it was indeed good enough. What did you do with it?"

He offered Livi a genuine smile, "I take it you like books then?" it was right around then that their Professor spoke, and Gabrian turned to face the were unicorn. As he wrote the names on the board, he arched a brow up and smirked to himself; well, on one had, he'd felt felt comfortable enough around Livi to know he was a perfect partner. On the other... well, the other demon was going to rip his review to shreds. Mffrrrtt... that'll teach him to stay up late essay-writing. In fact, the first thing he was going to do after class was go buy himself a damned journal to keep track of things in.

After they were dismissed in order to start working, he turned back to Livi, "Well, let's just say that I feel I didn't do my best with this particularly essay and I feel guilty over it. To boot, I'm suffering over a distinct lack of sleep, seeing as how I used that time to write the essay which I THOUGHT I'd finished earlier but.. didn't," a pause, "I need to go buy a journal after class," a sigh as he offered the avarice demon his paper, "Feel free to start this off, Livi?"

Riley's eyes slit, curving in devious mirth. Not as much as you seem to be, while staring longingly at Professor Alabaster. Oh, it wasn't hard to put two and two together, and she'd done so. She fell silent, leaning back on her chair slowly. Her hands folded in front of her, and she looked quite smug. This could spell trouble..

His eyes flicked back to attention and he stared at her, eyes widening for a second before he narrowed them. I don't know what you're even talking about. I'm just – checking to see if I'm getting in trouble. Of course now he was greatly aware he had been staring in front of the person he should have been guarding his actions around, and he leaned back, pretending to…find his pen very fascinating. He started to tap it again, this time more quickly. He wasn't going to look at her as he felt her gaze drill into him, and his heart was beating much faster. He decided to look down at the red spot that was left by all the pen marking that was now on the desk, and he continued to tap his pen.

Now he really wanted to be out of class. He stared at the clocked and frowned, before checking his phone.

After it finished reading Lizzy's paper, Malodore glanced back up at her with a nod. "I am afraid literary analysis is not my forte, but I will do my best. Ah... I have not read this book, but I got an excellent sense of it from your writing; I see now where my own work fell flat in that respect..." Ugh. This was harder than it thought! It was used to diagnosing patients, not homework. "I would almost like to see more on your thoughts on these prejudices, and how they affect you... though of course that might be more personal than you'd wish to say, just as in my own homework... but your discourse and use of language is excellent."

It stared at the paper a moment longer, hoping for some obvious flaw to leap out at it (if only to give it more to say) but nothing happened. "Va bene. In my estimation, you have done an excellent job."

Aksaja looked around for a few minutes, frowning, as he didn't even know this Julian boil . . . at all. Finally, he resorted to walking around asking people their names until there was only one person left that he hadn't asked. "You Julian?" he grumbled. "Give me that," the lightning dragon muttered then, snatching at the other's paper.

He wasn't happy about being in this stupid class in the first place, and now he had to read someone else's essay. And supposedly tell them how to make it better? Tch.

"Ah, no- Frankly speaking, after I read your work, I realized that I didn't relate my own life to the book enough. The assignment requirement was for us to write how our own life ran parallel to the story, after all. In that area, its clear that you did better," She nodded slowly, eying her essay; she had gotten too absorbed with the book! Blushing slightly at its compliment, she smiled, "Thank you... And that was a fair literacy analysis, despite it being your first!"

She held out its paper, notes and grade written at the bottom, towards it; the paper will probably go back to the Professor soon, but it seems like not everyone was ready...

As soon as Tsetsiliya got the proper chance to move seats among the milling students, she squinted through the crowd. She recognized a number of faces from the spin the bottle game (some of which making her promptly flush), and the name she was paired with sounded terribly familiar as well. But as the pairs were moving off, she noticed a particularly pink rabbit ghoul who looked to be waiting for her partner - somebody else she had seen at the game. The name did sound familiar, and this girl looked awfully familiar and unpartnered, so it wouldn't hurt to ask. The poludnica gently nudged her way through the others, mumbling pardons as she went.

"I-I am thinking we are partners?" When she reached the desk next door, Tsetsiliya gave Alessa a small smile and gripped her paper in her hand. "I am knowing you from the game t-the other day, but I do not think we have given names?" Dropping into the seat, she smoothed her paper out onto the desk and awaited Alessa's response with the same nervous smile.

"Oh, well for your first paper it's not too bad. It's just a tad vague in the summary area. Don't worry though writing and reading is just like everything else, you get better with practice. So you enjoyed the book hmm? Is there anything else your interested in reading?" She glanced over Holly's paper again making little notes such as 'Include more detail here -->' or '<---Explain more about character motivations and your own'. Then she wrote B by Sin Err at the top and circled it her pink pen rather distinctive.

She might have given Holly a lower grade but this was the first book she had ever read and a pretty good paper considering she had never written one. It didn't seem fair to grade her harshly and if the professor thought she was too gentle she would just have to explain. Personally for her first ever paper it was almost A material.
