"I was a little busy with those false acusations and the trial, then I had to ask a few family friends for help with recovering our family's importing business." Itachi sniffed, leaning away from Sasuke. "To think my brother would think of such horrible things to say about me, and nothing in my defense. You're ungrateful."

Naruto winced and stepped toward his partner, reaching out to touch his shoulder. "Sasuke..."
"At thirteen, I was most unsuited to take care of you. Even if I managed to support myself, and you, they wouldn't have let me keep you. They thought I'd try to kill you." Itachi shifted uncomfortably in his chair. "Especially after falsly accusing me."

"Falsely accusing you." Sasuke sneered. "You killed them, and we both know it. You just cared more about rising in rank than you did about making sure that your little brother was taken care of."

Naurto frowned and shook Sasuke's shoulder. This wasn't the time to settle personal issues. "Sasuke."
Ignoring Naruto, Itachi leaned over the table, taking his lighter back. "I have no idea what you're talking about. Is this why you had me come down here? To drudge up more of your so called tragic past and paint me the monster? I'm more than certain, otouto, that the case was closed many years ago.

Sasuke shoved Naruto's hand off of his shoulder and looked away. He really doesn't care. At all. Why did I think maybe he would? "...You're right. That's not why you're here." Sasuke stood, and looked at Naruto. "Have him escorted to a cell. I don't want to look at him anymore."

Itachi pulled down the collar of his shirt, finger bringing out the black and silver necklace hidden there. It was the only item in his past that he kept, the only thing that was important to him. "You weren't completely forgotten." Even if the gesture meant nothing to Sasuke, it was worth the effort. Though he did not quite know why he felt the need to comfort his brother.

Sasuke froze for a moment, lean body visibly stiffening as his eyes landed on the necklace. The necklace he had made for Itachi years ago, and given to him as a birthday present. At the time, his stoic brother hadn't seemed impressed, but still, he had worn the piece of jewelry. Sasuke had assumed that after leaving, Itachi would have gotten rid of it, no longer needing to play the role of the caring brother.
Slowly turning his eyes away, Sasuke opened the door, not wanting his brother to know how much he had affected him.

Itachi stood, holding out his hands to Naruto. Fine, so Sasuke only barely cared about the gesture. That was okay, he didn't need his brother's help to get out of his. "Going to cuff me?"
"Ooooh yeah."

[o.o *nods* Maybe so. There are kind of two ways we could take this, if you don't already have an idea. The first way, the evidence DOES make it look like Itachi committed the crime, and Sasuke visits him a lot in prison while the investigation continues, and maybe between trial dates. Eventually, after them talking a lot and heart bonding, Sasuke believes that Itachi didn't do it and tries to catch the real killer so that Itachi is freed.
The second way, the evidence doesn't turn up, and Itachi is released after 24-hours. But Sasuke visited him a few more times while he was in the cell, and after Itachi is out of prison, he shows up at Sasuke's apartment one night, and we take it from there.]

I figured that maybe if they sort of... eventually *cough* were friendly toward one another, that Itachi would comment that he indeed wasn't the one to do it, this time. Because his alibi checks out. I'm thinking that Orochimaru is setting him up, so he could take out the higher ups, and take over. o.o Or something like that. We can have a lil bit of OroSasu but not overly so... since yeah no smut. >.>]
