He waited as the last lion left, and the next one approached. The flame seemed much larger than it was, as it was the only light source around, if one did not count the soft glow of the moon. They were approaching the finale of the Tree ceremony.

Ah. The next one who approached was a lioness, one that seemed a little wary about what her offering would tell him. Many of these new members had been rogues for most of their lives, and as such perhaps worried about the transition from rogue to pride life. He wondered if the fact that the clans themselves wandered within the pridal borders made it an easier transition than some other prides.

He gathered up her hair, bundling it together with a long blade of grass, and dropped it in the flame. Less smoke billowed out, but the hairs curled together as they burned and turned to ash. He nodded to himself before glancing up at the pale coloured lioness with his green eyes.

"Faline, you'll find where you belong with the Bird Clan." He smiled. "Welcome."

Eiji'dai watched as others walked to the pale lion, confer upon those strangers clans of whom they were to join. Eiji'dai waited, allowing others to take their turns before his own as his thoughts collected. His offer was secure, he knew what he was to give, but what was troubling his mind was his power. Since entering these lands with joining the pride who held dominion over it, not once his powers of foresight told him anything of his future, or anyone's for that matter.

Perhaps it was for the better, without his powers, he was normal like his half-siblings. He still carried his mother's divine blood as well as his father's royal, he was proud of both of his parents, though he was away from his homeland and his powers are dormant, nothing changed things. Thus his offer to this pride was what it was. Eiji bowed his head out of respect, "Greetings, sir, I come to you and your pride in peace in hopes to join you. I have heard of you from my greatest elders, who now rest in the stars, of your great pride." he spoke of the late leaders of the Pride Lands whom spoke of the Ela pride to his grandfather and, through his father, to him. Never had he thought he'd actually find them. "I offer you my mother's feather, a Goddess' boon of the hunt."

Eiji'dai laid out the black feather of whom he obtained from his mother, the Goddess of Hunt, in hopes that it will satisfy as an offering and maybe bring some sort of benefit to the pride.

Finally, the large male moved boldly to the one known as Skan Kanati. A lion of strong status in the pride, it unnerved him that he approached the male. Still, he walked strong and proud as was he was raised. Eiji'dai smiled as he dip

This was a big step for Cassian. For them. After all, he had been a rogue all of his life, though he had only spent a small portion of it truly alone. When he had been young there had been his family and then he had left them to find someone to aid in his independance. A short time after that, he had found Illena. They had been together ever since, though Cassian could not have foreseen their friendship could have ever taken such a turn. A good turn, however, it certainly was.

He'd been lost in his thoughts when his mate gave him a nudge, startling him back to reality. He stood slowly and, after a moment's hesitation, followed after her.

Waiting for Illena to introduce them, he stepped up alongside her; bowing his head respectfully. "I am Cassian. I...I wish nothing more than to live a simple life here. To be of use to others now that I have found myself." A simple statement, but one that was heartfelt.

With him he carried a small flower; one of many that grew close to the boundaries here, amongst the rocks. There had been many at the time of his healing by the Goddess Ameh. A reminder of what he had found and learned. He set it down before Skan.

Gentle jade eyes scanned the other travelers with an unintrusive curiosity for the various bits and bobs that they offered to the Ela'wadiyi pride leader. Caelyndei was mildly surprised when so many of them arrived, paws empty, offering only a lock of their own fur. Maybe she had misunderstood what was being asked of them when they had been asked to bring a possession that they regarded as a piece of themselves. Taken it to mean something far less literal, but she was reassured--if only slightly--by the others who gave feathers and shells as their offering.

She watched the lion by the fire. What was his name? Skan. Skan Kanani? Kanadi? Kan.. Kanati.

Sounds about right. The earthy lioness thought to herself. Smiling sympathetically at the leader by the fireside, he appeared young or new to this at least. Over the course of the ceremony she had watched his expressions shift subtly enough not to disrupt the solidarity of the moment, but definitively enough for Caelyndei to take notice. Skan seemed anxious, perhaps wary of so many newcomers? Though as she observed him with the initiation of each member the empathetic female believed it was more likely that he was uncertain if he was preforming his duties to the expectations of those around him.

The dedication he showed to committing every ounce of effort into his readings was admirable, to say the least and Caely wished she could soothe the uncertainty that occasionally flickered across his expression.Wished she could reassure him, that's just the way this amiable, little manx was. Whether they were bosom buddies or complete strangers, if there was a way for her to improve the life of another creature or support them in any way, Caelyndei was eager to help. It might have been part of what brought her here in the first place as she glanced down at the small rib bone sitting delicately at her paws. Even now the uncomfortably recent memories caused her eyes to sting with tears.

Lost in her thoughts, Cae barely noticed that all the others had been placed in their clans, leaving only her small, lingering form. Suddenly startled and embarrassed to be caught blatantly distracted from the proceedings which should have held her utmost attention. O-oh! I.. I'm.. I'm sorry..

A bashful, shaky tone expressed hurriedly. Bending to grab the bone in her jaws and carefully approach Skan Kanati where she rested the bleached, white effect before him. Emerald eyes timidly held low, avoiding meeting his gaze, though when she spoke again her voice was stronger, though still mild, and filled with purpose. Thank you, for all your hard work today. It must be a lot of pressure on you to properly divine where we're to spend our futures within the pride... but I think you're doing a wonderful job.

[ OMG, finally finished this. xD; Sorry if I held anyone up! ]

Skan accepted the very colourful feather, smiling as he watched the pair together. The flower rested comfortably on top of the feather, and Skan mourned the fact that it needed to be burned. A sacrifice to be remembered, and to show the future the pair would share together.

He closed his eyes, letting his nostrils fill with the strange smoke of the burning bundle of grasses, leaves, and sacrifices. He opened his eyes as he dropped the two offerings together, watching as they curled towards one another, not wanting to burn separately. He smiled to himself again, and glanced up at the pair.

"Illena. Cassian. You will live within the Earth Clan together. You will be a strong asset, and cherished within the pride as a whole."

Skan watched the couple depart, and glanced up a lion that looked vaguely familiar. He knew that they would get some lions of Pridelander blood. Perhaps that was why he looked familiar. Skan nodded to the lion, not mentioning this fact. It wasn't needed. His offering would tell Skan where he was to live. To become part of the Ela'wadiyi.

"Thank you," he said, taking the solid black feather and dropping it onto the heat. He watched it as it softly tumbled down, curling at the heat. He watched it as it started to crack, and slowly disappear within the orange glow of the fire. The smoke curled this way and that, and Skan had to follow it before he found the ending.

"Eiji'dai. You've come here to live, and you will start your life anew. Go with the Sky Clan, where you will feel welcome and at home."

Skan blinked as he glanced upwards and around him. There was no one..oh. There was one left. She seemed a little embarrassed that she seemed distracted, but Skan didn't mind. It must be a little unnerving to have a stranger dictate where you will live the rest of your life. He blinked, nodding when she approached.

Upon further inspection, she didn't look too scared. She just looked like she had been caught off guard at her sudden turn, and being the last one as well. That meant that there was less of an audience, however, since new members were mingling with old. No matter how much he asked for those to be patient, some just couldn't help themselves and meet with their new extended family.

He took the paw gently, rolling it up towards his chest. He glanced curiously at it before looking back up at her with a soft, tired smile. "Thank you," he said. He really meant it. Usually he was more proper than anything, but this felt a bit different. He appreciated it.

He rolled the bone into the small fire, his paw growing hot with warning before he withdrew it. It wouldn't do any good to get burned on the last offering. The bone did not burn as the fire was not hot enough, but it did blacken it as the flames tried to consume this last offering. It was a curious thing to watch, and it almost seemed like the smoke was taunting the flames to consume it. He knew that it wouldn't work, and instead watched the smoke twirl within itself. Very curious, perhaps just like the lioness that had offered it. Satisfied that he had Seen enough, as he usually caught bits and pieces of the future within his powers, his attention shifted to her.

"Caelyndei. I've seen your future. Not all of it, just pieces. You seem happiest within the Shadow Clan, and that is where I hope you will find the home that you wish for."

The warmth that resided within Skan's words of appreciation made Caely smile a bit more brightly, seeming to gain the confidence from his gratitude she needed to face her fate head on. Jade eyes lifted and wide as if trying to take in both the leader and the rippling fire at the same time. Attempting to understand the gestures of both as she drifted between the lines on the lion's face and the flickering dance of flames that attempted to devour her offering.

Nerves twisted and writhed with anxiety as a wavering gaze watched the rib with a growing unease. Unlike the fur that had shriveled and turned to ash in a matter of seconds Caely's bone sat and defied the ritual stubbornly. Blackening, but hardly being eaten away with the voraciousness the exhausted hearth had shown others. What did it mean?

Her gaze lifted again, searching Skan's expression once more. He seemed as intent and focused as he had been with all those who came before her, but not concerned. No, he didn't appear worried in the least as their eyes finally met again and her fate was unflinchingly announced.

The Shadow Clan. To hear it spoken out loud was like a dream and a breath of fresh air as the painted female sighed with relief. A joy like nothing she had ever known overwhelming the young lioness. She was part of a pride! She had a home! Finally, there was somewhere she belonged!

T-Thank you! Thank you, Skan! A silky trill of delight filling the air as Caelyndei rushed up to her new leader. Nuzzling her face into the plush fur of his mane rather inappropriately in her elation, barely able to contain the tears that trembled in her voice as she whispered against his fur and quickly twisted on her haunches, darting off to join her clan mates.

...thank you for giving me a home.
