KristophReed Kris laughs at the sheer irony of it all when he sees you fighting with the sand.See! I told you the stuff is bad for you! Anyway! Kris laughs happily as he starts to walk up the boardwalk with D.Well, again, if you need ten baths, you have unlimited bath water at the inn. Of course, I wouldn't recommend taking 10 baths in a row, I think you might look more like a flush red prune after the third or fourth one. Heh. He continues walking calmly alongside D and he grins slightly at being told his words weren't too bad. Those had always been one of his biggest challenges with social order but maybe he just wasn't in a good place to practice.Oh? you really think so? Heh... if you knew me back in my college days you would probably disagree. I couldn't talk my way out of a wet paper bag back then. Maybe my time in the business world changed things a little. His words hang lightly as the two arrive at the door of the inn. He politely opens it for D and then follows behind. After a precursory look, he finds no sign of Bertie.Well here we are... oh, and FYI, since we didn't quite make it there, my office/room is the last one past the other room. If I am not around the main area, that's a good place to look for me... say... what do you intend to do now? Kris realized his words might be a bit confusing so he added more to them. That is...er... do you plan on heading up to your room? Or do you want to do something down here? D laughs out loud about looking like a prune after too many baths in a row.No, I don't think too many baths would be a very good idea. I suppose your business experience would give you ample opportunity to interact with people, so yeah, I would say you've had plenty of experience to work with. I can't imagine you not being able to interact socially, you do so well with it now. D walks in the door ahead of you and stops to look around, and to wait for you to catch up. She listens to you speak, and smiles at your moment of awkwardness.I think I'm going to go change into non-sandy clothes and then come back downstairs.

Kris smiles nervously at the compliment, he wasn't entirely sure how to take this statement but he didn't want to sound silly so he tried his best to answer.
Oh? Well thanks! I did have to kind of learn the hard way when I was meeting with business partners and stuff but since I didn't really have anyone outside of my business to talk with often I guess I just never realized. Ah but don't go buttering up your innkeeper, you might make me reduce your rent payments. Heh.
Kris nods in response to your decision to head upstairs. He wasn't sandy enough to need a change of clothes but he would have time to go dump out the sand in his shoes and change socks
Sounds good. I am going to go get the sand out of my shoes and socks but I will meet you back out here in a bit. We might even play some Scrabble!
He nods and waits a moment in case there was anything else to say before departing to his office.

D chuckles as she heads toward the stairs. She pauses at the bottom and pulls off her socks and shoes.
Oh, no! Don't reduce my rent. I don't mind paying full price. Scrabble sounds good.
D picks up her shoes, stuffs her socks inside and disappears up the stairs, Gig following close behind.
Once she is in her room, she locks the door and changes her clothes, cleaning off all of the sand and dumping it out the window. She then sits on the bed to sort through her thoughts.

Kris nods as D heads upstairs and he chuckles lightly.
Okay then don't butter me up! LOL See you soon!
Kris then heads to his room and kicks off his shoes and pulls off his socks. He begins emptying his shoes out his own window and wipes the sand grains off his feet. Once all is cleaned, he puts on some new socks and then puts his old shoes back on.
Within a few moments, he calmly walks back to the main area looking for Bertie. Seeing no sign of her or of D, he stretches and sits down in a chair near the door.

Not wanting to linger on any bad memories, Bertie shakes off her nostalgia and turns to leave the library. As she does so, she thinks she catches the sound of footsteps. Perhaps Kris has returned. It had been long enough, as she believed she had been staring at all those books for some time now. Believing that there wasn't much more to see here, Bertie headed back in the direction she came, back towards the lobby.
As she walked, Bertie wondered if everything had been resolved with the other woman staying here--she had forgotten her name. There was little to indicate that things had gone badly, but that didn't mean she could be wrong, and it wasn't really any of her concern anyway. Her steps were soft and difficult to hear, not that she was trying to be quiet on purpose. This was just her natural way of walking.
Once she was in the lobby, it didn't take long for her to catch sight of Kris. He appeared to be resting in a chair. She briefly wondered if he was sleeping, but as she approached she saw that he looked awake. She wondered if she should say something to make herself known. Really this would be easier if she didn't have to say anything, but that wasn't going to work obviously. Sighing ever so slightly, she mustered up the right words.
"I guess I'll take that room now, if you don't mind..."

"I guess I'll take that room now, if you don't mind..." Kris was relieved that he had managed to reach out to D after she had been so startled. He could tell that there was something bigger going on behind those purple goggles but he was never the type to force answers.
As he was gathering his thoughts, Kris heard some footsteps approaching. As soft as they were, he thought it could be D walking without shoes after the sand incident but the sound was coming from behind him which didn't make sense considering D's room was upstairs.
Out of the corner of his field of view, he saw Bertie's figure but she seemed intent on sneaking up on him. Not wanting to ruin her fun, Kris remained silent until he heard her voice. He feigned being startled and appeared to jump slightly. How Bertie reacted to his little charade would help him better understand just how intense of a person she might be.Oh! Ahem... sorry Bertie, didn't see you there.. whoo startled me. Heh. You would like a room? Sure! I can do that. Do you want to go now? At this, Kris stood to his full height and watched Bertie and waited for her response.

Bertie watched silently as Kris reacted to the sound of her voice. She felt bad for apparently startling him, so much so that her face flushed with embarrassment as she thought about how she could have tried to be a little louder as she approached. She had no reason to think he was being insincere, until she heard him speak. Raising her eyebrow slightly, she wondered if he was teasing her, which only made her blush more. While she was attentive to the feelings and behavior of others, this did not make her stoic and reserved, instead it made her more sensitive than others. Not that she was upset, just that too much attention caused her to feel nervous. Wanting to shift the attention elsewhere, she nodded slightly and responded to Kris's question.
"Yes, I would like that."
Bertie remained still as Kris stood and prepared to go. She thought that maybe she should say something more, but she couldn't think of anything to say. She wasn't fond of small talk, so if she didn't have something to say, she usually remained silent. She found that this made some people uncomfortable, but she didn't know if Kris would care so she made no effort to change her behavior. From the performance he had just given, Bertie believed that he was laid back in some respects.

She found that this made some people uncomfortable, but she didn't know if Kris would care so she made no effort to change her behavior. From the performance he had just given, Bertie believed that he was laid back in some respects. Kris noted in Bertie's body language that she could tell he was being slightly mischievous but what surprised him was how reserved Bertie had been. Perhaps he was something like that when he was younger. Trying to break the ice, he laughs slightly and starts making his way toward the steps to the upper level of the inn. Heh.. okay then, come on this way. Do you have any preference about what room number or floor you are on? Some people are particular about things like that. If not, no big deal. D is on the second floor, right side. Pausing at the stairs, Kris slips off his shoes and places them on a shelf just inside the doorway to the stairs. He nods to Bertie.;Oh, a piece of history for you here, the original innkeep had these amazing floors put in for the entire inn area that really are amazing for a traveler's weary feet. However, to truly enjoy them, you will want to be either in socks or barefoot. I won't be as militant about shoes up here as he was but I do think you will prefer it once you have been up here. He turns to a series of locked shelves with numbers and key holes on them and then holds us a room key. After locating the shelf with the matching number he unlocks the shelf to illustrate that many pairs of shoes can easily fit in the shelf and it will still lock.Once you have a room key, it will unlock the matching cabinet down here to put shoes in or you can just take them up to your room with you. Let me know when you are ready and we'll go find the room for you. This would be one of the first examples of Bertie's personality for Kris to see, would she follow his suggestion? Would she ignore it? How uncomfortable would the suggestion make her?
He waited for acknowledgment from her before heading up the stairs.

Bertie honestly wasn't sure what to think about Kris's laugh, but she didn't dwell on it. She didn't think he was laughing at her, not exactly, but it did make her wonder what was funny. She supposed he really was trying to joke with her just then, but there was no point in bringing it up again. Silent, she followed Kris's lead. When he spoke, Bertie listened with interest and considered his question before speaking in her usual tone.
"Whatever room you choose will be fine."
Honestly, she did have a number and a floor she could have chosen based on her preferences, but she always allowed fate to decide things when possible. Giving Kris the choice was really like giving fate the choice, in her opinion. Of course, these were just her thoughts, and she didn't see the need to explain them to Kris so she kept quiet.
When she saw Kris take off his shoes, she remembered what he had said earlier and followed suit without questioning him; she offered him a nod to indicate that she understood. She was a little curious to feel these floors he was raving about as well. To get her boots off, Bertie pushed on the silver bands wrapped around each boot, which allowed her feet to slip out easily. When the clasps were pushed, a little clicking noise could be heard. Realizing that Kris was waiting for some sort of confirmation from her, she spoke up after gathering her boots in her hands.
"After you."

Hmm... not much for conversation I see, that's no problem, all of us are different but I might bore you to death with talking sometimes... I always find that I learn interesting things about people when I have time to chat.
Kris didn't want to think that Bertie was a cold person but she was certainly a person who seemed to prefer few words so he tried not to babble too much. He was also glad to see that Bertie didn't mind ditching the shoes she was wearing. It was always a strange custom to new travelers, it seemed, with some offering outright opposition to the request. At least Bertie seemed to be the type who would comply when she was asked to.
Very well, I will put you in room 215, it is the first room on the left side of the second floor. Off we go then...
With this, he led Bertie up the stairs, listening to see if the floors had worked the same magic on her as they had on D.
Shortly after your feet begin to climb the stairs, you will see what prompted this strange shoe custom... the floors instantly feel extremely soft as though you are walking on clouds, if you were weary before, it starts to go away quickly.
Kris leads you up the stairs and to the left, opening the first room you can come to on this side with the numbers 2-1-5 inscribed on the door. Kris unlocks the door and hands you the key. You will notice the sweet smell of a clean place and find the floor in the room itself is even more amazing than that of the floor in the hallway and you feel almost weightless against the carpet and will feel your whole body relax as you enter.
(( the new room layouts and descriptions are all listed on the Side RP thread so it is easier to point you there instead of copying and pasting the entire deal. You probably already looked at the description so I won't need to bother rattling on about it. ))
Here we are, a famous DarkSeas Harbor Inn and Tavern room. Rent runs 20G per night or I will give you a discount if you pay a week at a time and only charge you 125G, its a meager discount but I am trying to keep the place profitable.
Of course, for those that decide they like this place and want to stay longer, I will offer the same courtesy as the innkeepers of the past offered... if you decide you want to help around the place, I can give you discounted rates all the way up to living rent free for as long as you serve the place. But of course, that's up to you!
Kris waits patiently for you to have a good look and feel around the room.

Bertie almost sighed at what Kris said about her being quiet. She had heard this a lot, and she honestly wasn't trying to be silent out of rudeness, so it made her somewhat disheartened when people thought such. Not that she thought Kris had ill feelings towards her; she just knew he thought she was strange now. Her face was slightly flushed as these thoughts entered her head, and she barely heard what Kris said about the room she would be staying in. Right now, she just wanted to get there, close the door, and hide for a bit.
As they ascended the stairs, Bertie's thoughts were focused on little else but the room she would be staying in shortly. That is, until she felt the floor. She actually paused when both her feet were planted, and without even realizing it, she spoke.
"...Feels like home..."
The feeling was uncanny. Were they the same floors? No, that wasn't possible, but they had a similar softness. What were the odds? She wasn't sure if this was something to be happy about or not, she simply walked on until she reached the room Kris was opening up. As he discussed the cost of the room, Bertie stepped inside and looked around. The floor was even softer here; it was soft enough to sleep on. Nothing about the room was a problem for her. Really, there was very little should would have complained about anyway. A room was a room. She looked at the open door and took note of the number, which she hadn't really been paying attention to before. Everything seemed just right.
She was listening to Kris as she explored the room, and she looked towards him once to acknowledge his words. Her face appeared calmly pleased. She seemed somewhat more at ease now then she had downstairs.
"The room is perfect, thank you. 20g seems reasonable."
As she said this, she wandered into the bathroom area and appeared to be looking over the room. While in the room, Bertie flipped back her hood and reached into a pouch near the back of her neck. She pulled out a change purse of sorts, flipped the hood back over her head, and returned to the main room where Kris was finishing saying something about working for rent.
"Should I pay you now?"

"Should I pay you now?" Kris could not help but feel like he and Bertie really weren't getting off on the right foot but he was hopeful that he could solve this by simply spending more time speaking with her and trying not to let his sense of humor dampen their relationship. After all, no one would want to stay in the place if the innkeep had a record for rudeness.
He cocked his head slightly when he heard you mention the feeling of home, it made him feel quite happy. He had no idea of the deeper meaning this statement had.Oh really? Good! I am glad you enjoy this place feeling like home. I hope you find it inviting even if your innkeeper is annoyingly chatty. Heh. Kris was glad to hear the the room met your expectations. He wasn't sure if you had heard the statement about working but felt that it would come up soon anyway.Sure, you can pay me now if you would like. As I said, it's only 20G for one night or 125 per week. How many nights did you want to book?

Hearing Kris mention the feeling of home, Bertie realized that she must have expressed that thought aloud earlier without meaning to. She felt a bit embarrassed, but because Kris didn't seem to think it odd, she was a bit reassured. Her face did flush slightly though, to reveal her thoughts. However, she was more concerned with the chatty comment. Her face expressed a bit of distress at that, but she kept silent until she was sure Kris was done speaking. She didn't want to seem rude. Once he asked her how long she would be staying, Bertie figured it was appropriate for her to speak.
"Oh, well, I am not quite sure yet. I think it best to start with just the one night for now. And, um..."
She paused before continuing, as if she wasn't completely sure about what words to use. She looked off to the side to indicate that she was thinking, but she didn't keep Kris waiting too long before saying what was on her mind.
"I do not find you annoying."
Perhaps she should have said more, but that was all she could come up with at the moment. She simply wanted Kris to know that she didn't dislike him, as she had no reason to do so at this point. Trying to divert the attention elsewhere, she opened her change purse and took out the 20g due for the room. She then reached out her hand to offer it to Kris.

He could see that you were blushing again. Now he was really starting to wonder if he had really improved on his social skills. D seemed to think so and had him feeling quite sure of himself and then this... well... at least the day was young. Uh sure, I can go ahead and take the fare now. If you happen to decide you want to stay longer and can't find me, you will find a lockbox outside my office where you can pay more. I leave a notepad there for you to write your room number on as well but that may not be a problem since you are one half of my customers. Heh. He gingerly took the money from your hand and placed it in a small pouch on his side. He smiles as well to show his sincerity as he speaks. Thanks! I am glad you don't find me annoying! I was not really all that great at social skills so...I uh... kind of mess up from time to time.

Bertie listened to what Kris was telling her about payment options for the future. All this talk of staying longer made her consider if she thought that would happen. It hadn't occurred to her to stay here for longer than just tonight. At this point, it seemed unlikely that she would find a reason to stick around. She was getting rather tired of being on the move though. Her private thoughts were interrupted by Kris saying something about his social skill as he took the money from her hand. She let her arm fall to her side as she spoke.
"I would not have guessed that you have any difficulty with being social. To me, you appear to be doing fine. It is me that is off."
She had always disliked being social with strangers, so Bertie was certain that she was the one being difficult. To her, Kris seemed to be comfortable enough to get by. Maybe he wasn't exuding complete confidence, but that was about it.
"Do you not find yourself around people all that often?"
She wasn't sure what made her ask that question, but it was out there now.
