Personally I find the pill is very useful for me. At 16 I don't want to get pregnant, I am not capable both mentally and financially to handle a baby. I currently have a boyfriend who I am very close to and although we don't have sex yet we will be soon. As Chieftain pointed out condoms can not work sometimes so I feel better and safer knowing I have a back-up. As side effects I have found my period comes regular (before it would be all over the calendar, but now I can plan for it XD) and my acne is not as bad as it used to be.

My friend was put on the pill rather young to help regulate her period. There were also other hormonal issues they wanted to try it out on, but I forget exactly what. It didn't really help me in that area so... And I still don't like giving my body some extra stuff to process, since it didn't do anyhing much for me.

Well everyone is different. The pill may work wonders for some people and for others it may mess up their system too much.

Yup. And there are so many different pills or ways, that it could send one person through hell trying to figure out which on works best for them...

Ya, that's true. There are so many hormonal birth controls and even once one decides on a method there are a lot of brands with different doses and everything. When I started on the pill I had to switch my brand because I was having chest pains. The brand I'm on now is good for me though.

All of the risks are what really make me stay away from them... All the pills or methods have pretty much the same. I would imagine finding a pill that works better with your own body would lessen these risks, but why should a pill that is supposed to do good, have so many bad risks. That's a bit of a different discussion though.

I am on the pill and have been on and off since 2009. I like the pill because..well...I dont want no babies XP

Sure you can get blot clots and such, but its a low risk unless you smoke. I dont smoke and I've never had a history of blood clots so honestly I'm not too scared.

if it comes down to a choice between the pill or getting an abortion

i would feel much less invaded by taking the pill

and i support others who make that choice as well

I was watching TV and that Seasonick, or whatever, commercial came on. All I could think is, "how unnatural!?" They say it limits menstruation to four times a year, but in the "fine print" is states that there can be spotting and a flow like a period. My point. Is birth control like this harmful to the body? Is birth control harmful to the body period? Is it ethical? Go ahead and tear apart the discussion and give whatever insight and opinion you like. I know this is a little vague so have at it.

I, personally, do not like birth control. I feel a lot better when I am not on it. I have known girls who were so damn moody while on it! And the risks?! Blood clots in arms, legs and lungs, abdominal pain, chest pain, eye problems, and swelling/aching? sounds like fun to me! Aren't we at more of a risk here? Why would someone take a medicine that has greater risks than benefits?

Note: I consider birth control what the woman takes/injects/inserts in to her body. The patch, the Nuvaring thingy, the pill, the shots, all those sorts. I consider condoms, spermicide and things to be contraceptives.

I'm okay if a person wants to be on "the pill" but the type that only causes a period four times a year sounds like just a bad idea. The female body does that once a month for a reason and messing with it to the point of it only happening one third of the time could damage something, potentially causing the woman to have trouble having kids later on in life.

From the ethical side, it could be viewed as just an added precaution to prevent a baby. But, it's also worrisome about the health risks that can be caused from the birth control.

(Oh man, and I have a couple of friends that take birth control [one or two are on it because of hormone problems that require them to take it] and they are a whiplash roller coaster of emotions. Comically, I've noticed that it sometimes helps to carry chocolate [like M&M's] on ones person for situations that occur)

All man made birth control have a negative affect on the body, some people get early warnings others don't find out until the damage is done. I often wondered why so many women from the birth control generation had a hard time getting pregnant. The pill and other birth control devices are induced into the body for the purpose of destroying some natural occurances, as a result the body fights back and usually in all battles there is damage.
