The next fork proved challenging to face. Eclipse had heard the snarling of the lynxes and nearly considered trying to find his way back out of the cave. But as the snarling died down, his confidence returned, and he pressed on.

The next fork he was a bit more cautious towards. He stepped down each fork only long enough to test the ground with a hoof. Hollow, wooden... and then muffled and mossy. His decision making was based on whim, and the last few decisions had served him well. Nodding to himself, he took the right path; the sound of clopping hooves on wood was somehow comforting. Solid ground underneath his feet was always a good thing.

And to reach that voice (he was assured that the doe calling from the back of the cave would be beautiful), he would do whatever it took.

Grace hears the lynxes in the background, but their snarling dies down. Heaving a sigh of relief that she'd escaped danger once again, she was beginning to worry that her luck was going to run out soon. Taking a few cautious steps down the right fork, she feels uneasy with the way the floor sounds. Trotting back a few steps, she takes a cautious step down the left fork, immediately relaxing with the familiar feel of moss under her, just like the swamp. Still worried about her luck, Grace started walking down the left fork

Aure continued on, looking about her carefully. In the distance, she thought she heard the screams of other Kimeti, and she silently felt relieved to still be evidently on the right path. The wind had not let her down.

But, it wasn't long before she stopped again at yet another fork. Far way, the voice was still there, urging her, pushing her onward. But, which way? She strained her ears, but she could not make out the direction. It seemed to come from all around her - left, right, front, and back.

All she could make out were two sounds - distinctly different ones from the different paths - and neither sounded inviting.

After much thought, Aura turned left. She preferred the unknown, after all, and she wasn't sure if she trusted the idea of hollow wood in a maze.

The way was uneventful, save for the snarls of unhappy lynxes -- but even then, they faded away. Skybled let out the breath he had held as the quiet thrums and chirps of the swamp broke the silence, shaking his head before turning to the paths in front of him.

Again, the buck stepped forward and investigated each path. One rang loudly; the other quietly. The spellbuck took a deep breath and arched his neck before marching down the right path, shamelessly creating as much noise as possible to chase off any more unruly lynxes.

This entire journey was unnerving, to say the least. Once or twice, Evening Hush had felt the urge to run and hide, or even turn around completely. But the voice was too alluring, and so she continue with the others, sticking as close as she could to another kimeti without imposing herself. At the fork, the doe opted to go left, if only because of the way the moss muted sounds. And if Evening Hush were to ever find herself bleating in terror, at least she wouldn't be as loud.

Again Leaves-in-Twilight paused, flicking an ear in both directions to listen to the world just out of sight. To the left, things were almost too quiet, even for him. A muted world was not the one he wanted to explore. Things in the swamp were damp and heavy and muffled true sound.

No, he wanted to know more about the path that echoed with crisp, new sounds. Unfamiliar and strange. He shook himself and turned to pace down the path to the right.

The Right Fork

As three kimeti set foot on the ringing wood,
they realize what that sound is, what it means:
Branches, trees, and as they step down the path,
the chiming twitter of songbird song fills their ears.

One buck is sharp-eyed and sharp-witted,
[or at least slightly more so than his peers]
and realizes that this is wrong, it's another trap:
he spies a gap in the maze and ducks through,
joining his wiser companions on the left path.

  • phoenix kiss / Eclipse - 4

The other two continue blithely on, following that song,
until they find themselves staring up at a cluster of
brilliant songbirds, their chitter befuddling the senses,
driving the pair back the way they came, out of the maze --
but with new friends. Assuming they feed them well.

  • Samuel Carlin / Leaves-in-twilight - 3
  • Marushii / Skybled - 2

OOC:
Eclipse was lucky, and has been put back onto the right path.
More information regarding his next decision will be in the next post.
Sadly, however, the rest of you are out of the game.
Send blue a PM with your favorite color or a kimeti,
and she will make you a free songbird pet!

The Left Fork

Those who ended up on the left fork:

  • anemosagkelos / Lull
  • Dyslexic Rat / Water's Grace
  • Huni Pi / Evening Hush
  • Illusei / Aura
  • phoenix kiss / Eclipse

Will find the path splitting once again before them.
Nimue's voice is in the distance, taunting and luring still.

User Image

The path to the left sparkles with the glimmer of magic.
The path to the right is heavily shrouded in pitch black shadows.

Which one do you choose?

Lull blinks at the sparkles--like sunlight on the water, she thinks--before turning her head to look at the shadows. It's a conflicting choice. She wants to know about the glimmering star-bursts before her but she can find stars and the glitter of sunlight in other places. The shadows are more intriguing, she likes the shadows for all the things she can see in them. She has no idea which way is the way to the voice, so again she goes the way she wishes. She goes right into the shadows that she wishes to know better.

Shadows are something Eclipse knows well. His name comes from his dream -- a dream where shadows slipped even over the moon, dimming its light and revealing things best left to the dark. The dark-furred buck stands at the mouth of the fork in the cave, agonizing over which choice to take--

Something he knows, or something he doesn't?

Eventually, after a few seconds of dancing in place, Eclipse shakes his hair out of his face and walks through into the glittering magic, taking the left path. The sparkles are so beautiful...

Aure could hardly believe she had come this far. Luck was rarely on her side.

The maze continued, and she studied each path intently, though she could still barely see past the mist. Finally, she decided she must go on the right path. She had come this far by going into the unknown, and she will continue that way. The sparkles seemed enticing, but somehow, she mistrusted them. Sometimes, it's best not to know what lies ahead.

Grace was amazed when she saw Eclipse walk back with them into the correct path, it seemed. Other kimeti that went the separate way never met back with them, so she thought they were out. She hoped that nothing bad happened to them. Finding herself at yet another fork, she saw that one side was all sparkly and magical, and the other was heavily shrouded in pitch black shadows. Figuring that Nimue wouldn't directly show them her magic, she didn't think the left would be a good idea, as it was probably a trick. The other side didn't look good either, but she could hear her voice off in the distance. Taking a deep breathe, Grace started walking down the right path

Evening Hush found herself mesmerized with the left path and had almost gone with Eclipse. But somehow she manages to shake her head clear and stumble back a few steps. She glanced around her wordlessly and set off with the rest of the group to the right.

The Left Fork

Eclipse had been given a second chance at the maze:
his sharp eyes had spotted a gap and taken advantage,
only to stumble down the wrong path.

It will only take a moment for him to realize his error.
The path, so fascinating with magic, glittering and bright,
twists back into the maze, back on itself, and the path
behind him is quickly lost.

It finally comes to a halt, and he will find himself facing
a narrow-eyed owlcat, snickering with amusement,
its tail swishing in an entertaining way. It can't speak,
so just stares at him mockingly. He is trapped, for now:
until the maze comes to a close.

OOC:
Eclipse is now out of the game! However,
Send blue a PM with your favorite color or a kimeti,
and she will make you a free owlcat pet!
