I like it, but many people are complaining about it sounding exactly like Madonna's "Express Yourself."

I looked up Express Yourself and it kinda does .. I know I'm sounding like a whiny b***h right now .. =(

Yes it does, but it's not a horrid rip off as people are making it out to be. People have been throwing s**t at Gaga about being a copy cat since she first appeared. Yes, 'Born this Way' isn't the most original song ever made but I can't say what Madonna did was any more or less original.

Most of what Madonna has been known for was her shattering the image of the cute, virginal pop star and bringing out this image of a more edgy and sexually expressive pop star. But her music is weak,so is her voice.
The songs themselves may have broken the 'rules' and stirred controversy but that doesn't mean they were 'good' songs. Most sane older people who lived through the 80's would tell you that Maddona wasn't really the best thing since sliced bread in terms of her music when she first came out.

'Like a Virgin' is a nice sweet tune and stirred controversy but it's nothing that would give Madonna the right to announce herself as a pinnacle of musical genius, same goes for many songs she has done over the past decades.

Madonna broke barriers, has her place in history and a couple of really good songs I'll admit but people don't realize how much of her music is very derivative from music before her but you don't see people getting their nipples in a pinch about it do you?

'Born this Way' is Gaga's own work, it's definitely derivative of music from before her but it's still her own work that honors the attitudes brought about in 'Express Yourself' while applying them to this common era.

I like the song. At first I was thinking that the lyrics were mediocre and that she could've done much better, but now that I listen to it, I can feel what she is truly saying. The lyrics don't seem mediocre anymore. It's a wonderful song. And I keep hearing this comparison to Madonna's Express Yourself and I really don't think it is there. Maybe a small nod, but nothing more.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do

OMG, LOVE IT!

I can somewhat see why people might make the connection to Express Yourself. But honestly, I don't see it. However, I do find the beat to have that "late 80's/early 90's" feel to it. Express Yourself and Vogue share that kind of beat feel. Honestly, the beat feeling seems much more similar to Bonnie Raitt's Something to Talk About than anything by Madonna. Either way, Born This Way is a splendid song. Can't wait for the video

its not all that same ..... and if madonna, than.. come on,
Staple Singers' "Respect Yourself"

i just
LOVE
it so
much!
dont be a drag, just be a queen!

okay, so the song itself isn't musically "revolutionary"...
i think "bad romance", "dance in the dark", " anatomy of change" can take care of that
the oint of this song was to be an "anthem"...
any anthem for any country is never the most "musicially beautiful" song of the country... it's supposed to reach it's audience through it's message more than the crazy sounds.
yet, even for an anthem, gaga's born this way some how even SOUDNS "free" and beautiful! isnt it?

so sit back, listen, and love the way you were born smile

Clicking on Lady Gaga's new website, I listened to the first 10 seconds and then closed it. I thought the song was going to release 2 hours later (I didn't look at the time conversion properly). Well.. I didn't want to spoil myself! And when I heard the 'Capital H-I-M' while I was playing my own music I knew it was going to be good.

Instead, I read real-time twitter and I see all of these constant complaints on how 'Gaga is a copy of Madonna' or 'Vogue + Express Yourself?' and 'I didn't like her anyway'. It's so embarrassing really, on part of these people that are just jumping on the bandwagon and taking a stab in the dark to give the song a bad name as being the 'photocopy' or the mixed version of two totally irrelevant songs.

I'm on my second listen, and I have to say it was mediocre first listen because there is so much to absorb. There are so many passionate lyrics, so many meanings behind them. With every listen, you pull each door open and you begin to understand the song completely. Then after that, there's not end or possibility to listening to this tune and the way she sings it. I don't really think Born This Way can be compared to Bad Romance or any of her other songs. I will admit that it is different to her others songs about sex and her sexuality, but this is about accepting it. Anthem definitely, but I wonder is the distortion and hiss in the chorus intentional because it's really distracting?

I also really enjoy the variation in the voice mixing biggrin . 'Don't be a drag, just be a queen!'

Someone actually said in the comment for that article that Madonna should get her lawyers and sue Gaga. Over what? If Madonna would be inclined to sue Gaga over this song then why doesn't she just sue every pop artist since the year 2000.

Sorry, but the mindless stroking of Madonna's ego is so irritating.

Born this way isn't one of my favorite Gaga songs but I can tell when a song has been ripped off and when it's clearly inspired. People are really digging to throw crap at Gaga aren't they?

this song is an "anthem".. it's not supposed to be ear challenging crazy. it's the message that counts.
i mean, US's anthem isnt the most musicially "beautiful", but it has soul.

BUT born this way IS musicially BEAUTIFUL AND FREE

I'm going to wait till the Grammies.

Eh, eh. People have always said Gaga is a cheap ripoff. I' haven't heard the song but it's more about the meaniing than the actually music.

Plus, nobody should be saying anything about Madonna anymore. She isn't even working anymore is she? And when she is she's absorbing the talent of someone younger.

I bet you nobody will be complaining about it soon. It's one of those more than one listen kind of songs like Teeth or Eh, Eh.

Plus the 90's 80's was the birth of the pop explosion wasn't it? Sometimes you have to get to the beginning of things to make them better.
