kefkadragon Hooray for disagreement! Debates keep conversations going *returns handshake vigorously* maybe there should be a monster sub forum for discussions of the many dq creatures. Without diversity life would be extremely boring- but yes, that sounds like a great idea, a monster guide perhaps where people can discuss the monsters, make pages dedicated to them, etc. To quote the Mayor from Nightmare Before Christmas, "I fully endorse it, let's try it at once."

Hi there everyone, I'm NinjaRyu11! You can call me plain ol Ryu, Rhys, or Rhyus if you'd like? Since that's what others refer to me at the other guild I'm in. But call me whatever you'd like! =D
So anyways, I've recently become very interested into the Dragonwarrior/Quest games. At first when I played the Nes version of the first game about 7 or 8 years ago, and to be perfectly honest I couldn't really get into the game. It was mostly because well, I never played Rpgs during that time. So it was kind of a new experience for me. The only games I really played was stuff like Zelda, or Sonic. Though, as a kid I did play the Pokemon games during the whole "Pokemon Obsession Faze" but I didn't really think it was an Rpg back then. sweatdrop
So after awhile, I became very lost on what I was supposed to do in Dragon Warrior so I just forgot about it for many years. That is until a few months ago I decided to give the game another chance because I've been hearing so many great things about the series.
And well.. Now I really wish I had played more of the games. Because it ended up being a very fun and addicting game. It's true that the game had frustrating parts and of course, there's so much grinding that is required. But besides all of that, I really enjoyed it very much in the end. I'm hoping to get into the series a bit more! ^_^

Heya Rhyus! Good to see you here! I'm glad you're enjoying the series so far.
And that's interesting. Pokemon was what started me playing video games, but I never really thought of it as an RPG back then either. Not to mention, I'm not a pokemon fan now (though I still do pull out my old red version and Soulsilver now and then). And when I played Dragon Warrior III for the first time, it felt like a different experience, even though the game was technically from the same genre. And I didn't appreciate DQIII as much as I do now until I picked it up again much later, even though I did get far in it when I first played it. SO I guess we're similar in that way, Rhyus! Be sure to keep us up to date on how you're doing! I'll be curious as to how you progress through the series and how you like the games you play!

Hello everyone, Just joined and got accepted to the group. I look forward to talking with all of you, and for just having a good time sharing good dragon quest stuff. I've been playing VI on the SNES and I'm looking forward to starting on III after this. I like dragon quest much more than I have ever liked Final Fantasy.

Well, ha ha, isn't this a bit late? Oh well! *cracks knuckles* Better late than never!
Hello, Dragon Questers! My name is Misuki Marishima, aka "Sue" from FEF or Erinn in this very guild!
At first I joined this place as a means to show off my LP's but then I played Dragon Quest IX upon getting it as a Christmas present around one year ago. To this day I am still playing this game (I'm on the last dungeon at the moment), but I plan on exploring other parts of the series very soon. If I could get my little hands on the DS version of V, I would be very happy.
I'm a fanfic writer, an Deviantart photographer, and an RP'er.
At the moment I'm in college, studying to be a teacher. I am so close to the end I could taste it!
Well, that's all about me! ^^ Hope new members and old loved this rather late intro of mine.

Hello ~ heart Hmm well I am new here although that is probably obvious heh. I am a big fan of Dragon Quest which is probably even more fricken obvious sweatdrop
I suck at introductions but lets see.
I love video games as a whole but ever since I began playing Dragon Quest back in 2005 I was hooked on it. I learned about it from a wikipedia page linked by dragon ball z and decided to give it a try although it took some borrowing of a game and the system. Since then I have gone a little crazy with getting systems, games, plushies, and staying up way to late for it to be healthy whee
However I think it is well worth it all. In between all that I love to read, listen to music, write fanfictions, draw, and just laze about. The more in depth is on my profile and the laziness in me makes it so only the most important stuff is here heh
My favorite DQ game is probably VII mainly cause it was the first one I completed and stayed awake a whole week to beat the boss. Plus the story was rather memorable. I enjoyed the treats it held as well. All and all though I cannot pick a favorite and have not played all the games so it is not fair to judge yet.
Currently I am duel playing Joker 2 and Swords depending on if I can get the tv away from the parental units or not. More often than not I am lucky enough to play a few hours of swords (my second run) and then go to sleep to playing a little bit of Joker 2.
I suppose you could say I am a bit obsessed and it is totally unhealthy lol
If I had the means I would play more of the older games as I have tried to find them but have only been able to play one. Anyways that is all really and sadly most of it is DQ related... rofl
I hope to stick around you have no idea how hard it is to find people who like this series as much as I do sweatdrop

Glad to have you here at the guild, Sue!! xp
Oh, and hello there Emmie The Strange. Nice to see another fellow Dragon Quest fan here as well. ^_^
So DQ VII is your favorite? I've never played that one, but I hear it is pretty amazing. Though, a 3ds remake of the game was made recently in japan and hopefully that can somehow get a release to the west. I'd like to give that one a try someday...
The older Dragon Warrior nes games are a bit of a Grindfest but still are very nice games.

Oh my I forgot a I lol I meant VIII 8 but I do love VII too I love all the ones I have played. As for VII I heard they were remaking it. I saw the graphics and was torn. I love the older 8-bit graphics but at the same time it is so cool to see the newer take on the games I love so I can have the best of both worlds... Granted I do not have a 3DS and never will. Those things are a headache for me lol.
I heard they are grindfest games but most of the older games are and in my mind it just means more fun heh. The newer games end to quickly and while it lasts just long enough for you to get attached to characters you just... Not long enough gonk
But I have taken to grinding my newer games just to be able to play them longer even if it makes defeating the enemy easier in the long run which I suppose is good lol replaying and ending goodies like mirror enemies are the best. Games that have those make me happy inside even if I am like 'oh why me I totally just defeated the boss the game should be over' on the outside 4laugh

I actually enjoy grinding games. I've never been able to get into games that involving a lot of shooting (FPS and some others, for instance) because there's really not a lot of character depth. You just shoot things without once questioning anything you're doing, even if you are just killing terrorists before they kill you and millions of others. You aren't given a chance to connect with these characters because they'll be dead before you get to know them. With the few people you team up with in those games, there's hardly any character development so you don't really get to see into their lives all that much. I don't know why, but I don't like that. I want something a little deeper beyond a killing spree and useless one-liners.
Which is why I'm a huge fan of RPGs of all kinds. And one of the things that comes with RPGs is grinding. You need to get stronger to further the plot, so you go level up. And while doing so you can also access side quests that give character growth and development. You learn more about your allies and you grow to love them, to hate them, to laugh along with them, to cry with them, and so much more. As you grow stronger, your bond with these characters grow as you learn more about them. They give you so much more variety emotion than a shooting game. The games are also longer so you really are getting your money's worth.
Which is why I'm looking forward to the DQ VII remake if they release it here. And SMT x FE, as that's been declared an RPG by Index.

Welcome to the guild, Emmie and Dudeguy! Great to see more new faces!
In response to the grinding discussion, Dragon Quest in general tends to be a bit more grindheavy then most other RPGs. The old ones moreso, though you can play the Super Famicom or Gameboy Color remakes of the first three, which toned down the grinding a bit in addition to adding many other things (though of course there is still a fair amount of it). Grinding can be tedious, but if the encounters are decently challenging (which in DQ they tend to be) and I have a group with a variety of different options to use, I won't mind it as much. Though I still try to do as little grinding as possible. I like it when things feel difficult to accomplish, and when all that grinding pays off, it feels great. It's when it feels like easy tedium for the sake of itself that I call it quits.
