He thought about that for a moment then nodded. "Yeah, I think I know a place." He walked over and snatched the keys from her finger, their hands more than brushing lightly.

Man, the car did smell. He left the door open while he awkwardly tried to buckle himself in. One last breath of fresh air before the car started. At least they could roll the windows down.

Thankfully, the restaurant was only a few minutes away from the mall. It looked rather high end. It smelled of spices with a sweet hint of citrus. Of course Cal couldn't go in looking like she did. While she found something suitable from her new stash of clothes, Mau had secured them a table, and by the time she returned, they were seated. It was a secluded table near a wall The atmosphere was sophisticated, and perhaps a little movie-esque romantic. "Fancy enough?"

With a more than flushed face, Cal entered the car. She tried her best not to giggle at the man next to her fumble with his seatbelt. Her head remained as close to fresh air as possible during the ride.

Something that fit the mood clung to Cal's body, accenting her features. But hey, Mau had picked it out so it was appropriate. She smiled, eye a glow in the excitement. "I've seen better." She joked, taking the elegant menu in her hand. Everything looked delicious, she didn't know what to possible choose.... Well maybe that item that was hard to pronounce. It sounded absolutely delightful.

The waiter had come to make his rounds and after ordering, Cal and Mau were left with an awkward silence. She went out on a limb to make conversation, though it had been a question that weighed heavy on her mind. "S-so Mau," maybe she was just caught up in the atmosphere, "What do you look for in a woman?" She averted her gaze to the glass of water on the table.

Having spent all day shopping, and not having stopped for a drink, when the waiter left, Mau picked up the water goblet... and nearly dropped it at Cal's sudden question. Had she waited a moment longer, he might well have choked on the beverage. Hell, he might have inhaled the glass in his surprise. He quickly set it down and covered the lower half of his face. He was actually blushing just slightly.

"W... what brought that on all of a sudden?"

She seemed fixated on the water withing her goblet, picking it up coyly and taking a sip. "W-well..." She raked her brain for a good excuses. "I'm trying to impress this guy." What she was saying wasn't a lie, just not reviling all of the information. "And I need, um, advice." That seemed plausible. Mau wouldn't be suspicious, would he? She tried to calm herself hiding her flushed face behind the goblet, sipping slowly.

Mau slowly relaxed a little, not quite slouching back against his chair, but he kept his face covered a moment, not looking at Cal while he collected his thoughts. This could go very bad very fast. He tried to recompose himself and think. Well, he could... yes, he could list the traits he always found most attractive in his ex wife.

"Well... every guy has different tastes... I doubt what I like would be any help... But..." He closed his eyes, thinking. "I guess... I'm first attracted to women who are smart. A mental challenge is very stimulating." He remembered often getting into debates with his wife about genetic traits of pokemon and why sometimes they would learn moves from a parent that they would otherwise not know. Riveting conversations, those had been. "And they shouldn't be weak, and needing to rely on anyone for anything. that's not to say I don't enjoy seeing the softer, feminine side. Sometimes a guy likes to know his lady needs him to be strong for her."

Was he really saying this?

The poor girl's mood slightly went under. No way could she hold an intelligent conversation with Mau. She wasn't at the level of most. Just average she'd say. She placed her goblet back on the table and looked upon Mau thoughtfully. I'm not a weakling... Her thoughts stirred. I can handle my own. But when she was around Mau, she felt so small and insignificant; like anything she did would just be a screw up.

She mumbled something under her breath. "What if-" She seemed to be a bit frustrated coming up with the right words to say. "What if I can't be everything he likes?" Those words were course and bitter on her ears, as if she were crying out for him to say that he adored her, or admired her efforts. Now her eyes- a hit of sadness filled them- were unconsciously drawn to Mau.

"Don't try to be everything he likes." He said sternly. "Be everything you are." He finally looked back at her, staring at her with what might have been slight irritation, but might also have been a protective look. "You can't live your life trying to impress some guy. If you do that you'll lose what makes you special. Be who you are." He was trying to keep hos voice low so the others dining around them wouldn't stare.

He held her gaze a moment before his features softened. "Cal, you're a wonderful girl, and this guy should be flattered to have your affection."

When their eyes met, her sadness, her uncertainty melted away in that instant and she was content. Content in the fact that Mau did think highly of her. She held back joyful tears. "Thank you Mau." She broke eye contact with him to gather her courage. She was going to do it. She was going to tell him the he was the one he liked. "Mau, from the beginning I've actually-"

"You're meal madam." The wait moved in an elegant hustle as if sent to deliberately interrupt Cal's confession. She opened her mouth to talk again, but closed it a second after having lost that spark. "Thank you..." She whispered, more to Mau than the waiter as she began to dine on the meal. Not really tasting what she was eating.

He raised a brow at Cal when she began to speak. He was about to sigh if she finished that sentence. But the waiter entered, saving them both an embarrassing and probably awkward conversation that Mau didn't want to have, let alone have in public. It was a conversation they SHOULDN'T have to have.

It was understandably quiet while they were eating. And the ride home was equally as uncomfortable. Mau spent the majority of the ride staring out the window at the desert landscape. At least the smell had aired out from the sandwiches.

When the car was returned, Mau bid Cal a good night and retired to his room with what he'd bought. He did, after all, have work to do. He probably wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight because he was out for so long that day though.

With their day all done, Cal waved Mau goodbye. So did Tybalt who carried her bags behind her. When she made it up to her room, she laid everything out in a nice order on her bed and sorted them in to the according places. With that all said and done, all that was left was the box of hair dye. She looked it over, trying to read the dirty box. If that creeper hadn't been eyeing her, she would have gotten a new box.

"Hm..." she stared thoughtfully at the box trying to make out the words. "This shouldn't be too hard!" She smiled. Cal had no intention of going to sleep just yet, so she decided to use the mysterious hair product.

It didn't take her long to figure out what to do. She put the product in her hair, what she thought was an appropriate of time and continues with the steps. She returned, tired and puffy eyed, the day had caught up with her. The towel from her refreshing shower still remained on her head. She rubbed her eyes and laid on her bed, out like a light.

---------

Not more that a few hours later, Cal shot upright, breathing heard with tears flowing down her cheeks. It had been that nightmare again. She felt claustrophobic as the darkness encircled her. With a panicked flutter, she grabbed her robe and ran out her door, going to the closest comfort she knew.

She knocked, quite hurried on Mau's door- as if to hurry in from her own fears. "Mau?" Her voice was shaky and chocked with tears. "A-are you there?" A quiet hiccup escaped her lips as she grabbed the towel from her head to dry her eyes.

Mau had been sitting on his bed, a few papers spread around him and a book in his lap. He had a highlighter in his mouth and a pen tucked behind his ear. His glasses were half sliding down his nose, and he was dressed in a loose pair of pants, as if ready for bed.

At the knocking, Aki rolled his head to look at the door. He was using a certain tropius plushie as a pillow. Mau had to take a moment to move the papers aside, and set them, and the book, on the nightstand before going to the door, wondering who was knocking, and what was so urgent they had to knock now of all times. He opened the door, scratching his head a moment. "Nff?" Oh right, highlighter. He took the pen from his mouth. "Cal, what's wrong?" He held the door open, gesturing for her to come in.

Cal rushed in, drying her eyes. "I just..." She paused, muffled into the towel. Her body shook with each grief stricken hiccup. Her tears soon ceased and her body quit its convulsing. "It was all just a horrible nightmare." Though she knew it was more memory than anything. She lifter her face from the light colored towel, features turned livid from her crying. "I just.... Couldn't be alone right now, I'm sorry for barging in on you at this obscene hour."

She was about to dry her eyes once more when she spotted a big blue stain. "What the hell...." She turned her puffy eyes to look for a mirror, potting her reflection in the bathroom mirror. This refection looked so similar, but the girl in the mirror had a mess of muddy blue hair. "Dear Arceus...." She dropped her towel and ran to the mirror, pulling at her hair to make sure this wasn't some sort of trick. "T-this..." her voice cracked and whined, "This isn't happening...." She held her stained blue hands to her face and began to cry again.

He closed the door behind Cal and watched her as she cried into the towel. If she hadn't been in tears, Mau might have been prone to laugh at her. "A night-" He was cut off before he could say anything remotely comforting to her as she ran into the bathroom looking at her suddenly wildly blue hair. It was... an interesting change, and he thought maybe it was because of this that she had been upset about now. Blue hair with that bad a dye job would indeed be a nightmare.

Mau pinched the bridge of his nose before walking to the bathroom. "It's just hair." He said softly. "Come on now. It will wash out." Should he offer her use of his shower? Maybe...

"It'll wash out?" a hiccup caught in her throat. Would this blue die run away so easily? But it had stained her hands. She tore her blue stained hands from her face to see that the cheep dye was running. But how long did she have to get that gunk out? She turned and actually took in her surroundings.

"Could I use....." She stopped herself. Maybe asking to use his shower was pushing it? But she wanted to do something fast to make sure she'd get it all out. She gathered up her courage, trying again. "May I use you shower Mau?" He puffy eyes, blue hair, and stern expression were quite comical all wrapped into one. Like a child who had decided to toughen up after they had made their mistake.

He figured she'd ask after he assumed it'd wash out. "Yeah. I don't see why not." He pointed to a small stack of folded towels on a hanging rack. "Feel free to grab something from there." He was about to pat her head, but... well, maybe not. Instead he returned to his bed, pulling his book back onto his lap. Aki was staring at him.

"What?"

"Poor." He huffed.

"Go back to sleep then." Mau reached out and wound up the music box inside the tropius plush so it played for Aki. With it playing, Mau got back to work, and didn't even notice Cal come out of the shower till she spoke to him.
