*hugs Parable of the Talents* heart I agree whole-heartedly with this quote. You can't just rely on "god" to save you from things, you have to work through life. No matter what you believe, it won't do you any good unless you act upon it.

I love this one! Reminds me of some people I've known who have made exactly this mistake. Tends to create a stagnant, unchanging person who walks a path of self-destruction. Very hard to watch, especially if the person is a friend. sad

This relates back to the Goldsmith qoute
"You are as only as good as those whom you play" Personally I think that relates to everything from chess to fighting to life. But as stated before, I'm crazy.

Most of the time you won't know you've made a difference... most people don't give out thanks for this sort of thing You're right - we have much more of an effect on people than we realize. Understanding our actions and their effects can help us when dealing with others. And it's true that people don't often hand out thanks for this sort of thing - but if you watch them closely, you can see the difference you've made. Knowing that you've made a difference is often gratification enough. smile -Alezunde

Knowing that you've made a difference is often gratification enough. smile -Alezunde I've worked at summer camps for the past three years and I find this all to be especially true with kids. It's amazing in the ways that they can be influenced. Unfortunately there aren't always enough good influences as there are bad ones.
