Leave it to Shiro to have all the connections he needs. Which was all the better for her really.

"One of the reasons I started requesting private delivery," Shiro agreed. "The first time they sent me anything in the regular mail, it arrived in pieces. I wasn't impressed, and neither were they - somehow I managed to convince them to replace it free of charge."
Probably because he would have simply added it to his fee afterwards anyways.

Shiro was quite lucky, but then again Shiro was down right a genius.
"Out of curiousity what are your future research plans? For yourself, not for your clients."

Shiro blinked at Kali. "For myself?" he repeated. "Well, I guess it depends on which world you mean. Here, I'm mostly concentrating on projects for other people. I'm working on another DS game for Ura, and then I might see what I can do for other consoles ..."
He paused for a moment, then went on. "But what I really want to do ... I'm not even sure who suggested it, but I'd like to research the elves in Arda. They're so ... unique. Each country has a different look, a different type of magic ... and when the bloods mix, interesting things happen. It's so different from here. A blond and a black don't make mixed tones, they make either a blond or a black. It's so ... weird."

Of course she reminded herself Shiro was a genius among geniuses, if he could teach himself the violin he could teach himself to draw if he needed to.
"I remember Lin mentioning about the elves, she said she saw an elf with black hair with blond highlights once, and claimed it was natural."

Shiro sweatdropped. "I ... kind of roped Serenity into it," he admitted. "She doesn't mind doing a bit of art on the computer, but she really prefers the real thing. Still, she is amazing, and she's fast."
He paused a moment, then added, "And the promise of buying her all the art supplies she could ever need helped to bribe her to help me," he chuckled.
At her second comment, he slammed his fist down on the table - carefully. "That's what I mean!" he cried. "Their genetics are nothing like what I would expect! How often does it happen naturally that someone's hair is streaked like that? Highlights, sure, shades of the same colour - but two opposite colours?"

Kali thought about it, Gaians were a strange, strange bunch. They had hair colours of the rainbow, after all look at Iris, but in terms of genetics she was pretty sure well.. who knew what would happen if Iris had children. She was sure the kids hair would either be rainbow or look like mud.
"Not often," she admitted, "Black hair and oddly coloured hair are dominate genes and even then normally it would mingle... mix... but not obviously separate like that."

Amaya was back with their coffee and tea then, and since Kali hadn't mentioned how she wanted her tea, there was a small creamer and a few packages of sugar and sweeteners on the tray as well.
"Here you are," she said cheerfully, handing out the drinks. "Enjoy."
And just as quickly she was gone.

Shiro reached for his coffee and wrapped his hands around the mug.
"And that's why I need this ... flat touch computer," he said, the corners of his mouth twisting upwards in a smile as he tried to find a name for the thing he and Kali had come up with. "Because it's the only thing I could take to Arda that I will be able to rely on. My laptop would need recharging far too often, and everything else require permanent power."

"A computer in Arda," Kali chuckled.
She had only been there once, but once was enough to see how things were. Certainly that would be unusual... it amused her for some reason as she put in some cream.
"That is reasonable to need something light weight and long lasting... it will probably need a good check up every time you come home though. You know how electronics are, they age themselves..."

Shiro waved one hand dismissively. "If the back is removable, I can clean it," he told her. "But sure, if you want I can let you check it out every once in a while."
He sipped at his coffee. It was strong, and very tasty. He wondered briefly what brand it was, or if it was exclusive to this cafe. It was possible.

Taking a sip of the tea, Kali was pleased to taste the hint of citrus that was associated with the breakfast tea. She should suggest this to mother in the future.
"Ah.. I remember, I didn't ask how soon you'd want it. I know that it could only be a matter of a week or so before Kaito, Lin and Miyuki come back, but knowing Lin she'll only be visiting and I don't know if you want to join her or not."

"Well, I don't need to go with Lin, necessarily," Shiro shrugged, "so I'm not worried about that. But as soon as possible, if that's all right. I know you're busy, too. But to make it easier, so that I don't have to be gone as long with all the sea-voyaging, I was thinking of asking Obaa-san about making some more portals ... one each to Amon Darthir, Nauros, and the Westland. After getting permission from each country, of course," he added quickly. "It would just save that much time and effort with travel."
He tilted his head slightly. "And it would be safer. I haven't a clue how to use any weapon, and let's face it - my wings aren't meant for flying."

"You would still have to wait for Lin then," Kali pointed out, "Unless you get Triton to go with you. Since you need to ask anyways for permission and no one has been to the Westland as far as I know which means no portal can be made anyways until then."
And if Shiro didn't know how to protect himself, that would be difficult.

Shiro was puzzled. "I don't understand why," he said, leaning against the back of the booth. "If I leave from the ranch, I have many cousins who I'm sure would be willing to help me ... and there are many fighters there, and as I understand it, they are very nearly out of a job, what with the slavery issue being pretty much done with. And Ulrich makes frequent trips to the Westland ..."
He blinked. "Not that I would object to going with anyone else, I simply don't understand why I would have to."
