Well. A queen and a drama queen. Could male dragons be fops? He supposed so; they varied just about as much as humans so far as he knew. Still, he supposed they were a healthy looking trio? How should he know? He knew a good looking fish, and he knew what a healthy adult flitt looked like, and he'd seen healthy canines and small felines, but hatchling dragons were far beyond him... He couldn't imagine that the flighty blue would choose him, but he remained open to it all the same, and to the brown...

Remained open.

What was he talking about? He didn't really know. He was trying to think welcoming, but he didn't know if he was doing it properly. The candidate master had just said to stand with confidence and openness, but was there a trick he was missing on that score? He had no idea at all. Still, a boy in the stands had Impressed without any instruction on attracting a dragon at all...

Funny how he was suddenly quite concerned with Impressing. Smiling a little to himself at the infectious air of excitement, Kyros went back to studying the new dragonets with a special focus on the blue and the brown; the gold wouldn't be his so he saw no point in distracting himself with looking at her too much for now. Once it was all over one way or the other, then he could enjoy studying all the dragonets.

wait WAIT WAIT. BACK UP.

Ofelia's attention was fully pulled to the sands now the moment three eggs completely split open and three dragonets entered the sands, one of which happened to be the Queen that everyone was waiting so very long and very hard for. Her eyes drew wide in amusement over all their antics, the blue running like he was on fire to do something, the brown chuckling. The Queen seemed to just be irritated, probably because of the shell on her head (or some shell up her arse, Ofelia may have though), and the tanner found herself chuckling at the roar that was issued.

"Freshly shelled and already actin' like yer the best Gold out there? Ya remind me of Juno, ya silly little beastie. It may be a goodin' for ya ta get off yer high horse this early in."

There was a strong pinch to Ofelia's thigh and she whirled her head to look at her brother, the man's mouth set in a very deep frown. Apparently golds, no matter how haughty, were very serious business and even though she was in the stands and all she'd really need to watch what she was saying. That gold would likely be the future of the Weyr, she was told, and all the dragons here would be obeying it.

"Ya didn't have ta pinch me ya know. I coulda jus' been told ta shut mah mouth."

Her words were a mixture of a grumble and a snort, the tanner rubbing the spot she knew would bruise thanks to the skill behind her brother's pinches. The man was practically an artist at doing whatever it was he did to smoosh her skin to easily, and she frowned down at the sands to watch the rest of it unfold. Dragons were full of drama, but still pretty shardin' cool.

Moira smiled at Ofelia, charmed by the tanner's curiosity. Moira settled a hand on the girl's arm and pointed off towards the sands, about to point out the shaking gold egg. “She's just about to-” Moira began, but her words failed her after only a few syllables.

What had been only a trembling egg a moment before was now a bursting one, releasing the young queen onto the sands. Moira's heart felt as though it were beating in her ears now, as all of Trine – and the Benden Invaders – focused upon the tiny gold dragonet. Like Malvren before them, Trine had brought a new queen into Pern. Even in her frustration, knowing that she couldn't be on the sands for the little queen to choose, she was smiling from ear to ear. Even in the shadow of Alumanth's death, there was hope. Even silly as she looked with her little shell hat, nearly every eye in Trine was fixated upon her.

“She's beautiful,” Moira murmured to Ofelia, her voice sad but proud. For the blue she gave a wide grin, watching the little dragonet's antics and the young queen's retaliation. Only Ofelia's yelling tore Moira's attention away from the dragonet, and she gently pressed a pointy elbow into the tanner girl's side, “Newly hatched queens are known for mauling people, you know.” Moira gave a playful wink, and then her attention returned to the dragonets. Her eyes wandered from dragons to candidates, trying to guess who each of them might choose.

It was rather hard to keep an eye on everything when everything happened at once! THe eggs were popping apart like mad! Of course, the crown jewel of the Hatching had Hatched, regal even with the bit of shell on her head. There was a rather calm looking brown, and then of course there was the poor blue.

Either he was anxious to get away from the queen, or he was anxious to find his own, who knew. Jalarant felt bad for the poor little fellow. Poor boy, just calm down!

Optheli caught her breath as three eggs decided to pop almost all at once. The queen was beautiful, not to mention irritated, the blue definitely needy, and the brown calm. She couldn't wait to see who they attached themselves to.

Oh a brown! And a blue!

Kiipa stood tall and tried to watch the dragons, more focused on the blue than the brown, who without a doubt would go straight for the boys. It was hard to say where the blue would go but—the gold was hatching?! So early! No doubt, she was not the only girl who stared in clear awe at the queen that had just made her presence known. Golds had a definite presence; it was hard to say what about them that commanded such attention but whatever it was they certainly had it in buckets. This one was quite starkly marked too, but before the queen could enjoy her spotlight for long the blue pulled the rug from under her and took the spotlight for himself!

The girl had to cover her mouth to try and hide her giggles at his antics. What a silly dragon! Whoever got him had better have a good head on their shoulders lest the dragon make them do all kinds of silly things! She tried her best so somber up at the hatchling queen's bellow but the grin still remained. Honestly, what kind of dragon was afraid of a little sand? Sand had life and possibilities! As though to emphasize her mental train of thought she wiggled her toes in the hot stuff beneath her feet.

Only a dragon, who had to be clutched in the stuff, would be born hating sand.

Salin had to repress the urge to laugh, and would have been surprised if he were the only one, as the little queen's glorious moment of hatching went... slightly awry from how it might have been planned out for a Harpers tale. With multiple hatchlings now stumbling around, especially the frantic blue, the situation could easily turn much more serious, and someone could easily get hurt, but right at this moment, it was the laugh many people needed. He just hoped the little blue found his quickly, before any of the others became alarmed.

------------

Saekagi gawped in amazement as not one, but three dragons hit the sand in a tumble of shell fragments and chaos. It was an incredible moment to be sure, and even he couldn't help but perk up a little, smiling at the queen's frustration, and watching the blue and brown to see where they would go. Likely every boy on the sands right now was straining to see where they would go, and if they would impress.

Akaya was surprised, as no doubt all the crowd had been, when the bronze went into the crowd. It was a good thing he was a calm one then, it could've been disastrous for such a large hatchling and so many people squeezed in so tightly--but he knew where he was going, and he found His, who seemed to be a trader. One who'd found a bit more than he'd bargained for, Akaya thought with a grin (she was rather fond of the pun) but there was no question once their eyes met, the trader would be staying at the Weyr.

The green made for the boys, which shouldn't have surprised Akaya either, though for a moment there she'd forgotten entirely about male greenriders--silly of her to have, when she'd been brought to Trine by one! And she seemed to make her choice fairly quickly, to a boy whose overwhelming joy had him dropping to his knees. Akaya felt the slightest tinge of longing at the sight; now that she stood here on the Sands, seen the dragons hatch and Impression made--well, she could understand why some stood again and again and again, even if it was all for naught. Even the chance...!

Her attention was immediately captured by the next dragonets--three of them emerging out onto the Sands together. Not precisely together, she amended, the blue and brown had come first, though their golden sister had followed directly after. The blue seemed distressed, and the queen was not pleased her entrance had been spoiled--poor thing! Akaya could sympathize. How many times had one of her plottings for a grand entrance or spectacle been ruined by one of her pesky brothers? More often than not, that was the truth of it...

Still, the blue hadn't meant to cause trouble, she thought, and hoped he'd find His soon if only to escape the little golden queen's wrath.

His eyes snapped to the eggs as first one, then two, No Three eggs hatched close together. The last being the gold, who seemed upset that the blue had such a reaction to the sand. His eyes turned to the gold at her bellow. Saykiro couldn't help as he watched the blue more then the gold.

A soft chuckle escaped as he watch the blue. Poor thing looked like it just wanted to be cleaned of sand right now. "I hope you find Yours and doesn't mind cleaning you so much, little blue."

Well, that attracted La's attention, but once the Queen had decided it was time to get everyone's attention and La had given it, her mind wandered, gaze shifting to the little blue who was apparently throwing a hissy fit all over the Sands. One side of her mouth quirked up in a smile, and the gold dragon was forgotten as she focused on a colour she'd be much more likely to Impress. Hellooooooooo, little blue. And little brown, as well, she supposed, though she was just waiting for him to head over to the boys.

In the background, over the sudden thrum of excitement that came of discovering a Gold on the Sands, she heard a voice that could only belong to one person and laughed. Ofelia was shardin' loud. She almost hoped the queen would turn around and head right up into the Stands to give the girl a scare. But she didn't know anything about Ofie, if she was even the sort of person elligible for queen Impression. She had no idea. Glancing at Nasuymi instead, she quirked a grin.

"And no luck for the girls like us, eh?"

Liyar couldn't help a laugh- the dramatic queen's arival had been thwarted, and Liyar couldn't help but find that a funny thing to happen to such a commanding presence. It was the equivalent of seeing an Ambassador or something slip up in speech!

the brown that hatched, Liyar bit her lip - she couldn't help but feel fond of the dragon- after all, he was so very calm even if the dragons next to him were on extremer emotions. His calm presence made her smile, giving her a breif moment of calm from the sea of stress she felt.

The blue, well, he was silly-obviously unhappy as hell to be dirty! She couldn't imagine. She smiled, still excited and feeling still nervous- as the blue keened, Liyar wondered breifly if someone might help the dragon- but he didn't seem to need it.

Complaining loudly, the blue eventually righted himself and vigorously shook the sand from himself, eyes whirling red and orange and green, unable to settle. He was hungry! And he was dirty! And he wanted His! Where was His!?

Mewling, he glanced at the boys then sniffed, shaking his head in a clear dismissal. No, His was no where near there so instead, he began walking towards the girls - or it could have been walking had the good not gotten in under his toes and globbed against the pads, making him walk like a canine with booties on.

He flailed and padded and warbled his way through the girls, keenly appraising them with a definitively intelligent gaze. This one wasn't stupid, but his buttons had certainly been pressed!

And while the blue flailed about, the brown creeped towards the boys, head low gaze intense. He was a big brown, long and lanky and powerfully built and a wonderful catch for whatever boy he settled on, for his path took him straight into the ranks. His was here somewhere... he needed only to find His.

And the Queen... the Queen was most displeased! Crying again, she urged her clutchmates to find theirs quickly so she could have her pick. Really... demanding a pick of boys and girls? That was ridiculous! Still, she eyed the boys critically before moving away to inspect the girls. Hers was here... but she wasn't readily apparent.

Galvanth, drat the Bronze, was humming low in his throat the way they always did when a Queen hatched. This was their way of greeting a future mate, and though he was not a Trine dragon, he paid the little Gold that respect. S'raid snorted at his dragon's antics, but his eyes too were glued on the newly hatched dragonet. He ignored the other two, of course. With a Queen on the Sands, what importance could there be in a Blue and a Brown? No, this Impression would be critical. There was a great deal at stake here, more than he cared to say. Who she chose would become one of a select few Goldriders. That was significant. Though she would not be Weyrwoman unless something happened to Brakiath or her rider, or the pair chose to step down.

His lips firmed into a fine line, and he watched the little dragonet, considering her. She had all the usual haughtiness of a Gold. That was to be expected. But would her rider prove worthy? Only time would tell. A faint smile showed on his cold features, for he had seen that egg shell hat. Silly dragonet, so sure that she was above all of them, but so new and fragile. So unable to even present herself with the dignity which she so obviously desired. She is dignified, Galvanth defended, instinct guiding him in protecting the little Queen who was still glistening with egg fluid.

Yes, Galvanth. Of course she is. Of course she was.

---

If Malina had been awed by the Bronze and the little Green that had followed, it was nothing compared to this. When faced with the newly hatched Queen, the Brown, and the Blue, Mali was at a loss for what to say. Her jaw had dropped, and she stared at the pretty creatures, absolutely enchanted. It was much more fun to delight in a Hatching than to be overcome with sadness. But it caused some fairly similar problems-- or at least the same problems any wealth of emotion created of Mali. Excitedly, she tried to stand on her tiptoes to see better, and she found herself in very real danger of losing her balance. Somehow, she had shuffled in behind someone, and she couldn't quite see--

Which led her to falling right on her rear end. Oh dear. Picking herself up hastily, she tried to look as though it had never happened at all. 'You didn't see that', said her expression, an embarrassed flush on her cheeks. And then... and then there was a Blue right there. With wide, black eyes, she observed him, scarcely remembering to breath. In the confusion, she was right back up in front where she had started. She wanted to reach out and try to touch, but that probably would have only confused the poor beastie.

The poor Queen looked so off-put at the shenanigans of her hatchling mates! Jalarant shook his head a bit, still stunned to look at her. She was beautiful! He could see why all the girls had their eyes glued to her. And she'd likely demanding, and getting, all the attention until she chose Hers and left the sands.

Then the poor, crazed Blue went for the girls, and the Brown for the boys, and Jalarant couldn't quite focus on the queen when there was a Hatchling so close! He was a big, beautiful fellow, after all. Someone would be leaving very happy!

His chuckle got louder as he watched the blue walk towards the girls. He sighed inside. Saykiro knew that it would be hard work keeping that one happily clean.

His eyes turned towards the brown that moved towards them. He held his breath as the young dragon moved in, looking for His.

Saykiro's eyes darted up at the little Queen and smiled. "Soon little Queen you will get your spotlight like you want."
