Sinec the topic of copyright has come up, and the subsequent thought of Squeenix pulling an Anne Rice job, I'm interested to note that several interviews (posted throughout www.adventchildren.net) quote (I'm gonna paraphrase here) that they really have little faith in the US market when it comes to anything FFVII related.
Um... hello?? I would kill my own family just to be able to go see the full sized Sephiroth statue. How rude you underestimate me and my mighty American Dollar. So what... one of mine equals 1100 of yours? XD

So yeah, no fear of that ever coming to pass... besides, with the number of Doujinshi producers they have already in JP, it would be a big ruckus if they ever were reprimanded.

As for copyrights and stuff, I always figured it was okay so long as it's non-profit. I mean, I don't see Square Enix getting after all of the fan-artists out there, nor pulling an "Anne Rice". I can see, however, a popular webcomic (Such as 8-Bit Theatre) or that 3D version of Chrono Trigger that people were trying to make a while back as substantially larger infringements of copyright law (Because these are things SE can make money off of). But a couple chibis of Aeris & Cloud in a free school paper? Hmm.
