With the bright morning light,
I realize that today, too, I'm all alone.
However, after a shower and some make up,
my flushed red eyes and yesterday's tears won't drag me along anymore.

She couldn't help but smile at what he said. Hanabi was a very likeable person and it was true, she wasn't surprised that her family and friends would miss her. But she wondered the same thing Max did. If they had known each other before she died, would he have missed her? Would she had ever talked to him after she died?

Seeing him blush at her touch made her feel a little shy. When she felt his hand on her, the butterflies began to stir in her non-existent stomach and she blushed herself. For some reason, Hanabi believed that they could make physical contact with each other. She wouldn't have to go through him, and he wouldn't have to go through her.

Waving him over to the kitchen, she went inside the fridge, only to find nothing. Going inside the cabinets, she still found nothing. Well, she found some instant ramen. So much for that recipe. Floating over to him, she pointed to the pantry, and then a cabinet.

"All I could find was instant ramen and a pot. So, I guess that's dinner. Better than nothing, right?" she said with a smile. Tomorrow, they would go to the grocery store, one that Hanabi went to all the time. It was an Asian market, sure, but they still sold American products. Max seemed to like the Asian culture, so it would be alright for both of them.

Max chuckled a little, seeing Hanabi blush at him before she headed off toward the kitchen. He followed and watched her rummage around looking for food, making him laugh, he had forgotten about getting food. "It is better than nothing, groceries completely slipped my mind!"He laughed at himself and looked at the Ramen noodles, he liked them, but hadn't had them in a long time. "I like Ramen noodles anyway."He smiled and took the ramen noodles from the cabinet and grabbed the pot, filling it with water her clicked on the stove and starred at the flame under the pot, zoning out, the site of the flame sending him back to the night of the fire. He could practically see his mother in the small flame, reaching out to him, telling him to get out. His sister's crying. He felt tears start to well up but he blinked, snapping out of it and rubbing the back of his neck. "I haven't used a stove in a long time.."He muttered, giving a nervous laugh.

He turned the noodles around, looking to see what flavor they were "Shrimp...I always had the chicken one. Oh well, never bad to try something new."He waited for the water to bubble before putting in the noodles. "Shoot...Do we even have silverware?"He looked around and saw they didn't making him sigh he went to his box of things, rummaging around. "Ah! I have chopsticks, I can just eat it out of the pot."He grinned, standing up and clicking the chopsticks together, his aunt through marriage had been from Japan and she taught him and his sisters to use chopsticks. She was the one that got him into anime as well, she had moved back to Japan a long time ago though, with her husband, his uncle. Making his way back to the kitchen he pushed the noodles around with his chopsticks and looked to Hanabi "Is there a grocery near here?"He had no idea, he had always went out to eat, his father took care of himself for the most part.

Hanabi giggled as he clicked his chopsticks. She wasn't expecting him to have chopsticks in his box, but then again, she hadn't expected that he'd live in her old apartment. Hanabi watched over his shoulder as he cooked the noodles. It had been so long since she had made ramen noodles. Instant ones at the least. When he looked at her, she nodded her head.

"It's an Asian market that I used to go to. They have some of the best cream puffs there," she said, licking her lips at the thought of them, and grinning. Whenever she could, she would ride her bike to the market to pick up a cream puff. Whether it be as late-morning breakfast treat on the way to school, or just because she felt like one, she loved the cream puffs there. In fact, she loved the entire market! Fresh produce, a delicious cafe, a warm bakery, and it was always full of the things she wanted. Hanabi could've lived in that market.

Humming to herself, she began to look around the kitchen again. They would probably have to buy some silverware, a few more cooking utensils and, obviously, food. It would all fit in here, and as long as he was clean, there would be still be a lot of space. Turning around, she smiled at him, and floated back to him.

"Shrimp flavor? Hmm...Itsuki must've moved out last. That was his favorite flavor," she said with a nod. Her favorite was a tie between the beef flavor and the chicken flavor. It really depended on how she felt. When it was unusually dark in the neighborhood, then chicken flavor; it was bright, but cold, outside, then the beef flavor. Hanabi continued to hum as she watched him cook, looking up at him and giving him a smile every now and then.

Max raised an eyebrow, clicking off the stove when the noodles softened and emptied the packet of flavor inside, mixing it. "An Asian market? I've never been to one, but I hope they have imported candy, I love foreign candy."He smiled, seeing how fond she was of the place, he was excited. "You know, I don't have to go into the library tomorrow, we could go to the market and then get some stuff to decorate the apartment, sound like a plan?"He like the idea, and he defiantly needed food and silverware, cook books, things that he wouldn't have thought about until the last minute like now. "I don't think i've ever had a cream puff...now that I think about it."He muttered, starring off a little when he said it, trying to remember if he had or if he really hadn't. Had he? No, he didn't think so. "Mmnope, I haven't. I'll have to buy some."

He picked up the pot when it was cool enough to hold and twirled some noodles to his chopsticks, eating happily. They actually tasted pretty good. "Me and Itsuki have something in common."He muttered, after swallowing. He heard her humming again and wondered if she liked to sing, she was certainly a musical person for her viola. He pushed at his noodles, glancing up at Hanabi through his hair. "Hana, do you like to sing?"He asked, the tinge of curiosity in his voice. He sang a lot when he was on his own, in the library while he worked by himself, in his room after his father had passed out. He got it from his mother, and like that he had at least something from her. He got his eyes from her too, but it made him sad to see that his weren't full of soul like they used to be when he was younger, or like his mothers always were.

For some reason, when Max had offered to go out tomorrow, Hanabi's dead heart beagn to beat again. Was that like...a date? Smiling, she nodded her head. Of course it sounded like a plan! The ghost girl wasn't exactly sure what she would've done, if she hadn't talked to Max. Probably mope around, and creep people out like she had before.

"Of course! I can show you where they keep all of the good food. Oh, oh, I can show you the furniture store next to it. Wait...is there a furniture store next to it? I think so," she said, giving a small giggle. She, too, was excited. Hanabi had a feeling that they were going to have a lot of fun together tomorrow.

At his question, Hanabi grew nervous. She started to fiddle with her fingers, her hair, and an embarrassed blush covering her cheeks.

"Eto...well...ano...I-I guess, but it's not like I'm any good," she said. If Max was the avid anime watcher he says he was, he would have noticed that the pitch of her voice had dropped, matching Konata Izumi's, from Lucky Star, perfectly. Her voice tended to do that when she got nervous. Plus, it was easy for her to change the pitch of her voice. She and Itsuki used to do prank calls all the time, and because she could do several voices, it was always funny.

Max smiled softly, seeing she liked the idea of going out with him tomorrow. Wait, going out. That sounded weird, it wasn't a date. Right? Of course not, they weren't like that. Were they? They were living together...No, no! He blushed at the thought and glanced away. Dating Hanabi? Would that even work, certainly it couldn't, she was a ghost, someone who passed through him for the most part. He hated to admit it, but the thought made him sad, he liked Hanabi, and no matter if they liked each other or not, it wouldn't have worked. "That sounds great, i'm looking forward to it." He broke himself of the thought and looked up, seeing what she had to say about his question and bit his lip to her reaction. He almost dropped his chopsticks.

"K-kawaii..."He whispered the words, keeping from biting at his swollen lip. He felt an urge he had never felt before to kiss her, just once, and it turned his entire face red, making his ears hot. He didn't know what had brought it on, and he wouldn't have even been able to accomplish it, but the thought had sprang into his mind so quickly he had no time to stop it. He could never. He smiled at her, pushing away the thought to the back of his mind, as to not embarrass himself any further. "I'm sure your fine."He ate some of his noodles, trying to get his mind on anything else, not wanting to do something stupid. "I want to hear you sing, not right now, but one day. I'll sing with you too."He gave her a thumbs up, and a grin. Like an I will if you will deal. He didn't sing in front of people often so it would be a treat to see what she thought and he could hear her.

The fact that Hanabi was considering this as a date made her both excited and a little sad. She was a ghost that couldn't move on; he was a human who had the rest of his life to live. She liked him. She liked Max a lot. Even if they shared the same feelings for each other, she knew that it would never work out. Unless someone were to trap her into a body, or if he were to die himself, then it couldn't work out. The thought made her dead heart clench.

When she saw his entire face turn a bright red, even his ears, Hanabi tilted her head. She was confused. What did she do that made his whole face red? Was it her answer? She didn't hear him mumble how "kawaii" she had been; in fact, she was still trying to figure out why his face was red. Hanabi wanted to ask, but decided that it was best not to. After all, the sight of him red was a big enough treat!

He wanted to hear her sing. He sang himself. The fact that he did made her face feel hot, and she had to bring her hands up to her cheeks. She always found a guy with some sort of musical talent attractive. It seemed like Max was getting better and better.

"O-Okay. B-But don't blame me if the windows crack!" she said. The blush began to spread all over her cheeks, and she began to play with her hair again. What was it that was making her so nervous around him? Could it be her feelings for him?

Okay, cracking a window, that made Max burst into a laugh. "Cracking a window would be quiet the feat itself. I would proud you on it, even if I had to buy another window."He chuckled, finishing off his food before licking his lips and cleaning out the pot and putting it back in it's place. He cleaned the small mess from the package and threw it away, placing the chopsticks on the counter. He rubbed at his neck, popping it hoping it would help, but it didn't. It was just sore. He saw Hanabi playing with her hair again and chuckled, shaking his head. "Don't worry about it, okay? I won't put you on the spot or anything, but if I start randomly singing, feel free to join me."He winked at her, walking around her and to his box, looking for his fan. He really like the cold, so he didn't mind Hanabi's touch, but he did need a fan for when he slept. He pulled it out and then went to the air conditioner, turning it to a colder temperature.

He stretched, holding his fan over his head and smiled at Hanabi "It's getting late, and we have a fun day tomorrow, so I want to get enough sleep so we can have as much fun as possible."He smiled at her, walking into what would be his bedroom after he decorated it. They had left the couch but he would have to buy a bed. So, he grabbed his box and his bag, taking into the room and pulling out his blanket and pillow and laid it on the ground, remembering Hanabi said she slept on the couch most of the time. He didn't even know if she slept, but he had slept on the floor for the most part at home, so one more night wouldn't hurt. He slipped off his shirt, seeing his cut had bled just a little and he frowned, oh well. He would buy a little bit of wrapping for it on their trip tomorrow. He blinked, and rummaged through his backpack, pulling out his toothbrush and toothpaste, almost having forgot to brush his teeth he made his way to the bathroom, doing that and then giving Hanabi another smile over his shoulder. "Goodnight Hana."He kept the light on in the living room, in case she wanted to stay up, but flipped off the one in his room, only slightly closing the door to his room in case she needed anything. With a last sigh he turned on his fan, laying down and getting comfortable, letting himself drift to sleep.

"Oyasumi nasai." Hanabi smiled as he went to bed, and then began to wander around the apartment. Being a ghost, Hanabi never needed sleep. But, because she seemed tired today, she figured that she would sleep. Entering the room that he had taken, she saw that he had taken the floor, and frowned. Why had he taken the floor instead of the couch?

Hanabi didn't want to wake him up, so that she could have him move to the couch. So, she floated to the couch, and slept on it. Well, she actually floated close to it, but it looked like she could have been laying on it. It had been a while since Hanabi had laid down and actually tried to sleep. So, she closed her eyes, and gave a small sigh. Eventually, her mind was put to some rest, and she dreamed of the fun day that was to come the next day. She slept, the rest of the night, with a smile on her face.

Max rolled over on the floor, blinking, for a moment not remembering where he was. Then yesterday hit him and he chuckled, the whole thing seemed ridiculous but if it wasn't true he wouldn't have been where he was. He sat up, running a hand through his hair and wincing, his side giving him a slight pain, and he looked down, it was pretty bruised up around the area. He stood up and made his way quietly to the bathroom, seeing Hanabi was asleep on the couch and not wanting to wake her. Bruises didn't show up till the day after or at least hours afterward and now he had some along his torso, from being thrown around, and on his arm from being grabbed. That was attractive. He sighed, poking at them to see how sensitive they were, very. Heading back to his room he thought it was worth it, he was alive, and he was free. Grabbing some clothes he made his way to the bathroom and turned on the water, feeling the need for a shower, to wash away the things he had dreamed about. It was a short shower and he came out feeling better, but he would need to buy shampoo too, luckily he had his own but it wouldn't last to long.

He dressed himself, glad his eye looked a little better, and yawned stepping out of the bathroom. He would let Hanabi wake up on her own, not wanting to disturb her he wondered if there was a laundry mat in town, not having a washer and dryer. Making his way into his room he folded up his clothes and put them in the corner, figuring he would as Hana about it later. He grabbed his guitar, setting it against the wall and started sorting things out of his box, finding a few boxes of his Japanese candy he grinned and popped a fruit drop in his mouth before setting it aside and starting to unload everything else.

It didn't take long for Hanabi to wake up. Even though she was a deep sleeper, she could hear the shuffling of Max and his things. Stirring in her sleep, she slowly woke up, and sat up. Stretching her arms, she saw Max sorting through his things and smiled.

"Ohayou gozaimasu," she said, her voice as cheerful as one's could be after sleeping. Giving a yawn, and stretching again, she floated over to his side. Hanabi saw quite a bit in his box. She saw his Japanese candies, a few books, some clothing, and a little more.

"Did you sleep well?" she asked, tilting her head. Hanabi didn't want to mention that she found him sleeping on the floor, but she figured that he was going to find a bed today.

Max looked up from his things, hearing Hanabi and gave a small way "Good morning to you too."He chuckled, he wasn't to used to Japanese, but he knew some common things. He nodded, stacking up some books near the wall, he would need a bookshelf too. Just adding it to his list of things. "Yeah, that's the best i've actually slept in a long time."He chuckled, how true it was, was weird. He had slept on the floor in a mostly empty apartment, still had nightmares, and it was the best sleep he'd had in a long time. He stood up, stretching once more "What about you?"He asked, eying her, he fixed his shirt. He didn't even know what time it was. Clock, added to list. "Hana, is there a laundry mat around here?"He asked, not wanting to have a pile of dirty cloths all the time. When he thought about living alone, it made him wonder what would happen to Hanabi.

After she reclaimed her memory, would she be able to pass on? Even after that, what would he do after she did? So far she had been the only friend he'd had in a long time, would he just go back to how things were? No, he had managed to get away from his father. Would that really make a difference? He had been the same way for so long, it made him wonder if he would be able to break out of his shell, and find someone to talk to. In reality, he hadn't even meant to meet Hanabi, it just happened. When she was gone, he just hoped he wouldn't revert back to being alone all the time. That in itself would have ruined what he had already accomplished.

With the bright morning light,
I realize that today, too, I'm all alone.
However, after a shower and some make up,
my flushed red eyes and yesterday's tears won't drag me along anymore.

Hanabi pursed her lips slightly as she thought about how she slept. Usually, she didn't sleep, since she didn't see a reason for it anymore. So, she gave a small shrug.

"Well, I guess. It's the first time I've slept in a while," she said. She started her usual routine of humming, and twirling, when she heard his question about a laundry mat. Hanabi's lips were pursed once more. Was there one close by? Or was there one in the apartment building. She gave a troubled sigh, and scratched her head.

"I...think there's one in the building. There might be one in the area too. I don't remember," she said, giving a small frown. She remembered having a washer and a dryer, but maybe her mother took it when she left? Hanabi couldn't be sure. Wandering around the apartment, she continued humming, and twirled around a little more. She seemed hyper today, or maybe she was just excited. A whole day out with Max seemed like a lot of fun; Hanabi had to keep herself from thinking it would be a date. But somehow, she got to thinking about what would happen after she got her memory back. Would she have to move on? She would miss him a lot, but would he miss her? The thoughts made her bit her lip nervously, so she shook her head, and twirled a little bit.

"Are you going to eat soon? I think there's a diner by here. They serve some of the best blueberry waffles!" she said with a smile.

Maybe I am crazy and my mind is trying to deceive me.
As the ground vanishes I wonder; will the sky be the next to fail me?
Paint abandons canvas.

Max rose an eyebrow at her, so she didn't usually sleep, that didn't shock him entirely. "Well it's good you slept then."He sent her smile and watched her hum and dance around the room, making him laugh a little to himself. He nodded, pursing his lips himself "Well, I guess we'll just have to see. I'll ask the girl who's in charge of the apartment's when were done."He was thinking of maybe just asking someone randomly, it would help him branch out a little, but the girl who gave him the apartment seemed a little more friendly. Hearing her mention eating he smiled "Yeah, we have a big day so breakfast is a good idea!"He ruffled his hair, seeing how damp it was before shrugging it off, it seemed okay to go outside without getting a cold.

"That, and it's only sprinkling, so I might not even have to use the umbrella."
For a moment, he felt purely happy, and he liked it. It felt great. He grabbed his shoes and slipped them on "What do you say we get something to eat and then you can show me around? I'd love to get this place into a livable condition."It was livable yes, but a bed and food would have been nice, and silverware. "Plus, blueberry waffles sound really good."He licked his lips and headed outside, not bothering to open his umbrella as he waited for Hanabi to join him.

And my
brush can't seem to start again from scratch.
As I watch everything unravel, why should I even try to stop the collapse?
I won't...

Smiling, Hanabi followed Max out the door. She noticed that he didn't bring his umbrella, and looked outside. It was only drizzling. she continued to smile; of course. On this side, the rain was light. If you were lucky, you might get an afternoon of sunshine. But that was only if you were lucky.

"Okay, then! Follow me," she said. Floating ahead of him, Hanabi would float backwards, flip a few times. She probably felt as happy as he was feeling. Every now and then, her nonstop humming would give way to soft singing, but one would have to be incredibly close, if they wanted to hear it. Hanabi may be outgoing, but she could shy if she wanted to. Couldn't anyone?

"Where are we going after breakfast? To the market or the furniture store?" She wanted to know what they were doing today. Perhaps something might trigger a memory or two. Her thoughts went back to her earlier ones about leaving, but she just shook her head again. Hanabi didn't want to leave Max. She was glad that she had chosen to talk and follow him.

"Ne, ne, what are your hours at the library?" she asked curiously. She had another Konata impression up her sleeve, but this one wouldn't be accidental.
