She shrank behind him a little, feeling bad that she couldn't make up her mind. "Surprise me?" she said in a small voice, curling her tail around her for security

"All right. And, ehm...it's okay, you know." Wikus attempted to be reassuring. He then turned his attention to ordering: a vanilla ice cream sandwich for Inibi to play it safe, and a fudgesicle for himself. Luckily, the trade of currency wasn't a problem. He handed the wrapped item to Inibi, hoping she'd like it.

She watched as the little exchange occurred. Both of the items he ordered sounded perplexing, and even when she was handed with the one called "ice cream sandwich" she was puzzled. She sniffed it, and could smell the vanilla through the wrapper, so she slowly removed it, surprised at what she was seeing. Still she took no hesitation as she took a bite of the sandwich, immediately satisfied with the way it tasted
"Ooof...It'f Dehlifiou" she said through a mouthful of the sandwich icecream

Wikus smiled around his chocolate popsicle that he had stuck in his mouth(unwrapped of course) a few moments prior. He was relieved that she liked it, and of course happy. When not sucking on it, he said "That's great."

She quickly ate the whole thing, feeling no effects from the brain freeze and watched as he licked the dark colored Popsicle. She wanted to make light conversation, but she wasn't sure where to start. She couldn't help but look at his hand, but not in a creepy way, but more so in fascination. She suddenly wanted to be changing into whatever those things were with him, but she wasn't sure why.
"So..you..were human. What..did you do at your...." she paused to try and think of what his job was again, but she failed miserably and just ended up trailing off

Wikus would of course notice the staring at his hand. It always gave him an urge to hide it, out of embarrassment and anger at himself to not be able to do something about it. But for now he could just leave it limp.
"I was human, yes." Then he listened to Inibi trail off. "What did I do at my what? My job?"

She tried to avert her gaze after sensing some of his discomfort, but was unable to do so. She was just far to fascinated by it
"Yes..your job. I wasn't sure if you had mentioned it before, but what did you do?" she was a little ashamed that she couldn't think of what he did or any of that, but at least the conversation could be held

Oh lordy. His job. Wikus wet his lips when the popsicle could no longer do so. "I should not sugar-coat this, eh?" he sighed. "You're nice, much nicer than you probably should be with me. I told you about MNU, right? Right. I, eh...I worked for MNU once. Isn't that great? The people who want to kill me now. I worked with the prawns, kind of. 'Human and alien affairs'. I suppose it is more of 'keeping the species seperate affairs'. Especially the day we had to evict them. We had to go and do that, along with...well...kill any creature that became hostile, and leave those who would not comply to die. And..." He didn't seem to know either what to say next or if he should, stuttering and supplying words and trailing off. Eventually, the halfbreed whispered, "We had to abort any eggs we found. At least protocol said we did, and we did it- I did it. Gladly." He looked at the ground. It would only be a matter of time before she reacted negatively. That was the only possible response, right?

She listened and was afraid from his first words of not needing to sugar coat. She listens and as he continued to get further and further into his speech, she found her paw covering her mouth. Then there was that dreaded pause. What was he going to say now? But she wasn't prepared for the words that followed
As soon as the sentence was finished, she had to stop and think about it. As soon as she realized he gladly killed alien babies she couldn't help but gasp and feel both of her paws over her mouth, her eyes between concern and absolute sadness. "You...killed...babies?" she said through her shock and the tears starting to well up in her eyes, with markings now fading to a depressing dark blue

"Well, two, yes. In a technical sense for the rest, no. I called in the squad that set the shack on fire, though. All I did for it was remove wires from an egg for the abortions, but does that matter?" Probably not. Wikus saw her face and her eyes and felt very, very ashamed of himself. "This is karma, eh? This hand and infection or what you wish to call it. Kill them and abuse them and become one. It kind of makes sense... Maybe I should leave this place and let myself become one of the creatures. Maybe I would forget..." It was nonsense and lunacy, purely, and he needed to stop before he really wanted to do these things. He smiled then, sadly and bitterly. "I don't know what I am anymore. It is a strange existance... I want to be a monster, like I was. I don't want to be that. I don't want to be a prawn. Yet I eat raw meat and fokken cat food. But for anything I want from my past, I have to be the monster, like everyone else around me were. At the same time...What is happening to my arm...my shoulder...." he shook his head. "That is too much for me." Or was it too little? Wikus looked up at Inibi then. "Do you stand me now?"

She watched in confusion and horror, while he continued to elaborate. Eventually that horror slipped away as she felt she couldn't be mad at him, or for that matter much else. her paws moved from her mouth and her markings shifted to a teal color. All the while she sat and remained to listen despite all the confusions she had.
"Well. Whatever you do now....I guess can't matter or effect your past? I mean...Here you are and your safe. You remember your past and although you say you want to go back to it, I can sense you don't..because...well...why would you?" she remained empathetic and concerned in her gaze, but now she would rather see him stay and be lost than go back and be a monster.
"Why would anyone who can see it, want to be a monster again? It's not about how you look, but how you act. And there are plenty here who are willing to accept you....including..me" she said half ready to get up and walk away, but she remained anchored to the ground, trying hard not to think of him as a monster

"I know that, I do, but..." He remembered Tania. His parents. His friends, or what he thought to be his friends. His life: a fine life, a happy marriage, good relations with his parents. Everything he thought he could ever want, considering the reports of broken lives and parenting. "It was my life. A happy but...ignorant. Is that the word? Life. Ignorant life. Who wouldn't want that?" Wikus raised his non-mutated hand and wiped some sweat from his brow. "I cannot go back to it, though, eh? I suppose..." It was crushing, but what else could he do? They would rather harvest him than help him if he returned, even if Tania and his friends WERE there for him. "But I do not know what I could do if I stayed here. If it was for a long time."

"Well.." she admitted. There was nothing better than living a life of ignorance. She was no exception. She lived one at this very moment. But she was also an exception to that because she knew nothing at all of her past when she landed. For all she knew, she could have been just like him, even with the transformation, but how could she ever know.
"Sometimes...we have to accept what happens. Even if it does mean we are leaving something cherished behind. Knowing is sometimes not the best thing in the world, but you know now that you are safe where this MNU can't get you right?" she tried now to get him to accept the new life he had. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she figured it would be her first step in 'curing him'

"Y-yes." At least he SHOULD be. Wikus hoped it was the case, but he was still scared, paranoid, after everything. "It seems better at this place than District 9 anyway. Well, maybe it actually is." He corrected himself. "Ehm...so are you...eh...you are okay with all that?"

"Well...I'll be honest..I'm not happy with the fact that you'd rather go back to the way you were, but...I can't change a person" she admitted looking away from him, unsure of what exactly what his reaction would be. "But otherwise, I don't see anything wrong"
