For a moment the bottom lip of a quite petulant pout seemed about to part ways so she could argue him into a bet now, but she went in another direction with a sudden change of mind. Arms dropped, slightly defeated. "A drink for now is fine then.." she murmured, knowing that the rest of this night would probably end with her nightmarishly drunk and nothing interesting to talk about the next day.

The rumble of Kichiro's voice made her pause for a second. "Oh!" She closed her eyes with a look of reprieve and turned around smiling. Facing him she received the glass of champagne, an elegant touch to compromise his tardiness. She didn't hesitate to have a little sip.

"You're a darling." She said, eating up the flattery appreciatively, a delicate little smile on her soft mouth. "Did things end well?" she asked, a touch of concern in the lilt of her voice.

She could see he was wondering who her company was. Honestly she couldn't answer the question any better than he could.

Joseph would disregard his own comment and down his shot in an instant slamming his glass onto the table.
“Brother, care to win Ten G’s in a drinking contest?”

"Seyumi." He said softly, allowing for her eyes to meet his. How he'd managed to get in her way without being seen was one of those mysteries vampires had a knack for creating. It was almost as if he was just in the right place at the right time. "If you aren't in a hurry, I'd like to ask you to dance." He explained, his eyes locked onto her face. While he wore the mask of nobility, he knew she knew the monster within his flesh.

"I understand if you're intimidated." He challenged, his mouth forming a mischievous smile. "But I promise, I won't bite."

A chuckle then, and his elbow bent, his hand lowering as his palm turned upwards in a disarming gesture. This served two purposes. One, it cleared the path for the girl to leave should she choose, and two, it made it clear that he favored his right hand, and that if she accepted, he would be holding her own hand with his right and putting his left on her back.

It was an understatement to say that the cleric was surprised by the sudden appearance of a hand in her path and the sickening aura that twisted off the inviting limb. She was shocked both mentally and physically at his sudden appearance and the closeness of his malevolent form made her skin crawl... But then she remembered herself and her manners. And the fact that if he sliced into her flesh and caused a drop of her blessed blood to fall it would burn straight through his infernal sack of flesh he called a body just like the last time they'd danced.

Debating her options for a moment as she composed herself and wiped the shock and disgust off her face, the White Mage answered the vampire by putting her white gloved hand in his.

"Just one dance then. I'm sure you know how to tango, correct?" Raising a pair of smiling eyes up to look at her unexpected dance partner and half wondering if he was going to tear her apart then and there, Sey searched his gaze to try and find the spark of good that was inside his soulless shell; that had to exist somewhere in there.

All the while she was ignorant of the fact that anyone would have been staring at the unlikely couple in the center of the ballroom, their auras as opposite as day and night with the contrast even more evident with their close proximity.

'Avaline's diamond dust...hmm...how come I've never seen a lady do that?' Kichiro thought to himself for a moment, reflecting on all the attention he'd had at random formal events and ceremonies. There were certainly women that had such sparkles 'pon their dresses and even in their make-up, however not the way this blacksmith used it. Apparently the architect of beauty in weaponry, was not so-unskilled in the architecture of physical beauty in flesh either.

Shaking his head, Kichiro dismissed his momentary hypnotization by the sparkling on Avaline's dress. It was obvious that Kichiro was no longer occupied with his professional life and completely into his date.

"Yes, it all ended well..." Kichiro chuckled a bit, "my people are quite trained to handle such situations..."

'I'm immune to alcohol...' Kichiro lamented as Joseph turned to him, asking him to take the bet, 'I've fought with my inability to be inebriated for so long...oh well, he doesn't know that.'

The cheat

The manipūra's tie to control, keeps chi constantly flowing through Kichiro that gives him complete and utter control of his body and mind/spirit. This defends against telepathic abilities, paranormal abilities and foreign substances that would seek to hijack his self-control or enter in and harm him.

Of course, to the Shogun, that wasn't a lot of money either. In fact, Kichiro had donated over ten times that to the tournament.

"Sure." Kichiro laughed, "pass me as many shots as you can." Combined with his innate immunity to alcohol, Kichiro also had the metabolism of a furnace. The guy burned calories in his sleep at the rate many people did in a jog.

Joseph wouldn't stand a chance, "but only if my date is alright with that?" Kichiro tilted his head at Avaline, looking for her reaction to the whole matter. Neither of these people knew Kichiro was immune to alcohol and would expect Chimagin to be completely human since they had very similar physiology.

Iru knew very well where Ross had his eyes while she was eating the cake. It was her intention. If he wanted to put her in a sexy dress, then she would tease him with it tonight. There was no reason why she wouldn't.

She sat up again while chewing on the cake. It was indeed tasty. It actually made a nice combination with the carrot cake taste already in her mouth. She swallowed the bit of cake and smiled at Ross. "Well, I'll be looking forward to that. Try and wait until we get home though. I don't know if I want to give the driver a show in the limo."

Iru noticed the fae, but didn't really care to say anything to her. She was too busy flirting with Ross. Besides, the woman was eating cake as well. She probably didn't want to be bothered. Besides, Iru didn't care much for talking with the other women. Her attention went back to Ross. "You were right. That cake is good. I think I should have gotten chocolate over carrot cake. Though, that red velvet cake looked good too." There were too many good choices.

"I'm afraid not - in fact, I don't know how to dance at all." He admitted, smiling cheerily in spite of his handicap. His gloved hand momentarily made a sign, two fingers indicating peace to the distant James in a sassy manner. Then he took the young priestess' hand into his own, and put his other hand low on her back.

His flesh was cold and he exuded an aura of death, but all of his icy skin was covered. It made his physical contact with her modestly cool, and their clashing energies allowed them to maintain their own personal space despite being close together. Just as she realized the worthlessness of his body, so did he, and so he had no appreciation for shame when it came to holding her close, or shyness for that matter.

"I think we just hold each other and walk around, try to make it look good or something. Isn't that how it's done when one wants to talk to a pretty lady about something private, at a place like this?" He smiled again, looking down to the small woman in his arms. Leading as best he could, the vampire gravitated the pair out of the way of the more experienced dancers, his attention having left the Slayer entirely in order to be solely focused on his partner.

Eyelids languidly lowered as she quietly approved of his wardrobe again and again, still taking sips of her champagne.

"Of course." she quipped, eager to enroll him in the game as well. How kind of him to consider her feelings, she mused, tapping the glass with an idle fingernail.

It was up to Joseph really, being the ring leader and all.
Looks like he was in for it with this game. Neither of the opponents were exactly trustworthy.

“I wanted more people but oh well.”
Joseph filled three shot glasses, set the bottle back down, and downed his second shot.
“This is going to be fun!”

While the judge and the woman were busy talking, Esouna finished her slice of cake. She licked her lips and returned to the refreshments table, to hand back the plate.

Now needing something else to do, the fairy would drift over to the man starting up a drinking contest. Interesting, he had two partners now. Like before, Esouna would drop herself off on the table, but not too in-the-way. Yep, it smelled like alcohol here. Gaians loved this stuff. she narrowed her eyes, donning a more critical expression. What was so great about this sort of thing? She understood drinking, which she did on sparse occasion...but drinking mass quantities, no, that made no sense. The fairy crossed her legs and hunched over, leaning her chin on her open palm. Verdict: amusement, but not approval.

Kichiro noticed the small things, like the movement of Aveline's eyelids out of his peripheral vision. Also; the fairies that were in attendance with the rest of the ball. Of course, only one such fairy was really small to be considered part of those things. Along the flow of Chi, Kichiro noted a great many interesting things...

...all in the time it took for a shot glass to hit the table and raise to his lips.

"Fun indeed, my good sir!" Kichiro returned to Joseph's happy decleration with a proclamation of his own. After he downed the thing that might as well have been thinned water to him, Kichiro asked, "what is the name of our drinking companion? I am Oda Kichiro and this is my date Avaline Marquise."

The Japanese gave a slight bow of his head, though not too much. It wouldn't be proper for a Shogun to be submissive to simple drinking companions, even if one was stunning.

"Well," She smiled, pleasantly surprised with his candidness. "I guess you don't mind if I lead then? And maybe... We should try a waltz. It should be a bit easier to follow with just three beats."

A pleasant tune started up as he guided her toward a less populated corner of the dance floor and she did her best to lead him through the steps and avoid following any knee-jerk reactions to burning the hand that held hers.

"What exactly did you want to talk about?" The cleric finally queried after whisking her skirts out of the way of his feet.

“Name’s Joseph.”
He proceeded to pour himself another shot.
“Help yourself; I’ll be going for a few hours on this here Russian Vodka. I need to fix my alcohol system; there is too much blood in it…”
He trailed off as he took his next shot.

With the flick of her wrist she splashed the contents of the shot glass down her throat; eyelids wrinkled shut till it joined the champagne in her stomach. So far so good. "Ah.." she said ravishingly, looking around at the two men, and then the fairy who had just recently joined them.

"Mm.. Nice to meet you Joseph." She added on like a silly.
Who says these things between swigs?

But wait... Joseph took another shot before she could even keep up with the first one. Already she was grappling with the bottle to quickly catch up--losing track with changing the chemical content of what she had already downed. Shot number two came tumbling down almost immediately.

A sly glance flicked towards Kichiro to see how he was handling it so far. He didn't even flinch... Crap.

One leg crossed the other as she leaned, looking at Mr. Oda between the lacy shade of auburn lashes. "Kichiro... Are you much of a drinker?" she tested jokingly, slanting her eyes in a mock-cunning fashion.

The vampire moved with the music, that is to say, he stumbled through the foreign steps in an effort to keep up with his partner. He did his best to hide his surprise at her ability, though he couldn't help but wonder where she had learned to dance. Wasn't she busy praying all the time or something?

Turning them at one point, the vampire let his features slip into a genuine smile as his confidence beamed. Taking hold of the manly aspect of the dance, he 'threw' Seyumi away from him, his gloved hand reflexively tightening on her own before pulling her back to him. What had been a boyish look of elation had turned to panic in a moment, and then to relief once he realized he hadn't sent her sprawling away into a tangled mess but in fact recovered her with some grace.

Dancing is tough!

"Sorry." He said, loosening his grip on her hand slightly. It was a bit hard to keep up with all the squeezing and not-squeezing, the tos and fros, zigs and zags ( and that's not even counting how many times he might step on her toes through the course of the night ).

When it came time to answer her however, he momentarily slowed their routine. His eyes searched her face, trying to unlock the secret she held from him. He needed to know what had set her off the last time he attempted to manipulate her.

He chuckled lightly, before leaning in to her as if to whisper his answer. Instead, he'd give her a quick peck on the temple like she was a little girl. "I was going to apologize, but now you've gone and made me realize how much I enjoy fighting with you."

When it came time to answer her however, he momentarily slowed their routine. His eyes searched her face, trying to unlock the secret she held from him. He needed to know what had set her off the last time he attempted to manipulate her.

As he scanned her face, the vampire would see pure joy at their bumbled dancing, her happiness rising impossibly with every misstep and near stomp of her toes and dress. Seyumi was enjoying herself tremendously and had all but forgotten that she was her partners veritable bane of existence as they completed another successful twirl and together gained a level in dance.

Deeper, underneath the emotions that were so clearly shown on her smiling features were the threads of her heart that she closely guarded and that he sought to inspect, the reasons behind the failure of their last encounter as clear to him in that small glimpse as daylight. He had baited her with words of twisted love and affection under the assumption that she had experienced such tumultuous passions when the truth was that she had not. The two strings that were the load stone of her emotions contained no threads of the lust he had sought to ensnare her with for she was still a maiden in heart and in body. In every encounter that she had with James Black and Stryphe Epothos to this point, there had never been anything more between them save for chaste kisses and passionate embraces upon their departure as the world always seemed to be thrust into peril whenever she drew near either of the men.

"You're a fast learner." She praised, beaming up at his face and ignorant of his delving.

Another flash of surprise splashed upon her face and she flushed brightly, the healthy glow of her skin giving any observers another hint to their polarity. She was scarce out of girlhood, flush and full of life as Gaians were when they neared the gates of their prime and KB... Well, KB was dead as a doornail, though it seemed his humor and mischievous demeanor didn't die with him.

"I wish I could say the same. I enjoy your company but the thought of marring it with combat is disheartening." But not entirely unlikable, though she omitted that nugget of information.

"Do you think that you'll ever be able to let go of your hate?" Her voice lowered as she spoke, referencing the last words of their previous bloodstained conversation.
