Ujuzi stared at the male for a silent seven seconds with a blank expression. Had he really just said that?
". . ."
Though when she thought on it a moment, it was more of an insult to males than offensive to her. Again she tried to speak, but found no words, simply shaking her head and turning to head in the direction that she'd been heading away from. She stopped after a few paces and turned back, waiting for the others to approve or disapprove. She didn't want to offend Haiji, but honestly that thought took second place to instinct.
"I passed by a herd of Gazelle on my way here."

"Mataka." The brown, black and white female nodded at her introduction. "Yeah it's an ok spot. Although maybe we should move back a bit from the river. Lions and other hunters might come this way during the night to drink."
She couldn't help but feel a little disappointed when the excitable dog admitted she'd never heard of the old pack though. But this was quickly washed away and replaced with renewed vigour as Ujuzi spoke. "Yes, that is them. A legend it seems to most who even know of them. Many remember nothing at all.... because, well they were wiped out when my mother was still a pup. Killed and disbanded and more of a legend now than before. But I'm going to change all that... with your help." She looked around at the other three wild dogs. "We can rebuild it again. There's still the legend's blood in two of our bodies, and strength in yours'."
Pausing at Dhati's words, Haiji was surprised by her cousin's statement too. She flicked an ear back and raised an eyebrow at him. "Really? Well I think in this new pack everyone should contribute. Look out for the rest and play your own part for the well-being of the group. Don't you think Ujuzi?" She turned her head to look at the eldest amongst them, and also who seemed the most sensible besides herself.
Not that Mataka was bad in anyway. A little over-excited it seemed but very enthusiastic and energetic, which were good attributes in Haiji's opinion.
"Gazelle? Sounds good to me. They're quick, but mum told me they tire easier. We could certainly run one down between the four of us. Good thing you taught yourself Dhati, it'll come in useful. Let's see how you do." And with that she turned her nose to the way Ujazi had been walking from when they'd met her. She said she'd passed a herd afterall and so they should come across it or even a scent of it.

Ujuzi actually felt a small grin form at Haiji's words, she gave an equally slight nod.
"I certainly do agree."
She turned in that instant, moving to follow Haiji. She was a bit concerned for Dhati, though, and kept in mind that he wasn't feeling well.
She turned to the young heir ((edit: ha ha "air". Tahja was slow that night. XD; )) and murmered. "Team effort aside, perhaps he would be better suited to a job that doesn't require much physical effort this time as he is not well. Getting the herd moving in our direction, perhaps, or even simply helping with the final strike?"
If he really was weak from lack of food then it might cause uneccesary injury, and Ujuzi surely didn't want to see any of the three get hurt.

Mataka blinked. All this sudden conversation and talking of legends where a blurr to her, however she gave both females a wide smile and acknowleged their conversations with a nod.
She turned to Dhati, smiling at the male, whom was a little younger than her, before turning and bouncing happily. "So it's this way?" She asked, poking her head in the direction she thought led to food. Her tail wagged happily. How she'd missed company these past few seasons.

Dhati looked up realising he said some things he probably shouldn't have and then he looked to the older wild dog, "Oh no I will be fine I can help fine!" He tilted his head slightly looked slightly stupid. "I really want to help and I don't want to hold others back, I can hunt just as well as you can, I am sure I can!" He really was eager to hunt and however much he just wanted to rest he also wanted to help he didn't want to seem lazy of anything.

As probably the oldest wild dog here, she was on the brink of adulthood, and as she stood, her slender figure showed that. Bouncing exictedly, she barked to the others, before speeding off in another direction, eager to start hunting. She looks back at Dhati. He seemed so sweet. She hadn't met another male so willing to help before.

As they walked out in the direction of their prey's herd, Haiji looked back over her shoulder. Dhati had seemed ok before, but then she didn't know how much wandering he'd done before they'd met up. Nor when he last ate. But she had to weigh that up against his willingness to help. He was practically insisting he come along with them.
"If I want to rebuild a pack I can't go getting it's members ill and weak on the first evening." She spoke, watching Mataka out of the corner of her eye. "A less physical task for you Dhati might be best. Not that it'd be any less important. I have an idea...."
She paused, looking back to the river where it got deep, then to the shapes in the not too distant plain. "Stay here Dhati, keep watch. The rest of us will run on to the herd and chase one back this way. When we come, you've got to cut off it's escape in that direction and the river will block off that other way. Then we'll be able to corner it." She gave him a nod. "You'll have a just as important job as us. Come on Mataka, this way!" She called the bouncy female back and then loped off towards the antelope herd. She knew Ujuzi would come along without having to be told.

Dhati nodded though mumbled complaining that he couldn't do lots of running. He however did as he was asked and laid himself down in the grass making sure he was well hidden so to surprise the prey and make it run in a certain direction. He decided that while he would wait, he would wash his paw!

Ujuzi sent a glance to Dhati before turning her eyes to the other two females and then the path ahead, falling easily into a light trot of a pace.
And as they went she let the casual mind of small talk and introductions slip beneath the surface once more, the harsher and more calculating mindset taking over. She prided herself on her ability to focus even under intense situations. One wrong move here could be the end of your life.
Small and foolishly abandoned or older and carelessly distanced? What would they be attemtping to bring down today, she wondered with a glance to the other bodies moving amongst the grass beside her.

As the females headed off towards the herd of grass-eaters, Haiji looked at them. "Mother and I used to do this sometimes." She explained. "Mother would chase one away from the rest and into a trapped area where I would wait and then we could tackle it together. Sometimes they ran off to the other side though... but with more of us now I think we can stop that happening." She nodded to Ujuzi as they loped along. "If you go around that side you can stop it from swinging back round and rejoining the herd. Mataka and I will go this way and scare one out... then we can chase it back towards the river, that should tire it out too." Haiji obviously had some experience with multiple-dog hunting plans.
Nearing the heard of antelope, she slowed and eyed the grazers hungrily. She gave a nod to the others and then picked up her pace again, running faster this time and heading around to the back of the herd.
The antelope did notice the swift forms moving around them and began to shift nervously. Any moment they might make a break for it.
