Tofir blinked and set his roll down, which meant he wouldn't be eating any more of it. Y'ul's sudden departure caught him by surprise. He had been too distracted by the occasion of Y'ul's Impression and later Song's arrival and Shiv's delighted, shrieking whistle to pick up on the subtle cues she gave him that his blithe speech about leaving had distressed her.
And then she was gone too quickly for him to have much of a chance to respond. He wasn't about to go chasing after her - not that he'd have any trouble catching her while she was lugging that dragonet about - but he wanted to talk to her. And interview her. But talk to her. She was his friend, and this was a huge event in her life.
Of course, she had Erath now, and she'd never been much for talking about personal things with him. Anytime he tried to get her to do it, she became prickly and defensive. He had to sneak it into conversation. Maybe she simply had no more use for him. That thought stung a little. He isolated it and examined it while staring into Shiv's blue-green eyes. Shiv whistled and reassured him that he was being silly. Yulu was still his friend, she just had to adjust to having a dragon. He should quit being childish and go talk to her. Tof shook his head. Good advice from a firelizard.
"Later," he said to Shiv. "Tonight. She doesn't want to be around me right now, clearly."

Infinities "Thank you as well." Jada gave a quick smile to Canoake. "I hope we do look that lovely." She'd done her best! Canoake was looking about for someone... "I know Yulu and Folen." Jada got onto her tip-toes to glance around for the two of them. Yulu was with a stranger, one who looked vaguely familiar. And Foalen was surrounded by other riders and Theirs. A glance at Canoake, and she knocked Yulu out of the running for introductions. What she knew of the two, one might not make it out. "I suppose I could introduce you to my old friend Foalen." she agreed. "As you can see though, I am working," she lifted the jog and smiled wryly, "So I may have to introduce you and run." Her eyes caught on a rider looking at her pitcher impatiently, and she stepped away from the other young woman and poured him a refill of water. Stepping back, she pointed towards where Foalen was. "This way." "Clearly, I still have to teach you a few things. You shouldn't be serving this night, you should be celebrating with those you know and such." Canoake shook her head. This girl had the same kind of beauty she did, just no people sense or any sense of getting out of work. A Weyrwoman delegated and knew when to let the underlings handle things.
Placing a hand on Jada's elbow, she steered her slightly towards a younger drudge. He was cleaned up and made to look nice for the feast. Giving him a smile and a nod, Canoake took the water pitcher and handed it over to him. "Can you see that this gets emptied among the riders? They like having someone give them water."
The drudge nodded and took the jug. "Good. Now, let us go and meet with those you know."

Jada stiffened as Canoake pulled the jug away from her. The drudge was gone, however, before Jadamirei was able to trust her own mouth. "Canoake, I was assigned this chore. And unlike you, who is a child of this Weyr, if I am sent away for disobedience or disregard of my responsibilities, I will have no further chance to Impress."
Her voice remained low; this would not carry. Publicly chiding Canoake over something like this would be unwise for all parties involved. "I can't afford to shirk a task so publicly." She wouldn't deny having traded off tasks before, but she always balanced her work. This made her uncomfortable.

Seemingly unaware that Skananth had been right beside her, Tatleth continued searching. Her brush in with Pipith had already passed from her mind, and a smile curled her maw as she mingled in the crowd, but this time she kept by K'lar's side, his hand resting lightly on her back as she moved.
"Mine, you look tired. Sleep time for you soon, yes?"
"Only if you're tired, my sweet one," he said warmly, scratching her lightly under the chin. Already, he felt as if she had been with him his whole life, a part of him now. It was a good feeling, to love and be loved so deeply.
"We will sleep, mine, after I've found Morgath . . . "his dragon said in a mind-voice filled with true and undiminished happiness. She truly loved her clutchmates, even Pipith. A series of chirps and rumbling purrs burst from her maw in her happiness, and suddenly everyone in the vacinity was blasted with her loud mind-voice as she spotted the huge bronze that had hatched from the not-so-queen egg.
"MORGATH!"

No one is keeping track of you this night when all are looking after the newly Impressed and talking about Kaveth's queen egg that wasn't. And don't tell me you didn't have your hopes up, we all did." Canoake snapped. She let go of the girl's arm and sighed. "Honestly, how am I supposed to teach you anything with you being so...good. "
Sashaying and waving towards a group of older riders, Canoaoke took the time to notice their rank cords and realize that they were wing riders and not those in charge. Her eyes narrowed as she plotted her next course. "If you really want, I can go find a task for you to complete. But I am sure you would rather congratulate those who Impressed."

Watching Canoake with an almost incredulous gaze, Jadamirei was suddenly very aware of just how silly she had been. What did she want to learn from this girl? "You're right, I did have my hopes up. And Canoake?" she paused a moment to see if the girl responded before continuing. "I still do. Call me good if you have to."
Shards, the girl spoke of people talking about the gold that wasn't, and Jada was more concerned that already-touchy people would be even more so. Of all nights, in her mind, this was not the night to screw up. She paced after the drudge, finding him and neatly lifting the jug from his hands. "I'll take that." she assured him. Ah, he'd gotten it refilled, wonderful. "Thank you for helping."
Did she want to congratulate those who had Impressed? Certainly. And she would. She started moving again towards the new Riders. Yulu looked to be gone, but Folen and his group were still there, seated at the table. She gave a polite bow to Candidatemaster J'ev as she passed him, silently offering a refill of water.
"Folen!" she finally got close enough to somewhat quietly draw his attention to her. "Congratulations. And to the rest of you as well." She nodded to the other new riders present and their dragons. "Anyone need some water?"

'well that's good.' Vespereth said, giggling at the idea of a boy afraid of girls 'otherwise he would be afraid of Cassmine, and that is just silly.'
Cass was surprised when the boy actually bowed her her. Kitchen workers were not bowed to often, obviously, so it was something of a new experience. Not sure what a woman did in such a situation, she settled for nodding and smiling in a welcoming fashion. "Go ahead and pull up a chair then. I think it'll be quite awhile before the fest is over." she pointed out before turning and glancing at their dragons, apparently more than comfortable just where they were
'Good first impressions are always important.' Vespereth said with a hint of humor, considering that they had only just impressed themselves.
Cass took a few bites of her food before she looked to Va'en again, and spoke. "So, Va'en, you are a dragonrider now. What were you before today, though?" she asked curiously as she watched him with her large dark eyes. He had a pretty rugged look to him, which he wore well, but spoke of manual labor. Someone spoke behind her again, and Cass wondered who it could be this time. Ah, but they were addressing F'len this time, well, until they congratulated all the new riders. Cass looked at the girl in the pretty blue dress and smiled "Thank you! I could use some, actually." all this talking was thirsty business! The petite woman offered up her cup to be filled, a grateful smile on her face.

F'len found himself smiling at Va'en's gallant behavior. Was it any wonder Morgath had chosen as he did?
'Morgath will do well by the weyr and so will his, they are very strong and kind.' Skananth agreed as he watched his clutchmates pleased simply to be surrounded by them.
When Jada came over to the table F'len looked up at her. Situated as he was between the table and Skananth he wasn't able to wrap Jada up in the hug he had been hoping to give his old friend.
Feeling his's need to express his feelings the blue lifted his snout intending to brush it gently against the apprentice harper's legs but he was stopped by a strong hand on his nose. "Ah nice thought Skan, but Jada has a picture of water and if you startle her it will probably end up on the floor." F'len laughed giving those gathered at the table a wink. "But I am sure she would be happy to get to know you better later."
Tilting his head the big blue looked up curiously as if to confirm this with Jada. What he saw must have satisfied him for he warbled softly at her but didn't try to touch her again.

'It would be, but he can learn.' Morgath chimed brightly. 'He won't be nervous around much longer. I know it.'
Va'en nodded and pulled up a chair to sit. "Thank you. I intend on enjoying every moment of it too. I don't want to miss anything." Settling in, he took a couple of bites of his food, glad to get something in his growling stomach, following Cass' gaze to their dragons.
'Absolutely.' The bronze said, echoing Vespereth's hint of humor. His head quickly looked around to Tatleth. He hooted a warm welcome to her with a flutter of his wings while still managing to keep them close to his body. He was happy to see another of his clutchsiblings. 'Tatleth, hello! Come join us. Ours need to meet. Morgath looked to Hers. 'Yours looks sleepy, perhaps a short visit. Ours can get to know each other well later. We have all the time in the world.'
Shifted his attention briefly to Tatleth and K'lar at the Green's chirping and dipped his head in greeting before Va'en looked again to Cass and swallowed his bite at her question, offering her a smile, absently scratching at one of the scars on his arm, almost a force of habit when he remembered how he got them. "Well, before I was Searched I was an Excavator." Giving a small shrug, he continued. "My dad had wanted me to continue after him as a Surveyor, but it never piqued my interest. I enjoyed my time there, but I'm extremely happy with this new lot that I've been given." He patted Morgath fondly. He felt so lucky to have a loving, fulfilling bond with the bronze. "What were you before, if I may ask?"
Va'en shifted his attention to Jada and smiled. "Ah, thank you very much." He offered his glass and dipped his head gratefully. "Oh, yes please. I could use a small topping off. Thanks again."
Morgath looked up to Jada at her approach before nosing the closest of his siblings, enjoying having them around him. Hearing his Skananth's warble, he looked over to his brother. 'Skananth, are you enjoying the feast so far? You and Yours look quite at home.'

The female greenrider received a smile and Jada filled up her cup with the liquid. "It was a wonderful hatching, wasn't it?" She looked at the handsome blue when Folen stopped the blue from touching her.
She filled up the unknown rider's glass before she set the pitcher of water on the table and bent to hold out her hand to the blue, hesitant to touch him. "I'm not holding the water anymore, am I?" she teased her friend.

Skananth bobbed his head in human fashion as he had seen his his's memory. 'The feast is good. Mine is enjoying himself now that he is not so hungry. But even better is having so many of us together like this. I hope you and yours having a good time as well." The little blue replied prolightly before looking up at Jada's now empty hand.
Gleefully he stood up in one fluid motion and rubbed his head against Jada's hand with a surprising burst of energy as if he were some sort of really large winged canine coming to greet her.
"Gently Skananth, F'len cautioned grabbing hold of the dragon's neck which slowed the blue down a little and would hopefully prevent him from knocking his friend over. He's glad to meet you Jada, in case you hadn't noticed."

Jada moved to greet the blue, running her hand over Skananth's eyeridge. "Such a handsome fellow you are." she complimented the blue. "I'm glad to meet you too. My name is Jada, Skananth. And what name has Yours chosen?" she looked up at Folen, grinned. "F'len? It's the only thing I can think of." She scratched the blue's eye ridge one more time, tentatively so as to not hurt the dragonet before pushing to her feet.
"Was there anything else I could get any of you? I'm still on work duty for a little bit longer." she gave all the new riders a smile. A genuine one. They were so very lucky, but they all looked so happy, still... "Where are Stripes and Burnish?" she asked Folen, curious. She hadn't seen the two lizards. Had they not come to join their Boy yet?

Skananth made happy sounds as he leaned into the young harper's caresses. 'Oh she has wonderful hands, mine. Tell her she has nice hands!"
"Skannanth really likes what you are doing and he thinks you have very nice hands. And yes my names going to be F'len. With so few letters to a name it really is the only choice."
"I can't speak for the others, but I don't need anything more you." The new bluerider smiled. He wished he had a chance to sit and talk with Jada more, but she was busy and the new weyrlings were expected to mingle as well. Unforchinatly once training began he and Skananth were going to have very little free time to visit anyone, but he promised himself silently that he would make time to seek his old friend out even if he could only spare a few moments at a time.
He shifted, opening his collar so a tiny blue head could peek out from his shirt. "Stripes is right here. Burnish is outside trying to woo a queen he saw at the hatching." He shook his head his with fond exasperation. "And from the rather disgruntled feeling I sensed from him earlier, he's not having much luck. Apparently he's not quite as fine as he thinks he is."

The young woman couldn't stop her small laugh at Burnish's antics. "Is he old enough to be competition for the others?" she asked, leaned over to brush her hand over Stripes' small head. "Well, I'm off." When no one else seemed to state they required anything, Jada nodded and moved off with a final wave to her friend.
Who else was here for her to bother that she knew? As she walked, she filled the cups of those who held their goblets out.

Canoake rolled her eyes as she followed Jadamirei. They had approached the newly Impressed Folen and the lovely blue who had wobbled free from his shell. She loved his patterns and coloring and watched as he rubbed against Jada's hand.
Patiently, she actually watched. A surprising turn for her as she watched the interaction between the two. Interesting indeed. This was something she would keep her eye on. In the meanwhile, best to make her hellos while she could. "Hello there. I am a friend of Jada's," not quite the truth but not quite a lie,"and I asked her to introduce me but she seems to have been taken by your lovely bond mate. Congratulations on your luck and success.
