Tofir lacked the suspicions of his fellow healers, who seemed unimpressed by the apparently good mood of the newest hatchling. They muttered to each other that happy dragons could be just as destructive in their exuberance as unhappy ones could be in their moodiness. Tofir agreed, of course, but he didn't see any reason to be so dour about it. They reminded him in low voices of the violence that had occurred at the last hatching, and Tofir reminded them politely that he had been there, thanks, and he'd been helping just as he was now.

Every so often Tofir's spectatorship was disturbed by Shiv, too. The little blue was creeling miserably under his pillow, and Tofir could feel his distress more keenly than he'd ever felt anything from the neurotic creature. He had a suspicion that he would return to find vomit on his bed, or something. He was wearing his boots, so at least those wouldn't be thrown up upon. Again. He suggested mentally that maybe Shiv should find Song.

Shiver like the idea immensely and darted off, appearing a few feet away from a strange man who happened to be near Song. He whistled hesitantly. Was that really Song? Who was the man-person?

Another Green. That made two known greens thus far for the clutch, L'pin still unable to see what rested inside the Gey egg. Shamth wasn't giving him any clues or advice either, the dragon seeming to have almost fallen asleep over his lack of interest in what was going on. He'd been so aware when the humming had first started, but now it appeared as though that energy had moved on and Shamth had better things to do - like sleep.

There would most likely be more blues coming if not more Greens, and L'pin wondered if there was a Brown amongst that group. The Golden egg still looked as solid and steady as ever, along with the egg that had toppled down in front of it. How much longer would it be before that walking Bronze Impressed as well, the Blue rider pretty sure everyone had all but forgot about him. He was about to say something to Shamth when an unknown blue flitt appeared near him, Song suddenly making noise in happiness.

It was indeed Song, this was Hinalle's person she was with. Yulu trusted this person so Shiver would not worry, since Hinalle's person was very kind and Hinalle was Song's clutchsibling. Shiver didn't need to worry!

The green stood up tall, balancing herself with her wings as she lifted her front legs off of the sands. Where oh where was Hers? They must be out there somewhere! But look at all the choice! For a moment, she hovered in indecision, still making soft sounds under her breath. Her eyes moved from candidate to candidate, but each time she ended with the same downward chirp. She even stuck her tongue out at one candidate, seemingly so displeased that she couldn't take it anymore. But then oh! There he was!

Bugling at the top of her voice she raced towards the group of male candidates, eyes set on one boy and one boy only. It was hard to hear anything past all the noise she was making, but Kylar received the added bonus of hearing the dragonet's mental voice. Unsurprisingly, it was as loud as her physical one.

KYLAR! KYLAR! THERE IS SO MUCH YOUR TATLETH WANTS TO TELL YOU!

After arriving at the place where the meat for the dragonets had been prepared Folen took carefully metered out the chunks of raw meat for Skananth and encouraged the young blue to chew it slowly while casting glances back at the sands to see how his friends were fairing.

"Mmmm I like meat!" Skananth announced happily between bites.

...Not for her. Still, four more that might be for her, four more yet. There was the grey speckled that might be green or blue, the new grass, the queen, and the streaked sky... Of course, it was even possible that the spicy red egg was a big blue that would want her!... But it had felt so impatient with her. And the streaked sky so hostile... But maybe they'd want her anyway? Maybe? You never knew, you had to hope! Had to hope. Had to keep your heart open. Keep hoping. Layla swallowed hard and bit her lip harder. She still had a chance. She might find her lifemate. She might.

Gentle-seeming or no, Allia kept as far away from the spotted green dragonet as she possibly could, shuffling behind other girls and out of the way. She didn't trust them, not one single bit, not after the last time. Fortunately, the second one went directly for the boys, and that was just fine by her! She was just going to uh...stand here in the back. Right.

---

Sethal couldn't believe his luck! He'd just been here to deliver a letter, and lo and behold, there were eggs hatching! And so, unable to resist, he sidled into the stands, found what seemed like a good spot, and took a seat. The letter could wait a little while, it wouldn't hurt anything. Besides, the person it was for was probably watching as well, so...no harm in taking a little detour to do the same!

Zhierd stood watching the hatching quietly. Well, so far things were definitely going better then the last hatching, and that was good. The last thing anyone needed right now was more bad news.

The boy had been a little disappointed that the last dragon had not impressed with him but there were still more to come. He knew it was simply because his dragon had not hatched yet. Or perhaps his dragon was not here. His heart sank a little at the thought. Well only time would tell.

Oh! It seemed that another of the eggs was hatching! He watched quietly as another green stuck her head out. Ah yes! He remembered this egg. She seemed quite happy to have the spotlight. It made him laugh a little to himself.

Lelia watched as, yet another dragon dashed off to find its human amongst the boys. Another boy? Was there something wrong? Was the Telgar bias against women riders based on fact? Did dragons not like girls? No, Lelia didn't think so, but so far the dragons certainly seemed to favor the boys. There was still time, there were still eggs, and there was still that silly little leg poking out of the shell. And if not today...another time. Lelia still had years left. She would impress, it was just a matter of time.

She held her head high and smiled, searching the stands absently with her eyes, and lighting up a little when she saw Kaatan there. Glorious Kaatan was here; she just had to have confidence. She exhaled and inhaled slowly, keeping her eyes on the eggs and refraining from looking standward anymore. Dragons now. People later.

That was fast, as in....Yulu didn't even really have time to let things register. She recalled the sound of the egg hatching and the loud noises of the Green, though the next thing she knew it was at the side of a boy near her and was making loud noises at him. It almost hurt her head how loud it was, and she was so glad again that this one did not choose her. Sure she was starting to feel the pain of not having someone yet, the eggs nearly half-hatched and still nothing her way, but it wasn't that discouraging. Yet.

Come on, come on.

That made three boys to Impress so far, the many girls on the other side left out, and Yulu was starting to wonder if she'd best move back over to them. No one had said anything to her so far and she didn't want to get hurt or in trouble for moving over the bowl without good reasons, so she kept her feet planted where they were. Being here gave her no less of a chance to Impress, it was all now based on dragon's choice and not location.

In no time at all, Iloraz and Betteth had reached the meat table, where Folen and Skananth already were. He grinned at Folen. "Congrats on impressing him. He's a lovely blue."

Brothermine, how is the meat? she asked the large blue dragon who was currently being fed, as Iloraz gathered meat and offered a piece to her. She sniffed it curiously before scarfing it down, and looking up at Iloraz for more.

"Chew it this time," he suggested, and offering her another piece, this one a little larger than the first one had been.

It wasn't unusual, Jada decided, that so many boys were being selected. It was Telgar, after all, and female choices were few enough. And there had been plenty of Hatchings. This one may not be any different at all except for one egg. One. Still, watching all the happiness was making her own heart ache with happiness and worry.

There were five more eggs unhatched, and an unImpressed bronze. She bit her lip, smiling over at the table that held the new Riders.

Their faces were so radiant.

Folen grinned when he realized one of the greens had stopped in front of Kylar, he was glad the other boy had managed to impress. Still as always there were more candidates than Dragons and some were bound to be dissapointed.

No sooner had Tatleth found Hers than a deep, agitated hum filled the air. It shook the sand near it and the source became obvious as the Spicy Red Egg.

It continued even as the shell began to crack and wack into the Golden Stag Egg behind it.

From the Spicy Red Egg, emerged a brown, tail first. He was nothing special. Perhaps slightly larger than some other brown hatchlings, but when he shook the remnants of enclosure from his body and stood up proud, it was obvious there was a sense of maturity in him.

His strides were long and clumsy at first, but they quickly shortened and he was soon walking with purpose straight towards the small bronze that was wandering the sands.

He let out a harsh cry, his eyes whirling orange for a brief moment as he paused. Then, he moved the rest of the way towards the bronze, carefully moving between candidates as so not to hurt them, and bumped the bronze sharply in the rump with his forehead.

Jasrai, are you sure you don't want to watch the hatching? Roseth asked. Jasrai recognized that tone. Whining would come next. Roseth wanted to go to the hatching.

"I'm absolutely certain," Jasrai answered truthfully. She'd been doing the best she could in the last few days not to let on what she'd done to her arm, and to her way of thinking avoiding other people seemed like a good way to do that. That way if anything started to ooze or bleed, no one would notice. And besides, her arm hurt.

Jasrai! I have never been to a hatching.

"Have, too. Yours. If you're so keen on going, go. I'm staying here."

Roseth sniffed pointedly, but to Jasrai's surprise she took off and left. When she reached the area, she announced to her rider that she was landing next to Kannaroth and that several dragons had already hatched. Jasrai wondered, but then stopped herself. She didn't want to be there, and she wasn't curious about the new dragons at all.

A brown just hatched, Roseth reported. And, oh! He bumped into that bronze on purpose!

"Thank you, and your lady is lovey as well." Folen replied with a nod to the young green.

"You will like it! It's very good! But it is slippery and likes to drop onto the ground. We are supposed to hold onto it with our teeth and chew. Or so mine says. But it is hard to do both at the same time." The blue replied demonstrating as some of his meat fell onto the sands. He frowned. "Sand flavored meat does not taste as good."
