 Konaga ShinjiIwagakure| Konaga Clan | Genin Leading the way down the Death Road, Shinji couldn't help but be fully aware of his surroundings due to the road's ominous name. "What a delightful name to give a road... don't you think sensei? Death Road... rolls right off the tongue and is so inviting too. I guess there is something to be said for it if it's to be used as a warning, but still, for a ROAD, a major point of commerce and travel... you might want to consider something more inviting, or at the very least, less depressing. Traveling can be bad enough without having to have a road's name loom over your head as if to foreshadow what you might see."
Continuing his musings to himself as he waited for his sensei's inevitable reply, Shinji came across something strange in the area ahead. They were about an hours walk form the village by now, far beyond the gates, and perhaps that is why is was so strange. As he came closer to the spot of interest, Shinji was able to distinguish that a large battle had taken place here, as there was a large amount of earth moved about in the area. "Akira-sensei... come here and look at this!" running over to the area where the battle seemed to be it's most intense, Shinji recognized some of the earthly remains which were strewn about as being akin to some of the after effects of the Doton techniques he had learned.
"Looks like there was a fight here. I would also guess that the combatants were Doton users. The scorched earth however, it also points to some Katon abilities as well." Continuing to look over the area, Shinji traced the steps of the battlefield until he came to a large patch of dirt, where earth seemed to have crumbled from a large structure in a circular radius. Upon coming to this spot however, he noted something that had not seen yet within the mounds of dirt as he looked closer to examine it... "Dried blood... and a lot of it too. Looks like someone suffered a lot of wounds here. No body to speak of though. What do you think Akira-sensei? Is this of any worth noting for our return to Iwagakure?"

"Yes I'd much prefer the Happy Funtime Road, however in this case it seems the road's foreshadowing name has proved itself true." responded Akira as Shinji called him over to the strange scene.
He definitely agreed with the observations Shinji had made concerning the battle, especially with the evidence of Doton techniques being used. He wasn't too familiar with Katon so he wondered if it was Katon techniques or rather some sort of explosive.
Akira studied the splashes of dried blood within what seemed to be the remnants of a collapsed earth dome. He judged this from the shape and volume of earth left, it also was a perfect way to confine and kill someone, and in such confines you could easily lacerate someone to the level of bleeding displayed.
"We shall continue to Konohagakure, no reports of anyone recently engaged in this level of combat has been issued in Iwagakure. Therefore, it is likely the persons are headed along the same path as us. We shall investigate this potential crime scene further, this is a B-rank mission, Shinji, stay aware, stay close, and if I tell you to run, you run. Let's move!"

Konaga ShinjiIwagakure| Konaga Clan | Genin His mother having been a bit of a scientist, Shinji had often seen her take sampling of plants and other things that she had found interesting to be observed later. Not knowing if it would help or not, Shinji removed a small pouch from one of his larger holsters and using a kunai, had removed some of the blood-stained dirt, placing it into the pouch just as the words of his sensei had reached him. Responding immediately to the command, Shinji stood up, placing the sample pouch back itno his back left item holster and turned to respond quickly, noting urgency of his voice... "HAI!"
With no other words, Shinji broke into a full sprint forward, which for him, was quite fast, beyond that of what most Genin, or even Chuunin would be able to keep up with. A Jounin however, such as his teacher would be able to keep up however, which Shinji counted on as he blazed a trail down the path, his arms carried loosely behind him as he ran at the increased speed. With his loose attire flapping and flowing in the wind behind him, Shinji was thankful that his sword generally kept it all in place as it was securely strapped to his back and heavy enough to keep everything generally well in place.
At this speed, they would soon reach the borders of Konoha, with only the immense forests of the Fire Country to pass through before they arrived at the gates. as they ran, Shinji would run through a hundred things in his mind, but at the forefront would be his sensei's words of urgency... "A B-rank mission... but those are only for scenes of a crime. Does he think someone was murdered on their way to Iwagakure?... the scene certainly did look that way." Though unsure, Shinji remained focused on the task at hand as they sped down the path at blazing speeds, soon to reach the borders of Konoha. All the while, Shinji was at a heightened alertness, watching all sides as he ran, ready and prepared to react to anything as it came instantly.

...however, i think it would have to be buried under earth... since i don't think Mokuton jutsu leaves a trace behind it. It has never been shown to be like that in the anime. I would imagine that after a little while the created wood disintegrates? Not really sure on this though... seems like it should to me, but it's never actually been covered specifically as a plot point for the Anime.}}

Akira watched as his student grabbed a sample of the earth and then quickly responded to his order to get moving. He sped off with Shinji, keeping pace with the boy, but noting that with just a tad more training, the youth could probably outrun him. Finding the whole scene a bit disconcerting, there was obviously some sort of battle that involved ninjutsu, which quite obviously implied ninja activity.
He kept a close eye on Shinji as the two made their way to Konoha, the boy's safety was his top priority and he was not going to fail to protect his ward. Akira was more than ready to annihilate any attacker that might get close to his student, and had no qualms about killing for Shinji's sake, he also showed a similar conviction concerning his own life, but not as extreme. Despite being quite odd and even empty at times, Akira had a mothering sense about him and it was hard for him not worry about the younger ones incessantly.

Sora kept up her running pace as she made it to Death Road. Interestingly, this road seemed a lot more interesting than Merchant's Road or any of the other roads that she had been on. Actually, this place seemed a lot less friendly. But that's okay, cuz Sora wasn't really in a cordial mood either. Get in, get out, get on with our lives. That's all she really wanted to do at the moment. Soon, Iwagakure came into view. The village was impressive. She was going to get there soon, she knew it.

Konaga Shinji Iwagakure| Konaga Clan | Genin "I suppose I shall never understand things as you do Akira-sensei... it all seems like a game I would care never to play. Why talk between my teeth with second meanings when I could just as easily lodge my foot in their abdomen. Either way is bound to get you answers... and my way is way more fun." Giving a somewhat amused grin towards his teacher, Shinji let out a small laugh before bursting through the forests edge, catching a branch as he did so, sending a spray of leaves all around him as he solidly landed on the Death Road.
On reaching the road, Shinji began to slow his pace, partly due to the fact that he was starting to feel fatigued, but mostly due to the lack of urgency in their travel as he waited for his teacher to rejoin him through the trees, waiting to speak until he had caught up... "I guess in the end I might have to learn something of diplomacy, but for now, if I stick around with you, I might just get to avoid handling such annoying things myself." Continuing their travel, the two moved at decent pace for a few hours until they finally came on the scene of the crime once more. Shinji had thought about running past it, but as the time to decide came, he found himself slowing down to a halt as he looked at the still ruined ground where the battle had taken place.
When he was here last, he was forced to leave early, but now as most of what made the situation dangerous was seemingly dealt with, he could examine it further. "Hold up just a second sensei." Shinji said as he looked over at the site of the battle... "I wanna take one last look, just to make sure nothing was missed when we rushed away. Now that we know more, it might help to gather whatever else we can from the area." Walking through the ripped earth and scorched ground, Shinji discerning eye left no rock unturned as he slowly made his way through the battlefield. Nearing the spot where the earth seemed to fall in a dome, he moved to sweep a slab of earth aside only to find that his foot was suddenly stopped.
Cocking his head to the side, he crouched low to the ground, still holding the wrapped katana in his hand as he used it to brush dirt off of what seemed to be a sharpened post of some kind... wood which had risen up out of the ground. What was much more telling however was the blood soaked upon it and the small piece of ornate and brightly colored fabric which was pinned on the sharpest point. Shinji removed the piece of fabric and rolled it around in his hand, bringing it up to his nose as he gave it a sniff. "Blood, but perfume as well... strange that it still lingers, it must have been one of her favorite things to wear, and thus the scent was embedded within it."
Calling Akira-sensei over, Shinji continued to crouch as he examined the apparent murder weapon as something suddenly struck him as he took out the burnt fragment of wood he had found outside the gates of Konoha... "Look familiar to you?" Shinji said somewhat sarcastically as he compared the two pieces of wood... "The only difference is that one is scorched and the other isn't. If anything it's just more evidence that that spy, or whoever she was, was definitely Selene's killer." Standing up, Shinji was done examining the scene, but he grabbed a hold of the piercing piece of wood left behind and plucked it out of the ground with some effort. the construction was smooth on all sides and rectangular... clearly not natural. It seemed like it must have been part of some jutsu. "We better get all this back to the Tsuchikage. She'll want to hear it all." Leaving the scene behind, confident that he had found everything he could, Shinji began the last leg of the walk back to the Iwagakure as he was ready to finally turn in his missions and prepare for the upcoming exams.

Aeden stood, gazing at the road that lead to where he started. Now, it was just another place that he didn't care for. He simply tugged on his mask slightly and turned the other way, traveling to God only knows here.
