Meh- just a generic fight. A lot of candid stuff. Like "This should have worked!" and "Why doesn't this work!" and then "OOHH it's Itatchi!"
Kinda a let down because you know it's all for naught. It's gonna be told out over the next few manga.
Oh yeah- Sasuke got a new summon some how. Because he NEEDED more power.

There's a 99.99999% chance he's a genjutsu.
I don't mind if Itachi makes a beyond-the-grave cameo in the form of another one of Sasuke's contrived, "symbolic" jutsu, but if this ends up being another genjutsu fight I'm going to slap someone.
"Itachi's winning, no, now Sasuke's winning, now it's Itachi, oh, Sasuke's made a come-back..!"
...and then eight chapter later:
IT WAS ALL AN ILLUUUUSSIIOOOONNN

White side-"Dude, they have just been staring at each other for the past 10 minutes. What the hell is going on here?"

I watch the anime on occasion. I am watching the "new" one (truth). I'm at like 8 minuets and they have not given any information that was not given at some point in a previous episode. Wtf guys... wtf.
I think I've seen this Sauske/Itatchi convo after he killed the Uchiha clan scene at least 6 times in the last 3 episodes...

Hay isn't this kinda a plot hole?
-Itatchi wants there to be peace because of all the violence and war he saw as a kid.
-The Uchiha where gonna rebel and bring down the Leaf... yadda yadda yadda 4th ninja war would probably start.
-Itatchi kills the Uchiha to prevent the bloodshed.
-He makes Sauske into a revenge driven person fueled by hate?????
How the ******** does that last one make sense? They say it was "so he would grow stronger"... that doesn't fit with Itatchi's reasoning.

The reason was so that he can be stronger so that he could kill Itachi himself

...but why would he want that?
I thought he was trying to end that whole killing thing. I got that it would make him more powerful... but it would take only 2 friggen brain cells to think that if you gave power to a person who's goals are "revenge" and "hate" it isn't gonna end with sunshine and a rainbow...

Itachi didn't count on Sasuke being a grade-A retard with anger issues.
Itachi's plan worked a little too well. Sasuke became such an avenger that it's all he can do now. To admit he's got nothing left in life, and that everything he's done until now was meaningless would destroy him, so he's aimlessly "avenging" anything he can think of--in the most recent case, Itachi.
Naruto the series really enjoys paralleling the difference between protecting something you love, and avenging love that has been lost.
There's also the effect love can have on a person, such as the absence of familial love (Gaara vs Naruto), the power of teamwork, the lengths you go to for love (Sakura/Sasuke/Naruto), and the value of empathizing with others (Pein/Nagato). All of these are shown in varying degrees throughout the series.
Love seems to be a major, recurring theme in Naruto. (Third to ninjas and too many flashbacks.) At least Naruto is better about "the power of friendship" than most shonen anime. *coughYuGiOhcough*
Of course, I'm probably over-thinking this. I've been out of school for too long. sweatdrop

No that's very good actually.
However I have to disagree. It seemed like Itachi's plan was to make him into an "avenger" from the start.
The rational they gave was that despite the fact that he killed his family he couldn't shatter the bonds with his younger brother.
("Bonds" is like Shippuden's theme word.)
He still loved his family and it was an impossibly hard thing to do. I think he wanted Sauske to continue on the proud heritage of the clan and there was a pride in that strength.
However, I don't think he planed it out 100% from the beginning so it came off a little disjointed at times.

PPS: I had actually considered making an "Avenger" Ninja path early on but it didn't fit well enough.
