"I'm not sure," Rayel called back, "do you also see a blue dragon?"
She took the man's arm reluctantly, pulling herself to her feet. Although the black dragon was dead, the paladin was in no hurry to leave her shelter beneath the green dragon. The being that had once been Meri was now looking at her and growling, something Rayel did not consider a good thing.

Meri continued to sing as he growled. The blood on his claws and teeth and the gore from the dead dragons was taking his focus and the rage was eating at his willpower. The frenzy was digging further into his mind than usual, but that was because he was in his dragon form and didn't have the extra layer of half-elf skin to protect him.
He continued to sing his song, growling all the time. He was not completely sure if he should give in to the frenzy or not. Something was telling him not to and something was.
His focus slowly drifted towards the people who fought the green cousin of his.

Somewhat reassured by the fact that Meri had not torn her head off yet, Rayel took her hand off her sword and held up her palms in the universal sign of peace.
"Meri," she said slowly, keeping perfectly still. The paladin found herself wishing she knew the bard better. Her eyes fell on the fire sorceress who had been speaking with him earlier, but the woman did not speak.
"Meri," Rayel repeated, feeling that she should say something, but she didn't know what. Taking a wild shot in the dark, the knight began to pray, more to calm herself than the dragon, "Sancte Michael Archangele, defende nos in proelio, contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium. Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur: tuque, Princeps militiae caelestis, Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos, qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo, divina virtute, in infernum detrude. Amen."
Belatedly Rayel realized that prayer might infuriate the dragon further. Unfortunately, she couldn't think of anything that didn't have the possibility of tipping the beast over the edge.
As the dragon continued to deliberate the knight pulled off her helmet. She had no idea whether it would work, but it had saved her life once today. Also, there was something within her that refused to die wearing a mask. If she had to die, it would be with honor.

((Good lord you make things hard to translate :XP: Having fun doing it though rofl I'm assuming it's latin, although nothing matches very often to actual latin words.))
Meri focussed on the words of the paladin. The words were the calmest prayer he had ever heard, considering the circumstances. A gargantuan creature was facing down a human sized creature and yet, she prayed.
He watched as she removed her helmet. Everything that happened in the tavern came flooding back to him. His frenzy increased as he saw the blood again, but decreased as he remembered himself healing the young man and singing the calming song.
Then he realised why the paladin's burns had not been healed. She had been burned by a dragon's fire. Only such fire could not be healed unless healed by a dragon. She was dragon marked and he realised that he could not bring himself to attack such a brave one as her.
He slowed his wing beats and gently lowered himself to the ground, careful not to land on any buildings or people. His growling subsided as his singing increased. A calming song left his maw, and then his mouth as he started to change back to his half-elf form.
His transformation was complete in a short time, as if Meri was rushing to get out of his dragon skin, or to get behind a wall. He collapsed down to his hands and knees, panting heavily.

Rayel hurriedly put her helmet back on (dying with a bare head might be noble, but if she was going to live it would be without the screaming) and went to the bard's side, wryly wondering if her face had caused a dragon to collapse.
"Do you need healing?" she asked uselessly, remembering how Meri how healed her. However, it seemed rude not to offer.

((Heh, interesting, except the link isn't working for some reason, but, I found a translation. Interesting.))
Meri shook his head, still facing down. "No, at least, not what you can offer." He slowly stood, using a chunk of rubble as a support. His head still hanging low, as if he really didn't want to look at the people he had serious thoughts of eating. He shuddered at the thought of human flesh, or flesh of any kind really. He was not part of his evil, chromatic cousins and seriously wanted it to stay that way.
He looked around and spotted his sword on the other side of the street. Stumbling over, he dropped to his knees and scooped up the weapon. The enchantments on it had faded, so it only froze the air nearby, not cut it as well.
"Ah, Yunto," he said to the sword as he picked it up and slipped it into it's sheathe.
Merithion, I know you. I also know that the frenzy is eating at you. You also know I want to stop that, for you are worthy of weilding me.
"I know Yunto, but just keep quiet for a while."
The sword shut up and Meri got to his feet again and faced the paladin. He then groaned and fell forward, the lack of energy hitting him like a wave.

Rayel looked about her, feeling extremely disconcerted. "Are you Yunto?" she asked the warrior, who shook his head. She looked back at the bard about to ask him about this Yunto to find him laying flat on the ground.
The knight looked about herself again, this time focusing on the growing mob of people. They were deadly quiet. It would be wise to move the man, and quickly. "Right," she exhaled, picking up the bard gently. Quickly she strode to the a nearby cathedral, only slightly damaged by the dragons' rampage.
"I seek sanctuary Father," she said to the tiny little man guarding the doors. He hesitated, his eyes darting from her to the advancing crowd. "Father!" Rayel snapped forcefully, pulling out her cross awkwardly with one hand, "I seek sanctuary."
The man paused, then nodded slowly. He stepped aside, allowing the knight entrance to the great stone edifice. She lay the bard down on a pew, turning brusquely to the priest. "Watch over him Father," she said, "I have work to do."
The woman returned to the outside world and without looking at the surly crowd staring stonily at the church began to clear away the rubble. Slowly the others joined her, working to rebuild the damage, carefully avoiding the great bodies of the dead dragons. Although the day grew hot and the work was hard, Rayel never removed her helmet, though she took off the rest of her armor.

Meri was led quietly past the crowd and into the cathedral. He felt the massive doors close behind him and the priest sit down next to him.
"Are you alright, son?" the little man asked. Meri shook his head. "No. I am not. I am weak and I fear that I will become what I fear." The man gave Meri a pat on the shoulder before getting up. "Would you like something to drink?" the man asked. Meri shook his head again before sighing. "A small glass of Mooth wouldn't go astray."
The priest smiled faintly. "It so happens that I can't get rid of the bottle I have. Maybe one of your tastes would appreciate it." The priest bustled off and cam back with a glass and a bottle of the light blue liquid. "Such a bitter drink for one of such talent."
Meri shrugged and sipped the offered glass. The priest sat next to the song dragon again. "May I ask your name son?" Meri chuckled lightly. "I hope you realise, priest, that I was born before your great grandfather was born. Please don't call me 'son'. My name is Meri." The priest smiled. "But that's not your dragonic name, is it?" Meri's head snapped up and his deep blue eyes focussed on the priest. "How did you know?" The priest tapped the side of his nose with a finger. "My god tells me what he wishes. Also, a four letter name is very uncommon in dragons." Meri laughed, sipped his drink and relaxed a little. "Merithion-athranus. At least, that's as close as you'll come to my name with a tounge like this." The priest smiled. "Now I see why you use Meri."
~Warping time~
Meri started breathing heavily in his sleep on the matress near the entrance to the cathedral. He tossed and turned a little, his dreams haunted by visions of the black and green dragons, and even blood and gore. The frenzy was actively trying to take him in his sleep, now that he had killed.
The sun dipped below the horizon and the town and it's folks finished dragging the two dragon carcesses out of town. There was a gully not too far from the town and the dragons had been pushed into it. A wind blew from the town, out past the smell of the rapidly decaying dragons.

Rayel returned to the cathedral, covered with sweat and dirt. She had come expecting to find the priest demanding to have Meri removed, and was pleasantly surprised. She really needed to start having more faith in people. A faint smile crossed her lips at the lame pun, then she spoke with the priest, seeing that Meri was sleeping.
"So how is he Father?" she asked, suddenly very aware that she was tracking dirt all over the church floor.
The man noticed her discomfort and smiled encouragingly. "You have been laboring all day. Surely I can manage to wash a little dirt from the floors. But this man here, other than being tired, seems to have nothing wrong with him, body or soul. You don't need to be afraid of him."
"How did you know?" she asked before she thought the better of it.
The priest's smile grew less. "You didn't stay to see if he was alright. That is not the usual way of knights sworn to protect."
"He said he didn't need healing," Rayel defended lamely, feeling her ears burn.
The priest reached out and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry," he said comfortingly, "you left him somewhere safe, and came back. But remember my child, not all wounds can be healed by magic. You should know that."
Rayel's hands flew to her helmet, and now her entire face was on fire. "Yes Father," she muttered, eyes downcast. "Please, allow me the honor of cleaning your floor."
"I deny you that honor," the man said, not unkindly. "I grant you the honor of having a bath and eating a warm meal prepared by the acolytes. It is not often we have knights here, and the young ones could use some inspiring. Go on," he shooed her off, "you will serve the church better when you are rested and fed."
Feeling only slightly better, Rayel left and took a much needed bath.

A hand rapped on the door to the cathedral and was pushed open by a small man in pale blue robes. Behind him stood a few other people, including a priestess in silver robes, a medium sized man with wings and a sorceress in rippling gold and red robes.
"How can I help you," the priest of the catherdral asked. "We need to see the dragon," the small man said in a rush. "It's very important." The priest shook his head. "Sorry, he is resting." "Not any more," Meri said from his bed. "Who are they and what do they want?" The priest glanced at Meri. "They are wizards, by the looks of them and they want to see you." Meri sighed. "Let them in."
The priest stepped aside and the small man bustled in. He glanced around and darted to Meri's side, looking down at the now sitting bard.
"Oh great dragon, we come-" "Oh shut it," Meri snapped. "I'm no great dragon. What do you want?"
The sorceress and the priestess pushed the small man out of the way. The sorceress bowed to him and the priestess curtsied. Meri glared back.
"Okay, we'll try not to keep doing that," said the sorceress. "Dragon, we bring good and bad news." Meri's eyes narrowed. "Yes?" The priestess looked worried for a second before the sorceress continued. "Bad news is that the rage will continue untill you die." Meri's breath left him in a rush. So I'm going to taste flesh. I'm going to become what I do not wish to be. A thought protruded in on his own. Merithion, you will only become what is good and right, his sword said. What a crowded brain for a dragon, said a feminine voice. Merithion-athranus. What a pretty name. Meri's eyes snapped to the priestess. Out. The priestess gave a small bow and took a step back. "Okay, so, what's this good news? That I can escape the frenzy?" Meri's voice was writ with sarcasm. "Actually, yes," the sorceress replied. "Well, we're not completely sure, but we know that the magic behind the frenzy has been tampered with and it is elven high magic."
Meri slowly stood, the group taking a collective step back. The winged man folded his arms and stayed where he was, now at the front of the group. Meri focussed on him.
"A magical sword for one of your nature. Interesting." The man nodded and the sorceress steped back up to his side. "Hurn, sush," she said. "There are a few places that a person of your talents would be able to get to easier than us. We need you."

Rayel watched quietly from the shadows, holding a tray of food in her hands. She knew she should step out and reveal herself, but she didn't want to be sent away. So she listened, hoping very much that God would forgive her.

Meri shook his head and lent against a pew. He sighed.
"Everyone seems to need me." He shook his head and sighed. "Okay, I'll do it, but only because I don't want to be a dracolich." A couple of wizards muttered amongst themselves. A smug grin crossed the face of Hurn and a frown landewd on the small mans face. "What makes you say that, master bard?" Hurn asked. Meri looked up and into his eyes. "Because, after meeting Kranthas, I understood why he took undeath over life." The muttering increased again. The sorceress stepped in front of Hurn. "And why did he offer you eternal un-life?" "Because he want's to rule the world with an army of dracolich's at his side." Meri frowned and turned his head towards the paladin in the shadows. He stared at her for a second before staring at the assembled wizards. Some of the group glanced at the paladin. They automatically assumed that she was watching them to make sure they didn't do anything non-sacred.
"To be dead is to not have the urges of life and to have more power than before. But for one of my kind to become a draco lich? That is unacceptable, even in extreme circumstances." "Remember what you just said bard," the priestess said. "It might save your life one day." Meri nodded. "I'll go to where you want, but I get to choose who comes with me and how I do it." A few of the wizards scowled, but most nodded. "We'll be in my tower, researching what we have," said the little man. "It's the one north of the town." Meri nodded and watched as the wizards started filing out of the cathedral. He sighed and turned to the silent knight.
"Are you going to let your dinner get cold?" he asked as he sat back down on the matress and took of his belt, dumping the sword on the ground next to him.

"Actually, it's yours," Rayel said, putting the tray down beside him. "I've already eaten." She shut her mouth abruptly, as if to stop her flood of questions from pouring forth. Who was Kranthas? What were dragonlichs?

Meri smiled faintly at the knight. "Thank you," he said as he started to eat slowly.
After a moment he looked up at the silent knight. He stared at her for a moment, chewing on a slightly tough piece of meat. He swallowed. "What would you like to know that you don't already?" he asked her, his voice level. "Why I chose this body? Who's Kranthas? Why I didn't become a dracolich to escape the frenzy? What is your pleasure to know?"
