"Really?" Vergil tucked away that information in his mind, to be remembered and used when the need arose. It seemed to him that coming here had been a good thing ... he was already learning so much that he had never learned before in his full year of life.

"Really, everyone has a fear, it just might not be as obvious to some," Cindy replied.

It would be a foolish thing not to have a fear, or if one had not, they hadn't lived long enough yet.

Vergil looked up at Cindy as they walked. "What is your fear, Mother?" he asked her softly. "The giants are very big, do they also fear something?"

In a place like this he couldn't imagine any sort of fear. It was a beautiful place, and to him it seemed very peaceful. What possible danger could there be?

"It depends," Cindy murmured as she made her way down the well worn trail.

She had to think about it, fears weren't something people thought about unless they were confronted with it every day.

"I would guess losing those close to me, that's a fear most people have."

Vergil nodded. He understood that kind of fear. It was after all the one that he himself shared.

"I don't want to be left alone again," he murmured quietly, "like when my brother left me."

He looked up at Cindy, his eyes anxious. "You won't leave me alone, will you, Mother?"

"No, I won't. Not like that," Cindy assured him.

Though she hoped he wasn't too traumatized by being left alone. She knew some children would cling after something like that. Though it was hard to tell with Vergil.

Vergil's face split in a smile, and he hugged Cindy as well as he could from his position in her arms. "Then I'm not scared of anything," he murmured into her chest. "As long as I'm not alone, there's nothing to be scared of."

He looked around a bit. "So where are we, anyways? The giant said something about a Borderlands ... what's that mean? A border for what? Are we still in the same place where the library is?"
PostPosted: Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:55 pm

"This whole area is called the Borderlands, it's in a different world than the library you were in," Cindy explained, "I'll show you a map later so you can see."

She supposed it would be hard to explain otherwise how large sections of land were divided into areas.

"Are there other lands around here?" Vergil asked curiously. "Is it all woodish like this? Are there animals here? Is this a world of giants? How did you end up here? You're not a giant ... did you come from another world too?"

He was curious, wanting to know everything about the land where he had found himself, and where he was going to be spending in all likelihood the rest of his life.

"No, from my understanding there are other places, like places full of sand and such," Cindy replied, "But it isn't a world just full of elves, and that is what they are, not giants. There are humans and dwarves also, but... you will probably not get to see them."

Not since there was a lot of tension between races.

"But I come from Gaia, the world that the library was in."

"Elves?" Vergil questioned. "But they're so tall ... are you really sure they're not giants? They're really big ..."

He paused. "Does this world belong to the elves, then?" he asked curiously.

"Elves are supposed to be tall, and while they are the major race, the world doesn't belong to anyone. Unless you mean to all the people who live in it," Cindy replied softly.

She didn't want Vergil to think that a world could belong to one race or another. She supposed it was hard to explain when they were the odd ones out.

"But doesn't the land belong to anyone?" Vergil asked, confused now. "If it didn't belong to anyone, then how do you know where everyone is supposed to live? The land has to belong to someone or else someone else can just come in and tell them to move! Can't they?"

Because if it belonged just to the person living there, then anyone could come, push those people out, and live there instead of them, if they wanted to.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 10, 2009 7:27 pm

"Well.... I guess when people come down to settle it does belong to them, but if no one has settled in the land it doesn't really belong to anyone," Cindy replied, "We live out in the middle of nowhere, not in a city. Cities and towns are a different matter all together."

She wondered though how Vergil gained such a sort of pushy point of view.

"Well no, you can't just come in and tell people to move from where they are living, that would be mean and rude."

"Well that's what I mean," Vergil shrugged. "If no one owns the land then it just gets chaotic! That's why someone has to own it. Just like things, if people don't own their things then what right do they have to stop anyone from taking it away from them?"

To him, everything had to have an owner.
