The necklace glowed a little, and nothing happened for almost a minute. Until
the the ruby peirced the neck, and a voice began talking inside of Renu's head.
"Oh always a pleasure to have someone join the ranks." The voice mused."Don't struggle, it'll only numb your mind faster."

Ernst started to walk towards his cabin, but this time with haste. He didn`t want to have another encounter with one of those beings, not at all.
When he reached his home, he bolted the door behind him, and spread the crystals onto his work desk. "Now, what can I do with these. . .?" the inventor muttered, tapping a pencil against the desk.
His eyes turned to a dusty old book that he rarely ever used. A book on Alchemy. "I wonder . . ." After a few hours of intense studying, he finally prepared a rig to put the crystals in and, holding his breath, he turned it on. With any luck, the crystals would reactivate because of some magical qualities that had been reintroduced.

Renu Panicked immediately as the necklace stabbed into him, he curse loudly saying multiple strings of profanities, until the voice told him not to struggle. Instead he dropped his bag of moths to the ground and gave himself distance so he could generate a large amount of electricity. The resulting bolts created quite the light show, and just as the voice said he began to feel numb.
"Aw hell, can we talk about this?!"
he drew the magnum and pressed the barrel against the ruby, however if the bullet pierced the ruby he'd have a massive hole in his chest. Renu sighed and said
"FML."

The crystals hummed loudly, and then a small portal opened up. It was only for a second, but the results were chaotic with nothing to keep the portal from going everywhere.
Otherworldly plants shot out from it, a large amount of old minted coins heaped from it, and a ball and chain nearly slammed into the inventors head.
It seems you might understand the crystals true purpose: Powering a gateway.

The necklace tightened around Renu with every word.

Renu exhaled in a rather frustrated tone,
"Normally I'd ask if I was getting paid, but seeing as I don't have a much of a choice in this situation, please do tell me what exactly I have to do?"

Ernst grinned when the crystals started to hum again. "Aha! You`re not so secret anymore!"
But just as soon as those words left his mouth, he found himself have to duck an assault by a multitude of objects, which wreaked havoc on his tightly packed laboratory.
Ernst blinked when the chaos stopped, and looked back at the crystals warily. He quickly disconnected them from the source of power. These matters would better be left to the couple that he had met in the forest. They seemed more capable with magic. He`d have to tell them.
But in the meanwhile, he took notes about his curious discovery, formulating and creating new inventions that might help him rid his beautiful Black Forest from the invaders.

To be Honest Renu thought this was insanity, he didn't even know these people, but this stupid necklace was feeding him every tiny bit of information about them.
"Why exactly am I trying to kill these people?"

Renu moved towards his bag of moths, and opened it letting them free.
"Besides these three that you sent me after, look pretty tough, I don't think a simple bullet or electrical field is going to do anything."

The necklace began pumping energy into Renu.

Renu's eyes widened as the numbing sensation began to effect him,
"Gah, stop that!"
as it faded and the voice gave him a new power he began to feel cold, his body pulsed with dark energy and Renu in a state of confused fear said to himself
"Oh dear god what have I gotten myself into?"
as the energy continued to flow he asked
"And how exactly am I to get there? Also can I get a name for when I kill these people?"

" The necklace will guide you towards my encampment, we have one portal working, go through it, and you'll be there, relax it's perfectly safe." The voice said impatiently."I'll give you a name, but you must complete the task first of course."

Renu dropped an F-bomb, and rolled his eyes,
"Fine."
As he followed the Necklace's sensation of guiding him to the portal he couldn't help but feel like this was another suicide mission. To be honest he had hoped for a simple place to live and an honest job of mercenary work, nothing suicidal, but chaotic at the least.
When he got to the encampment he was rather horrified at all the workers, it reminded him of historical images he had seen of concentration camps and his own personal experiences in the Soviet compound. His eyes narrowed as a hidden anger sparked, he spotted the portal, and simply walked through it.

A small speck of darkness circled overhead, coasting on thermals that rose from the clearing. Its sharp eyes scanned the earth below as if hunting, but the red-tailed hawk was not hungry for mice.
Rather, it was hungry for information.
