Altik_0 I'm pretty much new... but I have played it a bit. I just have yet to buy a deck... Any suggestions for a starter deck to buy? I don't have much money, so I can't just go buy a hundred packs and hope for something good, unfortunately... gonk My suggestion for precons: If you really have to, get an Army of Justice deck or two, along with Way of the Warrior. You can make something semi-decent by combining certain cards in the decks.

My suggestion for any player: Go to tournaments. I was at one, and quite frankly, I got my a** kicked. One dude told me better stuff to put in next time I enter a tournament. Another one also gave advice. I learned a lot about control decks that night. So go to turnaments. Trade and learn.

Been looking over the most recent replies and a lot of new players asking about what decks to buy, so here's a bit of my own experience.
If you're going to buy a premade deck, buy one that teaches you something. I myself started using one of the published world tournement winning decks a friend gave me, and while at first I wasn't able to understand how all the cards were ment to be used I gradually began to understand the stratigies the player who made the deck was employed, and why he chose them over others.
More recently I find myself learning about each new expansion by going through the theme decks and picking ones that appeal to me. Each theme deck created by wizards contains a little insert explaining how the particular strategy of that deck works, often times pointing to not so obvious nuances in the rules that allow for devesting combos you might never thought of before, such as the one I learned about sacrificing the nightmare monsters the moment the come into play to permenantly remove an oppnants card from the game while gaining a benifit from whatever I used to sacrifice the creature.
Once you've played around with a theme decks a bit and found one you liked here's another liitle secret: The theme decks ALWAYS could use improvement. Starting from a theme deck of your choice try going to the extreme with finding cards that compliment it's strategy. I know that's what my little brother did with a whimpy elf themed deck from legions. He added more and more and more elves and cards that buffed creatures of all the same type to it, and then used it to kick my a** a few times until I got the hint and started playing decks aimed at whiping out huge hoards of creatures.
Hope that little rant helps.

I'm relitively new here and to the game. I guess y'all will consider me a newb but I hardly think so.
I've been playing for about 15 months I want to say. I've never had any truly good opponents very often because the only time I had anyone good was in my first few months before they all graduated and moved on to college, I was left behind. anyway I learned from ym now ex boyfriend who had been playing for I think seven years, and then from 4 of our freinds, total experience probably 32 years. Then I learned technique, and faking out from my brother, played for 10 years. I've adapted my own technique and would apreciate any further help I could gather from strangers who don't hold a grudge to.
Anywway, currently I use a life drain, black white deck. I prefer to balence opposites and I dislike how the other colors play, so it's pointless to fet me to cut off both black and white. How ever I was wondering firstly is my deck concept good? and secondly is there a more apropriate combination of colors I could use to the same effect.

A friend of mine uses a black white leech deck built primarily from the Ravenica block. Souls of the Faultless and Agent of Masks are irratatingly good. Douse of Gloom and Orzhov Assassins are good ways to clear out meaty monsters that can actually take out your Faultless. Teysa and Vampire Skeleton are a good combo winnie blockers that can reproduce enough to remove permanents from play. If I don't get control quickly I usually find myself getting smashed for alittle damage here or there and his life just going up and up with no way to counter.

Life Drain, is primarily black, but seeing that Life is always associated with White. A Life Drain deck is correct in being Black/White. Black / White is actually my favorite color combination in Magic, in has Artifact/Enchantment defense, Mass Creature Removal, Single Creature Removal, host of good creatures, creature recycling and card advantage.

My advice to you all is to wait for Planar Choas to be released then go crazy on that set. Cause some really crazy cards are about to come out. Save your money for now

Hi there. I am sort of new to the whole MTG thing. Someone told me it was like Yugioh.....but I read the rules and found the website online. I never played anyone in a match before.....and just recently.....my grandmother threw my entire deck away.....X3
Okay, dont laugh. I had a great blue and white deck...I thought....then she got rid of all my cards. Anyone here who can help me out.....or teach me what to do and not to do when it comes to a blue and white deck? ^^ Thank you so much.

I am so very new to this game. Red/black and green were the decks that I had to play. I also had a blue/white deck that I played but I would love to gain new knowledge from more experienced players.

Um I'm really new to magic, I don't even know the rules or anything. But I'm trying my best to learn, I bought a theme deck and I'm probobly going to practice playing with my friends. Unfortunatly they only gave me 40 cards in my blue only deck. So I'm going to look around to find any cards that I could add on in. If anyone would mind helping me out if I have any questions it'd be greatly appretiated.

Anyone know much about MTG online software? I've been trying out the official MTG online (for free). . . getting my a** handed to me but learning.
I would like to play online as my allergies are keeping me in the house and away from a lot of activities. . . but my overall feeling is that I don't think the pricing is fair with MTG online. . . I mean you're getting no physical cards and paying the same thing. And if some A-hole comes along and says you were violating the TOS there's no reason they can't just kick you off and bbye cards and much money (whether it was true or not).
I'm using Win98 until next month. If that helps any.
