Kara was about to say something when Hope began to fuss. She peeked under the towel to see that her little girl had finished, or so it seemed.
"As far as we can tell," Kara murmured as she lifted Hope up, "Though we still have to always ask how long it's been and no one has sat down to see if the passage of time between worlds are consistent in differences."
Once Hope was ready she handed her to Haradhel to see if they could switch children.
"It's not an issue of control, it's an issue of how high off the ground she is when it stops working," Ryu explained, "Feng and I couldn't hold our spells for long just because it takes up a lot of will power, energy.. control, but it isn't that far of a fall from our children heights. For Naida to fly, she's much higher off the ground which is why I'd rather she learn to walk."
"I don't mind," Feng murmured, "I know it can be a problem but I also know I would have done the same if I had thought of doing that too."
"That's because you're insane."

Haradhel passed Faith to Kara and took Hope carefully from her. "It's about time someone sat down to do that," she smiled. "After all, how long has it been since you've been coming here? Decades, I know that much. Since before the ranch was founded - or even before Aliya was born, according to Ulani and Ulrich."
Aliya laughed. "Well, look at it this way," she grinned at Ryu. "If you would let her do it on her own, and she fell, she would learn to stay closer to the ground until she was better at it. Doesn't that make sense? She's at the age where her physical harm won't be as bad as if she were older or younger, and it would teach her a lesson and you wouldn't have to worry so much."
The wisdom that came with being a mother and grandmother.

"Well....." Kara had to think about it, it had been a few good years already.
Probably longer since they visited the Borderlands several times already and stayed there for a good two solar months almost.
"The first visit we had here was back when Elnara returned home for the first time.... and that was a long while ago. That was long before they had Aliya..."
Back when their son was still alive, Kara thought a bit sadly.
"Or she could be like Feng and just bounce right back," Ryu gave his sister a dirty look. Feng on the other hand looked like the picture of innocence, "I didn't do anything that bad when we were children." "Oh really?"
Honestly, in a way Naida falling would be mild compared to say Feng who mailed them in a huge fish tank. He still didn't understand how she managed it.

Elnara looked over at the others as she heard her name. "Well ... bringing me home, Gion was eighteen at the time," she recalled, "so it couldn't have been later than 20 or 21." She paused. "No, 25. He's a few years younger than Elrohir, I had forgotten."
Haradhel blinked. "Then it's already been seventy years," she told them, her eyes wide with wonder. "So long ..."
Aliya grinned. "So let her keep doing it," she told him. "She'll learn eventually. If you keep running after her like that, she won't learn, and she won't stop - and then when she gets older, too big for you to catch, she still won't have learned, and you'll both be getting hurt."

Seventy years was a long time and Kara's eyes widen at the thought. She didn't think it was going to be that long of a time, but then again it sort of made sense seeing as a good number of the children had children.
"And it has to have been only three or four years back in Gaia," Kara mused.
She tried to remember how long it was...
"Actually probably only three at most."
"Yea, that's what mother did," Feng nodded. "And do you realize how much trouble we got into?" Ryu shot back. Feng stared back at her brother like he sprouted another head, "We're still alive aren't we?"
It was probably Feng's fault that Ryu was a bit overprotective. He remembered his childhood which was full of insanity, and Naida was really no different. Like the mini waterfall episode.
"Uncle Ryu, I want down," Naida pouted, "Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee?"

Elnara looked over her shoulder at Kara. "Three years," she agreed. "That was when I first arrived in Gaia. It feels like so much longer ... probably because of how much time I've been spending in this world after all. A year's honeymoon and all, plus the visit to the Southland ... and all the visits in between ..."
Aliya laughed. "Feng's got a point, Ryu," she grinned. "Come on, it's just her transportation out of the water. Give her a break."
She reached over and put one hand on Naida's head, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Would anyone care for a drink?"

Kara found Faith to be a bit more fussy than Hope, at least until she started sucking. Maybe she thought Faith got hungry more easily than Hope she pondered on this as she listened to Elnara's own comment on the time difference.
"Yes, we stay here for at least two months at a time," Kara replied referring to herself and Donovan and the various children, "And I have no clue now how many times Lin has been visiting."
She lost track a long time ago actually.
"Something tasty!" Naida exclaimed. Feng giggled, "Naida isn't picky, but anything that isn't water is a novelty for her now."
The mers mainly drank waters because of what they were but when Naida found out that there were liquids that weren't exactly water that was tasty well that interested her.

"Well, and then you get into the problem of the difference in methods of telling time," Elnara pointed out. "The years are mostly the same, but the months are so different in length, and even the weeks don't match up."
Haradhel had known about the months being longer in the Four Lands, but she hadn't known about the weeks. "How so?" she asked curiously, holding Hope to her shoulder and rubbing her back slowly.
Elnara turned to Haradhel. "Well, the weeks in Gaia are seven days," she explained, "with two days as the weekend, where many people have off work." Though Lore still often went in to the library, but she had given up on trying to get him to take more time off.
Aliya laughed. "Something tasty," she grinned, heading towards the kitchen. "Well come on, we'll see what we can find for you, how does that sound?"
She had a feeling that Naida wouldn't be allowed to have wine - the Gaians seemed a bit strict about their children having wine - but there was plenty of cider in the cellar, and even fresh milk ...

"Which is why we can only make a guess," Kara murmured, "Like in theory we say a year here is about a week back home..."
Then again she thought Elnara and Lore stayed for about a year, so what day of the week did you get back.
"How much of your off time did you have left when you returned home?" Kara asked Elnara.
Even though it was a long while now, so who knew if Elnara remembered.
Before Ryu could tell Naida to behave she was already off again, trying to follow Aliya via flying. He sighed and followed the two with Feng giggling right behind him.
Fortunately whatever fears he had were unfound, Naida was smart when she didn't want to do something crazy and landed on the table before she could fall. Granted she landed with a thud but at least she landed.

Elnara tilted her head a bit as she looked at Kara. "I thought it was two weeks to a year," she commented. "When Lore and I got back, it was the weekend before Lore had to return to work ... but I was off work permanently, remember? With the twins being so young and all ..."
She felt a bit guilty having Yukito taking on her workload as well now, but it had been that way in the beginning as well, and she had a family to take care of now.
Aliya heard the thud as she headed down into the cellar, and she turned around and stuck her head back into the kitchen. "You're too big to be on the table now," she told Naida firmly, but with a smile. "Chair for you."
As she disappeared down into the cellar again, the front door opened and footsteps could be heard. "Nana?"

"Well..... when your mother stayed with us.. I think she stayed for two weeks but it was way over a year when she got back. Originally she was only going to stay a week so she could be back in time for Daeron's yearly visit and since she left when he was having one of those visits and she missed it...."
It suggested two weeks was more than a year... Kara blinked but then that meant...
"Oh dear... I think this is more of a mess than we originally thought."
Naida looked at the table and saw how spread out she was on said table before looking up, "Okay!"
She wiggled her butt a bit until she fell neatly into a chair. The sound of a falling fish tail hitting wood was a bit of an odd sound.
"Hello?" Ryu and Feng paused on their way to the kitchen to see who was coming in.
Or rather Feng made a beeline for the door instead because she wanted to see who it was.

Elnara shook her head. "Well, I've never been one to keep track, so I'll trust your word on that," she murmured. "It does make things a bit more difficult though ... for figuring things out, I mean."
Haradhel couldn't help but laugh at that. "Well, I stick to one world, so it all makes sense for me," she smiled. "Honestly, we all love when we get visits, but I don't know how you manage to keep your sanity about you. Time changes and differences and never knowing when you're going to end up here or when you're going to end up back home, or not even knowing how old you are - which I believe was the question the last time Elnara was here."
Elnara blushed. "Yes, it was."
When the door opened, it was Alyse who was standing there - but it wasn't her who had opened the door, it was a little girl about half Feng's height. She had Alyse's blue-violet eyes and tanned skin, but her hair was a dark brown with lighter highlights. On the back of one hand, there was a patch of darker skin, almost brown - a birthmark in the rough shape of a bird - or at least, so she liked to claim.
Alyse's eyes lit up when she saw Feng. "Oh!" she exclaimed. "Hello! Welcome back! When did you get here?"
The little girl was about to run inside, but when she saw Feng and Ryu between her and the doorway, she turned around and hid behind Alyse's skirt instead. The top of her face was visible as she peered around Alyse's legs, and her hand, the one with the birthmark, clutched tightly at the fabric of her skirt.

"Well going home isn't so bad," Kara replied as she felt Faith stop feeding, "No matter what so far time has not changed that much. It's here where things get a bit strange and there's always catching up to do and we never know what time of day."
She looked at Elnara and laughed a bit at that as she lifted Faith and to rub her back. Not before making sure she was decent and putting a towel over that shoulder.
"How old anyone is tends to be the question, ah speaking of old how is Cindy doing. I had suspected that Rhea is beyond grown up by now, but she hasn't come back. Unless the plant life here keeps her, you could spend many decades here and probably not cover all of the plant life."
And Kara could only imagine what experiences Cindy had been doing since then. Hopefully nothing explosive.
Donovan was making good time heading back the way he came to get to Ulani and Ulrich's. He wondered if he had time to stop by and see how Cindy was doing (or ask when she was coming home). While it had only been several months it's weird not having any of the kids there for several months. He then sourly though he was going to have to get use to that one day.
"A while ago," Ryu replied all the while putting a hand on his sister's shoulder to remind her she couldn't glomp other people's kids. Feng was utterly smitten with the little girl, "She's so cute! What's her name?"

Haradhel kept rubbing Hope's back gently. "Well, to be honest, we don't see much of Rhea or Cindy out this way," she admitted. "I would suspect that they'll be doing little experiments with Rhea's magic ... to my knowledge they still haven't found a limit to what she can do. Even Aragost says that he's never seen such magic, not since the Valar and the Maiar lived among our kind."
Elnara blinked. "Considering that they created the world," she murmured, "that's impressive."
Ulani and Ulrich were both inside the house, Ulani working in the kitchen while Ulrich sat in the living room and whittled away at a block of wood. Ulrich looked up, hearing the sound of footsteps in the thin layer of snow outside the door, and lowered his carving to his lap, waiting for the knock that he knew would be coming.
Alyse giggled and turned around, picking up the little girl and holding her on her hip. "Feng, Ryu, this is my daughter, Jasmine. Jasmine," she murmured, "you know Mama's told you stories of Feng and Ryu, Nako's friends?"
Jasmine looked at the two of them, then turned and buried her face in Alyse's shoulder shyly.

Impressive and a bit scary Kara thought, well not scary for her but it must be a bit scary to not know one's limits.
"Then Cindy will be here for a while yet then, she would find this utterly fascinating no doubt."
Just as well, Cindy had the knowledge to know what was possible (at least for home) so it was a good way for them to see how far they could take Rhea's magic. She mused on this, perhaps she should visit she thought as the twins hiccuped.
Donovan stopped in front of their door, shaking off the cold before knocking. Even with his black trench coat it was a bit chilly. He wasn't willing to admit this, but this was the real reason why he could wear a trench coat in all sorts of weather, it didn't get hot that easily.
"Hi hi!" Feng waved cutely, "She so cute....... You know I Naida is around your age now." "Or as close as a Second could get," Ryu muttered, "We were heading to the kitchen, Naida is already there."
