"Thank you."

Staff back in hand, he examined for any signs of damage. It looked fine, considering it hadn't hit Jaren when she tried to strike him. He lowered the staff and grinned back up at Mel.

"It's fine. Don't worry about it." he said calmly.

He then blinked when she asked about Darko. He glanced at the imp sitting on his shoulder. Darko looked back at him, before attempting to nibble on his hair. He lifted a finger up to stop the imp from munching on the red hair, then reached over to the table to feed the little guy a cracker.

"This is Darko. He my trusty little companion I saved during my time out in the wilderness, after the Tura incident." he said, introducing the others to the imp.

Tristai needn't have bothered to signal the town watch... it was rather hard to miss the sight of fisticuffs, or the sound of someone's loud laughter erupting across the floor. Several guardsmen were headed their way, donned in well-polished armor. On each suit of armor was the crest of Learania, catching the bright lights of chandeliers above to give a slightly awe-inspiring effect.

But just as they arrived at the scene, looking ready to arrest someone (likely starting with the man lying on the ground), a guardswoman appeared, spreading her arms out to signal them to halt.

"Hold a moment," she said. "You don't see Sir Leon behind me? The situation's under control. Go back to your posts."

"Yes, milady Charice," the middle guard replied, guiding the other men back to their posts.

Charice herself appeared to be dressed as a "musketeer", which was arguably about as much of a costume as a soldier guarding the party could hope for. Black boots and long white pants led upwards to a dark blue vest with the Learanian crest emblazoned over the center. Underneath was a long shite-sleeved gray shirt; at her hip was a sword in its scabbard; and on her head was a wide-brimmed brown hat. It made her look a bit masculine, but there was no mistaking the chest.

She turned around, and faced Leon.

"Honestly, Lieutenant, you're on duty even when you're not," she said with a slight grin on her face. "Things are under control here, I trust? I'd seriously hate to have someone thrown out so soon," she added, glancing at Derrin and Jaren. But she seemed a bit keener to take the topic of conversation back to lighter things, and then said, "So! What have you been up to this past week?"

Annis the Raven

PostPosted: Sun Oct 04, 2009 6:59 pm

User ImageThe hands I'd kept clean
Now look dirty
Before I can doubt my memories
My memories are doubting me...

Annis was starting to enjoy herself, at least a little bit. The strange party-crashing man was being handled quite easily, and the food was damn good. Annis quietly ate a small finger sandwich, wondering what exactly was in the filling. Tastes... I can't even tell, but it's good. Is my sense of taste that bad? Annis thought about this, eating a second. Kind of sweet... eh, who cares. It tastes good, that's what matters.

Annis had picked up another meatball and was about to bite into it when she heard footsteps towards her. She lifted her eyes to find a well-muscled, tanned hawk approaching her, carrying a small plate with a generous pile of fried meat on it. Annis fumbled the meatball, very nearly dropping it onto her cleavage, but instead it fell onto the floor, rolling underneath the tablecloth and out of sight.

"Th-The Hawk King," Annis breathed, looking very surprised to find the man standing right in front of her, not to mention talking to her. The pink flush on her face darkened to a warm red, and Annis folded her arms awkwardly over her front, covering the skin her shirt refused to reach.

Damn you, Large! Damn you!

Slowly she was regaining her composure, but the flush was only barely lightening, even as her voice steadied itself. "Ye...Yes, I do. Near the edge, but... but still in Eyris. I work mostly outside of the city..." Annis glanced to the side, where a little brown-haired girl was being lead off by a purple-haired woman (or was she also a little girl? The purple-haired one was rather short, too, but nowhere near the brunette's meager height), then back to the Hawk King. Why's he even talking to me, anyway?!

"A-And yes, it's Annis," she added belatedly. She thought of the formal atmosphere, and even as her blush darkened for just a brief moment, she unfolded her arms to grasp her skirt with one hand and, holding the other over her front, curtsied in silence.

It was probably safest to show the Hawk King some respect, but it wouldn't exactly look respectful to show off more cleavage than a streetwalker.

"Are you enjoying yourself?" Annis asked. Her face had finally reverted to its normal color. "You... look great. Really."

~Ninian~

Ninian slowly entered the grand ballroom. She knew she was late, but better late than never, and she had had a bit of trouble getting up the stairs even though she had decided against wearing heels; she did not think she was healed enough to wear them just yet. it was bad enough that she still needed to keep a bandage over her eye, and with such short notice she had not been able to find anything that would both cover the bandages and match the black dress she had chosen. Even though she did not think herself ready to dance yet, she had not been able to stop herself from reaching for the familiar scarf. however, instead of the sheer white one she normally had on hand, she decided to bring the one Siegell had given her so many months ago, its dark fabric complimenting her dress.

She walked gingerly around the edges of the room, searching for a familiar face. She had heard someone important from a neighboring country was supposed to be here, but she had not heard who, or if she had, she did not remember who the person was supposed to be.

Finally she located Roy, and Nils standing close by her son, amidst the sea of people, almost missing them due to their costumes. At first her instincts told her to run, but that would be folly, especially after she had just up and disappeared a few months prior. She hesitated for a moment before slowly approaching her family.

As she got closer, she realized that Roy seemed to be involved in some sort of fight. Fortunately, other people joined in, and the fight was quickly broken up. The gave her a brief sense of relief, but it was time to face the music, so to speak.

She took a step closer, taking a deep breath.

"H-hello, Roy, N-Nils," she said softly.

>{Leon}<

"Honestly, Lieutenant, you're on duty even when you're not." "Wha..." Leon was taken aback by the comment, mostly because it was entirely true. No matter where he was, he was bound by his sense of chivalry to jump in and save someone if they needed it. Leon had been accused by unnamed redheaded heroes of his respective squad of being 'more wound up than a boy's toy soldier', but still!

"Eh, th' sit'ation called for it, Charice. Dun' want partygoers gettin' hurt, ya know?" He said, his tone already easing after the scene had calmed down, and he walked away from it to speak to his fellow watch member. The subject also turned to a much lighter tone. It was a talk of his vacation, the much needed one after the incidents regarding the madman Tura. "Oh, las' week? T'was great. Saw one o' them bards, who tol' th' legends o' Learania. Then me an' Magnet went explorin' th' town in the middle o' th' week, ate at tha' new cafe own'd by Hatmon."

He explained it in a tone of pure joy now, as if he were re-living the entire week all over again. "Then I went an' helped Leena wi' 'er forges.. and at th' end... we carved them pumpkins I told 'er to put out t'day. A great week, I tell ya, Charice. Ya should take one off yerself soon."

Shinon opened the gates of the entrance and walked towards the doors. He knocked thrice and waited.

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"
"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

Cue theme music. BAM!
Vaida sneaked down the hallway that led to the kitchen, staying close to the sides of the wall. She carried a fairly large container in her arms. She moved carefully and swiftly. She was on a mission. As she rounded the corner of the hallway, the door to the kitchen was in site. She was going to make it!

Suddenly, the doors opened, and one of the chefs emerged. "Oh shi-!" Vaida quickly dashed into the conveniently located never used sub hallway, jutting out from where she stood. ...Except there wasn't one there. The chef who came out took one look at Vaida, and knew exactly what she was doing. He had been warned of her, most likely. So, Vaida punched him in the face, knocking him out cold. Quite subtle.

She then made her way to the doors of the kitchen. She stood in front of the entrance, having succeeded in her mission. She then thrust the doors open, and walked in. She laughed aloud, thinking that she would have her way at last. But then she heard the noise of a winged man she recognized far too well. "....Dammit."

Mihira scuttled into the ballroom quietly, holding her gown up, to make it easier for her to walk. She looked around, not really knowing what to do. After all, she didn't know that many people yet. Even in the Guard, most of the soldiers were faceless. It's kind of sad to call your only friends those ones...

In any case, she decided she wouldn't look as awkward, if she were getting some food and drink, so she made her way over to a table with food. When she got there, she realized there was somebody eating very.... well, he seemed to have quite the appetite. She leaned over, trying to see who it was, and when she discovered the man's identity, she squealed, and covered her mouth quickly. She then took a few steps back and shyly hid behind a pillar, and blushed. She hoped he didn't see her. What would she have done, if he talked to her? There was no way she'd be able to talk to him.. Not to Heath.

Completly ignored Jaren looked crestfallen for a moment before grinning again. He wasn't sure if he was ignored or if she hadn't heard. He shurgged. And turned away to face Derrin. "Uh Derrin... you don't look so good."

Derrin indeed did not look good. His face was bright red and a vein was standing out in his forehead as it useually did when dealing with Jaren for certain amounts of time. "You got me in trouble again you dolt!" he seethed attempting to quell the homicidal impulses that raged within him.

Jaren didn't really care for all of a sudden yet another fine figure had approched. "Ahh!" He exclaimed. "Well you are the most beutiful thing I have laid eyes on." He said to Ninian.

As Jaren stood there a sudden flash came to mind. And he was striken with a strange impulse. Jaren is sometimes given unto strange thoughts... compelled to do them he has absoultly no choice in the matter. Said impulses useually involved him doing something monumentally stupid or causing trouble of some sort.... Derrin swore it was like a 6th sense. "Uhh errm I-I'll be right back. He said suddenly dashing off.

Joshua had watched the entire exchange with some intrest. Decideing to walk over he stood behind the angry mage. "Is he like this all the time?" The swordmaster asked.

"Always" Derrin nodded.

"Sounds tough..." Joshua relized that this man wasn't the most socible of people so instead he walked away from the mage and up to Roy. "That was a pretty heavy kick before." He said trying to strike up a conversation.

Upon seeing a familiar face walk in, Ziaram had been lounging around along a wall, away from everyone. Yet as soon as Joshua appeared, he figured he better get social, so he walked over there. "Hoi, seems you are getting a feeling of being here."

A knock at the door. Someone who did not know he could simply walk in? Soren turned his head and fixed his eyes upon the entrance, silently regarding that part of the chamber with a most cold glare. Such an individual was either overly polite or overly shy.

No one had taken notice of him thus far, and no one seemed to notice that someone was requesting entry. The mage quietly glided forward, momentarily leaving the crowd that had hidden him and becoming more conspicuous to those nearby. Still, strangers did not spare a passing glance. His earring swayed gently as he moved, so far away from the door...

...He was suddenly in front of it. How? Had he not been at the other side of the great hall a moment ago?

He said nothing, did nothing. He didn't seem to notice. Soren flung open the door in an almost impatient manner, the light glinting off of his earring and amulet. For a moment his piercing eyes fell upon Shinon. How charming. The mage showed not an inkling of emotion, not a hint of recognition. He stood there, arms outstretched for half a second after he'd thrown the doors apart...

...And the next time Shinon blinked, Soren would suddenly be gone, suddenly at the far end of the great hall, lounging somewhere and having a cup of wine. Unnoticed. Invisible. In peace.

User ImageAfter the arrival of Songhua, Sophia had quickly made her escape of the social scene, but made sure not to stray too far. One never knew who might decide to arrive at the party or need her assistance. She had never really been one to do things for her own benefit, being much too shy to assert herself enough. It didn’t take long for her presence and services to be required. The guests had already started arriving and mingling when she was suddenly called for. “Ah, yes?” She squeaked, her head snapping up in attention.

Hastily she picked herself up from where she had been seated on the stairs leading to the next floor up. In her hands was a pristine white staff with a blue orb on the top of it. The staff wasn’t just for show though, it was a sleep staff should things get too rowdy and someone needed to be put under. Sophia like the others had dressed for the occasion. She had been adorned with a long-sleeve, dark blue dress, and a light blue shawl to go over it. Nino had lent her various accessories, since she lacked anything of the sort. Dusting her dark blue skirt off quickly, she hurried down the stairs to where Tibarn and Blossom stood. Sophia’s lavender eyes gave Blossom a quick look over, guessing to why she had been called before Tibarn even began speaking.

“O-oh, yes, yes,” Sophia responded, the dress in question quickly coming to mind. It wouldn’t be too hard to fix it up for Blossom to wear as Tibarn had said. Sophia could have her in it and fixed up before anyone even noticed her absence. She head bobbed up and down a few more times as she listened to Tibarn before he headed off for other tasks.

“Um, Blossom, was it? I-if… you could follow me,” Sophia said, just loud enough for the fellow girl to hear her above the chatter of the room. She clenched her staff close to her chest. Sophia had not brought any tomes with her to the party, so the weapon was a reassuring object. She made sure Blossom had heard her, before leading the girl through a door and into the hallway just outside the ball room. The room she had used to help tailor outfits had been placed just across the way, so that after crossing the wide hallway, they had arrived.

Retrieving a key from her pocket, she put the metal object into the door and twisted it. The door clicked softly as it was unlocked, and Sophia pushed the door aside to let Blossom enter before closing it behind her. Propping her staff against a wall for a moment, she scurried over to one of the racks of clothes and pulled from it the red dress Tibarn had spoke of just minutes before. “I-if you could change into this… I’ll fix it up right away to fit you…” As she spoke, her head tilted down slightly while her hands offered the dress to the younger girl.

Calling all cars, calling all cars, you're getting thirsty from this meal. He rushed over to a bowl of punch, picked up the ladle, and poured a glass, finished it off, and poured another, not even acknowledging this Mihira that seemed skittish of him.

After three glasses, he poured himself yet another and held onto it. He was feelin' pretty good, his hunger was satisfied. He turned away from the food bar, and looked at everyone else. It'd been a while since he'd seen anyone, besides the peeps running the show.

And oh, Vaida.

"So the party is for... Yeah, what is it for, anyway? It's... Why didn't I question i-- OH WELL," He argued with himself. "Yeah, I'm just gonna let everyone ride the train, I'll slink off to the side." He crept over to one of the massive pillars and leaned against it, sipping his punch. No one was behind this pillar, though.

We're part of a story, part of a tale...
... Sometimes beautiful, sometimes insane...

♫ ◄NILS► ♫

Nils blinked. Why was he always the one to be protected? It wasn't like he couldn't fight back! He actually could!

... Though his methods weren't the most effective in some situations. Turning into a dragon now would attract too much attention. So would using Fire's Devotion. So he just nodded to Sue, staying behind her and watching quietly.

He was beginning to become irritated with himself for needing protection all the time.

"I'm fine..." The bard said softly with a smile, nearly forcing the words out. "Thank you for your concern..." He closed his eyes for a moment, turning his head to the side.

When his eyes reopened, he found them widening with disbelief. "N-Ninian..." His voice was soft and shaky, as if questioning if she was really standing right in front of him. He noticed the eye bandage and his face paled slightly. What happened in that time she was gone...? What caused the injury that she was hiding behind the bandage? And was that the only injury, or was there more that he couldn't see?

"Ninian..." Nils repeated softly, taking a few steps toward her. He fought back tears as he kept repeating her name over and over. She was here. She was alive. It was so unbelievable... when he didn't see her for a while, he immediately assumed the worst; that death had claimed her once more. He actually went out to where she disappeared that day a few times to try to find some trace of her, but he never saw anything. The bard never saw a single sign of his sister. It was like she disappeared completely... Carefully, he wrapped his arms around his sister. He was hugging something solid. It wasn't his imagination. He wasn't hallucinating.

It was the final realization that Ninian was actually there.

His eyes began to fill with tears. "... Y-you're here... I can't believe it, I... sister..." Nils couldn't bring himself to speak anymore. When he did try, all that came out were soft sobs. Appearance and position be darned, his sister was alive, he could take care of himself later. Right now, he needed to deal with the overwhelming joy and sadness that were flooding his body. "... N-Nini..."

... No one remembers how it began...
