Apparently, the Balancer was more powerful than he'd expected. More power still was poured into the flames. This needed to be ended quickly.

One of Balancer's hands slowly came up and latched onto Spectre's arm again, apparently trying to pull himself free. That lasted only a moment or two, as the arm lost it's strength and slipped away. The screaming also faded.

// Well, if you get a chance, you'll have a good reason to ream Abolisher's rear for taking his shield and leaving him to die. //

(( And if you're going to do anything about the Abolisher, do it now, because he's next on the list; he's more dangerous than the Creator ))
The Spectre saw the pain that the Balancer was suffering, and knew that vengeance was at last being served upon this mortal, who dared to impede his righteous anger. Just a little longer, to ensure that he was dead. To leave him alive after burning him so badly would be an undue torture.

A moment or two later, any movement from the Balancer ceased.

The flames slowly died down. The Spectre paused to make absolutely sure that the Balancer was dead. It would not do to have any interruptions when dealing with the Abolisher, or the Creator.

The Balancer did not move, nor did he breathe. The way his corpse looked, it was probably impossible to do so.
"What are you doing here?" Burr finally asked.
"Balancer told me to leave, so I did. I don't feel the need to panic any of the lessers since I doubt the guy's going to go after any of them. Counsil was the only one that was always gun-ho about the games. You two were the next best people to see." Cantata replied.
"Shouldn't you...I don't know...booking it for another demension or something? You were kind of in the top ranks of the counsil yourself." Burr said.
Cantata shrugged, or at least the shoulders of her armor moved a bit. "Balancer would be the first one he'd have to deal with. And Abolisher...well it's a good bet that I'd be last on the hit list." she replied.
"Where are they at anyway? Still back there?"
"No. I don't sence Abolisher anywhere, but it felt like he left a little while ago. I'd imagine he turned tail and ran. Probably back to Earth. I can't feel Balancer either, which actually has me a bit worried."
"Why would he go back to Earth? We're all here."
Another shrug. "Probably to have a little chat with Xaio. Matter of fact, think I'd better get one last word in with him too. At least get one more look at him. He's probably on the list too."
Sholeh paused and stared at her a moment. "What do you mean? X has never met any of you."
"Oh, yes he has..."
"Bu-no. Alcina's never seen any of you with him. She'd know."
There was a faint smile around the lips of the armor face. "She's not with him all the time."

Once he was convinced of the Balancer's death, he cast the corpse aside like trash, letting it hit the ground as roughly as it could. Then, a great emerald flash filled the room. It soon disappeared, and the Spectre along with it.
[exit the Spectre to unknown]

A minute or two passed, and then, suddenly, someone else appeared. A young woman, by the looks of it. Her hair and gown seemed to be constantly in motion, like they were constructed completely out of glittering, shifting, multicolored smoke; every moment or two she would dissolve completely, only to swirl into being again a few feet away. "Sorry I'm late," she called brightly, "Did I miss the..." Her eyes settled on the Balancer's charred corpse, "Intruder? ... Apparently so. Well darn," she continued to no one in particular, pouting, "I wanted to play." She made an offhanded gesture at the body, and with terrifying suddenness, his body sort of snapped back to being completely normal. Air shot into his lungs, his heart violently jump-started... actually, it looked quite painful.

Balancer's eyes shot open for a second, then clamped shut as his face contorted into a painful grimmace again. Rolling onto his side and hissing something almost incoherrent under his breath. After a second, the pain finally died down, and he opened his eyes again...not really looking at anything but the floor. After something like that, he shouldn't be alive. So what...?

(((BWAHAHAHAHA!!! CBJ, meet the Goddess of Chaos. Chaos, CBJ. Good luck killing her, btw. On the bright side, I can PROMISE that she'll like Joker. A lot.))
The next moment, a finger slipped under his chin, making him look up into a very amused face. "Goodness. Did we have a little more trouble with the new guy than we expected?" This was really too good. Now he OWED her. Big time, too. The thought made her giggle outright. "I think we did. You're welcome, by the way," she added in a conspiratorial whisper.
