I believe everything deserves to live, they deserve to have a chance at life. I do not think us humans have a say in who lives and who dies. We've just convinced ourselves we do.

Do not confuse instinct with intellect, or soul (personality) with spirit.
We CHOOSE. We are not tied to fight-or-flight, or anything else.
We DREAM, we PLAN, we BUILD!
Personally, I believe that the lack of instincts in humans have made us stupid and have lead to all sorts of asinine things, such as making assumptions, which only further proves our stupidity. Animals do things out of instinct, things that we consider wrong, but they don't know it. We do things that we have dubbed wrong, knowing that they are. We are no better than animals. Actually, animals are much better.
You mentioned all the amazing and beautiful things we can do, but I think the most beautiful thing anyone can do, (which I have yet to see any human do) is live. Not just breathe and wake up every morning, but feel free with no attachment to anything. To not have to think so deeply and fear death the way many people do. Animals simply live, they never have to ponder or realize that they are so small and insignificant in such a small world. They don't have to realize one day that their life means nothing, that if they died of old age they would mean nothing to the world. Because they contribute to the eco system, and there for they mean something. The help keep eco systems in balance, and support other life, they don't need their mind to trick them into believing they are important and give them reason to life. They just live. That my friend is beautiful.
