"I really need to clean this place up," He said with a laugh, pretending he hadn't heard, "Pretty soon I'll be getting lost in here to!" The laugh was dry and badly faked though. He really hoped Kaiba wouldn't press the issue. His problems with his father...weren't somthing he wanted to share with anyone.

"Hai, Jou, I understand how you feel, I won't tell a soul." Kaiba said, going back to work.
At the end of a grueling time of sitting and working on the machine Seto finally just about zonked out from exhaustion. It was a lot of work to be up and moving in order to fix it. He looked sleepily around himself and around to try to find Jou.

Joey frowned slightly, biting his lip, but didn't say anything. While Seto worked on the machine he sat down next to the wall and began pawing through one of his books on electronics, hoping to help. But as the hours passed he gradually nodded off against the wall.

He found the other curled up against the wall and moved to just manage to climb up the other's leg and into his lap, where he too, curled up for a little nap of his own.

Joey woke to the front door slamming and a warm spot on his leg. He looked down to see the tiny Seto sleeping there. He grinned slightly. He was so cute all tiny like that! He gave himself a mental slap. He didn't need to be thinking things like that. The door slamming could me one of two things. They were being robbed, or worse, Dad was home. And it was most likely the latter. He scooped up the elder Kaiba gently and deposited him on the bed, trying not to wake him, then tiptoed into the hall. Yep, it was Dad all right. He was drunk again and, by all apearances, royally pissed.
"JOEY WHEELER YOU LAZY SON OF A b***h! GET YOUR SCRANY a** IN HERE!"
Joey took a deep breath and stepped into the living room to meet his fathers fist. He reeled backwards, but remained standing, a testament to his endurance after so many years of the same.
"YOU LIMP DICKED PEICE OF s**t! WHERE THE HELL IS MY DINNER!?!"
"You weren't here so I thought you were eating at the bar."
"YOU STUPID a** HOLE! WHO TOLD YOU TO START THINKING!?! YOU HAVE DINNER WAITING FOR ME EVERY ******** NIGHT! YOU HERE ME!?!"
"It would have been cold by now anyway."
"THEN YOU MAKE ME A GOD DAMNED NEW ONE, YOU ******** RETARD!"
The huge man gave him another back hand to the face. This time Joey hit the ground, hard. He keapt his eyes low and muttered through the blood in his mouth, "I'm sorry. I'll make you dinner now, ok?"
"AND WHO THE HELL SAYS I WANT YOUR SHITTY a** COOKING?! YOU GET YOUR a** BACK IN YOUR BEDROOM AND DON'T LET ME SEE YOUR UGLY MUG UNTIL DINNER TOMORROW!"
Joey didn't bother with nodding. He clung to the wall and half ran half dragged himself back to his room where he locked the door behind him. When he heard the reasuring click in the lock he turned around, sliding slowly to the ground, back against the door. His lip bled freely out of the corner of his mouth.

"You've got to get out of here, Jou- kun." Seto mumbled, having been woken by the other's father. "You have really got to escape from here, it's not a good situation."
Seto's face was knitted into one of worry and carefully he stood and managed to somehow walk over to the other. "Are you cut badly?" Seto questioned.

Joey glanced over at him, standing there all pride and arrogance. 'It didn't matter.' It did matter. Nothing could matter more. His whole life had been like this, and this...this...technological screw up wanted to tell him it didn't matter if he was...was...he couldn't even think the word. Joey was surprised to find tears running down his face. He scrubbed them away quickly, hoping Kaiba had missed them, then got up and began hunting for another one of his books.
"We better get back to work. I want to get you back to normal as soon as possible, so you can get out of my house."
