Rae steps gingerly out into the forest, knowing that even though she stands near the wall, danger could present itself at any time. Taking note of that she pulls out her flute and, leaning against a nearby tree, begins to practice the notes. Making up little melodies as she does so. She looks around, and sees no one.
"Good," Rae says, "I'm alone.... Or maybe that's bad. There's only one way to find out."
Rae heads deeper into the forest, trying to watch out for danger as she plays a song on the flute softly.

Death's clone had been wandering aimlessly in the forest since he had nothing to do. He was planning on waiting until the real Death got back to know that everything was OK. He was walking along when he heard an interesting tune come from a little distance away. Pushing quietly through some brush, Death approached the sound.

There was a girl playing music in the forest, a strange sight. Wait a minute, Death thought to himself, I know that girl! She was that genin from before. I know, I'll sneak up on her.... So, Death quietly got behind her so that she was walking away from him. Then, he followed.

Stepping out of hiding, Death walked along behind Rae. He was stepping at the exact same time as she was so that she wouldn't notice the sound. He even began taking longer steps so that he could get closer. Death wanted to see how close he could get to Rae before she noticed. If he got within arm's reach he planned on pushing her and screaming.

Rae plays her tune, but changes it slightly- mimicking a bird. She stops and looks up, ahead, then all around her.
"No birds?" She asks herself, "But why wouldn't there be any? At this time of day their most active....."
Rae looks around in front of herself, feeling a chill begin in her spine. She begins to walk again, her tune changing ever more slightly eventually becoming a twisted and fast paced song. Rae turns suddenly, and glares.

Death froze as Rae glared at him. He was just about to push her when she turned around. His face was a mixture of surprise and embarrassment. It actually looked pretty funny.

"Oh... hi?" Death was unsure of what to say at this awkward moment He looked around before saying, "You come here often?"

"You scared away the birds," Rae states simply before her face softens, "This is my first time in the forest, its amazing."
Rae looks up at one of the trees and points to it, "Each tree in this forest has a past, just as we do, and like our pasts theirs cannot be erased. I'm sorry if that makes no sense."

"Umm...." Death wasn't following what Rae was talking about. Something about trees and the past? He wasn't sure. "OK then... well, what were you going to do before I crept up on you?" Death decided he might as well join her in whatever she was going to do, he wasting doing anything anyway.

Rae looks down at her flute, then back at Death.
"I wasn't doing anything in particular.... yet.... I need to practice some basics." She says as she looks down at her flute, "I need to learn how to better control while using an instrument's notes for hand signs. Other then that I was just planning on walking around, and maybe, practicing a bit of basic tai."

"You're making hand signs while you play music?" This was new to Death. He had never heard of such a concept before. "How do you do that? It must be difficult. In the end I bet your foes don't expect it." He watched Rae play her instrument, something he had never learned to do.

There was one thing Rae said that Death understood. "Did you say Tai?" he asked rhetorically. Death was excellent at hand-to-hand combat, perhaps he could help. "Do you want to have a practice fist fight? I'll go easy on you."

Stopping Kiyoshi had thought he heard music but if it was there it had stopped. Frowning he leaned his back against a tree, his yellow eyes shifting around ...theres absolutly nothing to do in this forrest... with a yawn he pushed off of the tree and began to walk back towards the town gate.

Rae looks down at her instrument, then places it in a small bag.
"Sure," She says, picking up her hands and taking a defensive pose, "I can practice everything else later back in the village, besides I really need to work on my form."
Rae smiles, trying to look at every possibility for when the battle begins. He had the upper hand in several ways: he weighted more, knew more, had a higher concentration of muscle tissue, was older, and, more experienced. What did she have going for her? She was smaller, smaller frame meant she could go places he couldn't fit. But it also meant she had a shorter reach, she'd have to get extremely close to hit him and cause anything at all. Then again, she might have a better advantage because of her size, if she could find a blind spot. She knew where her's was, and was prepared to be attacked from that area. She balled her hands into fists.

((Sorry if I got carried away, I'm enthusiastic about some things and can't control myself.))

Rae was right, she had to work on her form. Death had been practicing karate for nearly his whole life and he had learned many tricks along his way. A lot of things people thought they were doing right were actually wrong in the end. Death had noticed one right away, something so common that only conditioned fighters knew the trick.

"I bet you're glad you know to take a fighter stance with your hands at the ready to block any attacks. Good thing I don't need to teach you that." No matter how well a fighter you became, it was always a good idea to keep at least one possible way to block, two hands worked great. "It's just too bad you're doing it all wrong." Sometimes, Death can be... well, blunt. But that didn't mean he wasn't thinking.

The fundamental mistake that Rae had made was with the most basic part... the fist. "You see, almost pretty much everybody will go into a fight with their hands high, fist's tight, and muscles bulging. This, is completely wrong!" What? How can this be? He must be mistaken! Don't worry, he's right.

Only now did Death take a fighter stance of his own. He slid his right foot back so it made a straight line with Death's other foot and Rae. His toes were pointing perpendicular to his stance and his chest was facing the same direction. This was another important lesson Death was considering teaching Rae, footing and angle. However, Death wanted to start more basic and work the fist.

Death's own hands had not formed fists at all when he stepped back. Each one was completely relaxed and loose. His left was straight out from his hip towards Rae, and his right hung directly in front of his chest. "Now, I know my fists... aren't, but that's the point!" Death grimaced, realizing he wasn't being clear.

Death attempted to clarify. "You see, the only time you should make a fist is when you actually make contact. The rest of the time, just stay loose." Death made a tight fist, a little more tense than Rae's. "See, this looks strong and sturdy, but it has zero speed. When you tense your muscles, you move slower." To give an example, Death gave a quick jab which snapped just in front of Rae's face. (The snap is another lesson, too.)

"Now, you may have thought that that was a pretty good punch, and it was. However, no one would see this coming!" With his back hand, which had remained loose, Death brought a cross punch flying to the same spot, it snapped, and it flew back to it's spot, relaxed again. This punch was almost twice a fast and required far less strength.

"If you happened to catch a glimpse at that last punch you would have seen that I only made a fist when it was at it's target, right in front of your face. This ensures a higher speed and a better snap, but that's a different lesson. And don't forget, this goes for blocks, too. You can give quite the dead arm with a fast blow."

With a grin, Death had hoped Rae understood what he had just tried to teach her. To check he asked, "You got that? Any questions? If not, you can try against me, and don't be afraid to hit." Death stepped up, changing his stance by 90 degrees so his torso was pointing directly at Rae, ready for a blow.

Rae loosens her stance a little, relaxing her hands.
"Yes there was one part I didn't understand.... How and where am I supposed to stand? And where do my hands go?" Rae asked, confusion clear in her eyes and posture.
If he stood like that, where should she try to hit? What style was she using again? She couldn't remember. The style of fighting meant everything, just as there is a difference between night and day, there is a difference between fighting style. He was using karate, she was sure of that. And he was trying to help her, she knew that as well, but why was it so darn confounding? The way she held her stance currently, she knew, was a detriment to the effectiveness of any attacks she threw, or any defensive postures she tried.

"Posture and placement, huh?" This was a good question, especially posture. A lot of it was best discovered by practice and practical training, but a lot of the tips could be told. "First, let's discuss posture."

"You are the one who decides what to present as a target to your enemy. If you offer your face, that's what will be hit; if you offer a shield, you will block subconsciously." To add an image to the words, Death referenced his position. He had turned to face Rae so his whole front was open. "Now, if you look, there are countless targets that could hurt me very much." Then, Death turned to his previous stance with his right foot back again. "In this position, however, only my head, arm, leg, and side are open. And you block with the arm and leg so the only things you need to block are the face and side."

"So, if you put your shield up front you will be better protected. And this can be used beyond just fist fights." Hopefully that was enough and made sense. "As for where your hands should be... keep them out." Death held his hands outward from his body to show what he meant. "Now, from here I can block all sorts of attacks without them coming close. If my hands were too close," Death pulled his hands in to show what he was saying, "then the attacks would have hit me by the time I have a chance to block."

It wasn't necessary, but Death wanted to add a little extra tip. "Now, this is a little more advanced, but it might help you." Death started to move his hands around is circles, swerves, and all over. They weren't moving very fast but covered the whole area in front of him. "By keeping your defense in motion this helps relax your muscles and prepares you for any attack that might be thrown at you. 'A body in motion stays in motion,' so don't fight yourself by trying to move something that's still."

Yawning Kiyoshi stretches and puts his hands in his pockets ...might as well do something... walking through the wilderness to the training grounds he thinks to himself.
