Mikoto let out a sigh of relief as she returned the iron to it's storage space and retrieved the cooling ointment from the space next to it.
Going back to Kokuro, she half glanced at Shino.
"Shino... there's a time and a place for humor," she stated firmly. "Shin, hold him still. He may try to escape because he was just hurt by my hands."
As her fukutaichou held onto the demon, Mikoto slipped on a latex glove and squeezed a fairly large amount of the clear cream on her hand and smoothed it over the mark she'd just branded him with.

Hai, Mikoto Taichou." the young man tried to adopt a serious look, but failed miserably. he instead looked kind of ill. he turned to a large chalkboard, which had incomplete mathematics scrawled on. Shino Picked up a peice of chalk, quickly filling the room with the sound of clacking chalk.

Shin did as he was told and held onto Kokuro while Mikoto applied the ointment. "Taichou, where are we going to keep him?" Shin partially was hoping that she didn't know. He was thinking about offering to keep the demon with him.

Kokuro let out a low, quiet growl as Mikoto spread the ointment, flinching with each pass over the branded area before he pulled back from her hand. His gaze left the floor long enough to look at Shin quickly, then returned to the floor.

"Gomen ne, Kokuro-kun," Mikoto apologized when she saw him flinch. "It had to be done."
After she finished applying the ointment to his skin, she pressed a sterilized bandage over it to help with the healing.
"Is that better? Yes or no." she asked as she nodded and smile for yes and frowned and shook her head for no.

Shin let go of Kokuro and took a step back allowing the demon to move about once again. "Now that's done, you can relax." He said to the demon, than he looked towards Mikoto. "Do you think he is hungry?"

Kokuro slowly looked up at her, not making any direct eye contact or any other movements, not understanding the question directed at him. The burning pain on his neck was starting to cool down much to his surprise. He made a soft noise before locking eyes with Mikoto. "...Sss.. Aa.. Fe?" It was Kokuro's attempt to ask her what the word 'safe' meant after Shin had said it previously, and only once, showing he was starting to catch on to four-lettered words now.

"I'm pretty sure he would be, but he probably doesn't know yet," Mikoto replied to Shin. "We'll definitely have to get him something that wasn't created in this lab. There's no telling what it may do to him."
The redhead turned her head when she heard Kokuro's voice.
"I'll tell you when you can understand me better," she told him, patting his head and smiling.
Turning to her fukutaichou, she continued.
"Kokuro will stay in the barracks with you and I. But it may be better if he shared a room with you."

"Really? I think so too!" Shin replied excitedly, but than looked away. "I mean, yeah, that would probably be best. " He looked back up towards Mikoto, happily smiling. "I wonder what kinds of food he would like. I don't know what demons eat, sooo.... it will probably be a guessing game until he finds something he likes." Shin pulled out a random chocolate bar from his pocket and held it out towards Kokuro. "Though, I do know that he likes chocolate. Maybe he'll like pocky too."

Kokuro reached out for the chocolate bar that Shin was holding out and took it, trying to open the wrapper and nearly dropping it a couple times. After several moments of fighting with it, Kokuro was able to peel the wrapper back and took a bite of the chocolate. He took a few steps around Shin, small at first, then went around Mikoto as well.

(( Skipping ahead now~ ))
~ * ~ One Week Later ~ * ~
It'd been one week since Mikoto and Shin had released Kokuro from his incubation chamber. In just this short amount of time, he's experienced all senses and most emotions. He easily recognizes anyone in Juunibantai and just a few that aren't in the squad.
His thinking abilities have developed greatly and he is able to speak well as well as understand complex sentences. The mark on his neck has healed completely due to an ointment developed by the Juunibantai taichou and he's been residing with Shin in the Taichou/Fukutaichou quarters.
Mikoto stood at the table, goggles over her eyes and she scribbled in the journal she'd started to catalog Kokuro's progress over time. As she finished the last line of the entry, she glanced around.
"Kokuro-kun," she called to the demon. "Where are you?"

Kokuro was near the other side of the lab, having been looking around curiously at the odds and ends that were out. "Over here, Mikoto-sama." He poked his head out into view for her. "Do you need something?"

"Can you bring me the calcium chlorate and the mercury?" she replied. "Make sure you're careful, those chemicals are dangerous."
She smiled slightly as she saw Kokuro. He'd grown so much within just a week! His learning capability was impressive. Catching on quick, large memory, his eagerness to learn. It was refreshing.
"Make sure you have your goggles on. I want to protect those glowing eyes of yours."
The redhead scientist chuckled softly as she moved to the table in front of her.

Kokuro scratched his head slightly at her mentioning the goggles, as they were hanging around his neck instead. "Yeah, I'll get them for you." He slid his goggles up to cover his eyes before gathering the two chemicals, handling them carefully as he made his way to Mikoto and stood beside her. "Here they are. What's that?" He motioned slightly to the journal she had been writing in.

"Progression journal," Mikoto told him as she took the chemicals and set them aside. "I'm keeping track of your development. What you do and what you've learned so far. I must say you've done extremely well for just one week."
Tying up her hair and sliding the goggles over her eyes, she began to poke at the tubes of the chemicals.
