"And I well plan to, but public indecency is so much fun," Faolan chuckled, but gave up on trying to get a second lay out of her. He kissed the hand of hers he was holding and began walking with her to Keagan's vardo again. "What sort of things did you wanna ask him?"

"About my mother, this arranged marriage thing..." She paused and looked at Faolan sadly. "How things were supposed to have gone."

Faolan just made a soft noise, nodding, some of the humor leaving his expression. "I think I have a few questions on that my own self."

Ellandra nodded softly, saying nothing until they drew close to Keagan's vardo. "I . . . how are we supposed to ask him about this?" She asked, finally, looking up at her husband with wide eyes.

"I think maybe something like . . ." Faolan stepped up to the door and opened it. "Da, I think we need to ta--oh, sorry there, lass." He stepped aside as a girl ran out, hastily putting her clothes back on, then moved back into the doorway before being bodily flung out. He landed on the ground hard, breath going out of him.
Keagan came down the steps only in his trousers, looking rather perturbed. "This had better be good." He looked up at Ellandra and his expression softened a bit. "Howway tha', dochter. Still wed to this a**, are you?"

Ellandra bit her lip, a blush rising to her features as she knelt and helped Faolan up. "U-um. yes, Keagan, I'm sorry we, um, interrupted you," she stammered weakly. "We - we had some questions, Keagan - " she started to say, but cut herself off, not sure how to approach the subject.

Keagan stood there, arms folded over his large chest, and waited for someone to explain why he'd been interrupted from his afternoon of dallying with his newest romantic interest.
Faolan coughed a bit as he caught his breath, nodding his thanks to his wife. "Da," he rasped out. "Be it true tha' w' were t'be betrothed as bairns?"
The old man's eyes widened, for once actually being caught off guard by something that came out of his adopted son's mouth. "Who told you this?"

Ellandra wrinkled her nose. "We visited my........ aunt, on my father's side, today," she said, the words feeling like they left a foul taste in her mouth. "She mentioned something about it."

"Really now?" Keagan gave a small nod. "It be true enough. Your dam came to me and said something along the lines of her daughter--that's you, lass--havin' met my halfbreed boy--that be this stupid pikey over here--and that she felt you two wouldn't be able to be apart. Grandmother had mentioned the same thing before your mother arrived. I told her we could wed you two as children, but she settled for a betrothal and wanted you to visit often to see your young beau. It didn't work out." He gave them a wry grin. "Well, maybe it did."

Ellandra closed her eyes and bit her lip. "That. . . that must have been why he killed her, then," she whispered, hugging Faolan and burying her face against him. "Because he found out about Mama's plans. . ."

"It's possible," Keagan said, nodding. "Weren't much we could do, really, t' help, though. I tried to tell him he couldn't break th' betrothal, but he wouldnae listen. Just short of exacting didikai justice on him, our hands were tied. Joost wish your dam had gone ahead an' let us handfast you two as weans."
Faolan stroked his wife's hair, not sure what else he could possibly say. Well, one thing came to mind. "Da? Grandmother knew about all this, right? Did she do somethin' to me as a boy 'cause I don't remember none of this."
Keagan nodded again. "Aye, lad. She did a spell to make you forget your bonny lass that day you two first met. It would've been cruel to let you pine for the girl, she said, when you couldnae hae her yet. I thought she only meant it to be till you got to be with the girl after your betrothal, but maybe the old woman knew more than she let on, lookin' back."

Ellandra sighed softly and wiped at her eyes a bit. "W-well, it doesn't matter now, anyway - it's rather far in the past to start letting it bother me now.," she said quietly, and smiled at Keagan a little.

"Don't make it hurt any less, lass," Keagan said, eyes looking rather soft for once.
Faolan raised an eyebrow at the expression on his father's face, clearly not having seen a look like that before on the man. He looked down at Elle and then at Keagan. "Well, I'm bothered. It ain't any kind of fair that you both get to remember this great and wonderful day when Elle and I met and I have no memory of it at all." He actually pouted about it.

Ellandra looked at Faolan, and then looked to Keagan sadness shining in her eyes. "Is theere any way to help Faolan remember, Keagan? It's hazy for me, but that's more because of how young I was, I think . . . and because of the block I think I had on my memories. . ."

"I dunno, lass. What Grandmother did to him ain't much different than what your father did to you. I'll ask around, though, and see if someone knows a spell to help," Keagan said, then put a hand on each one's shoulder. "Now, be off with you. I need to go . . . spend some alone time now." He walked back up the steps of the vardo, entered, and slammed the door shut.
Faolan looked crestfallen. "Come on, Elle, let's go home."
