The people had all survived, by the looks of it. No grieving friends, no lost limbs, nothing too depressing. As icing on the cake, everyone seemed to be gathering on this one hilltop: scholars, hunters, parents and children... nobody was safe from the conflict, it seemed.

Wave after wave of healing light came from Victoria's staves, blanketing each new arrival in feelings of good health. That is, until she fell to her knees. Arashe, startled, just as quickly fell to his own, putting a hand on her shoulder. Rummaging in his pocket, he pulled out a few small snacks, things that had stayed both in his pocket and unharmed through the day's events.

"Here, take these. You need to keep your strength up." He placed the small satchel of food in her hands, closing her fingers around it. Knowing her, she'd probably wolf them down, an effort to boost her fleeting strength.

Alihi hadn't moved from where she was seated on the ground, not willing to let go of her child even for a moment. She wanted to join Sue and the others and get food, yes, but she wasn't about to leave Amara behind. A hand gently stroked the sleeping child's hair as she looked at all the faces, mostly familiar but only a few that were not.

The tactician wanted to rest. She really, really did. At the same time, she felt that she should stay awake. Who knows when someone might need a tactician? And, well, they depended on her. So she let out a small sigh, shifting the child in her lap slightly so she wouldn't slip or anything. She would stay awake until she felt that it was alright to fall asleep.

... Words? Alihi turned her head towards the sound of the voice. Canas? She decided to listen quietly, waiting until he finished reading whatever he was reading (a letter?) before saying anything.

By the end of Canas' read-aloud, there were tears in the corners of her eyes and there were no words that she could even think of. An arm raised to her face and she wiped away the droplets of water that threatened to roll down her face. She unfortunately knew how hard it was to lose a loved one. She knew that it was hard to get over, with time and support from those you hold dear being the only cures. Plus, she could tell that he was already beginning to push the sorrow away, wearing a smile to make sure that no one would notice that he was hurting. It was hard to hide emotion, though.

Alihi gave a small, friendly smile and wave to her friend, Canas. I'm here if you need me.

Shinon seeing that some reason Jin was not responding to his pokes went ahead and tried to hunt for some food. He looked around......... and saw nothing....... Shinon went back to camp and saw a few people talking and most of them resting.
So bored.... I want to stick my arrows in some enemies...... ugh......
The quietness of the land was a little disturbing. Why were there no birds? Why aren't there any beasts around? The bugs aren't active. Something is definitely wrong.

Still recovering from his injuries and worn out from the fighting, Roy had fallen fast asleep. Ninian smiled gently at him. He looked so peaceful when he was sleeping. She hoped he'd sleep for a while longer yet to regain his strength. She had a feeling he was going to need it.

Assured that he was safe, Ninian let her gaze wander. Sue, Nils, FD, and a Wyvern Rider--Valter was it?--were gone, off to forage for food. Others were resting, worn out from the battle and their hasty retreat.

Her gaze fell on Canas, the druid reading something to himself--a letter? She couldn't quite hear him, but it sounded like it was from his wife. Listening carefully, Ninian's heart sank.

"I am dying, Canas."

Unconsciously she squeezed Roy's hand a little tighter. She let go, rising and walking over to the druid. He, too, was worn from the battle, and this letter was not helping his emotional state. Even though she was a dancer, Ninian knew how much effort the elder magic took out of a person; she had known Canas when they traveled together in Elibe. Even though he was the only dark magic user--though he'd lecture you about how it was elder magic, called dark by prejudice alone--he got along well with the other magic users, especially his niece, Nino.

But back during the fighting . . . wasn't the tome he'd used . . . Ereshkigal? Wasn't that the tome Nergal had used, back when they'd fought him? She was still dead then, just a spirit, watching the fighting from above. The spell had nearly sucked her in, trying to use her spirit as a part of the power that would explode outwards and harm her companions, her friends, and. . . .

Breaking away from that train of thought, another question presented itself: how had Canas gotten his hands on that tome? She could have sworn they'd buried it with Nergal when they'd buried the druid just outside of the Dragon's Gate. And what, if anything, did it mean

She quietly approached the druid, hesitant. "Um . . . Canas?" she began. "Are . . . are you alright?"

Canas looked over, a bit suprised. "Oh! Lady Ninian," He said, with that same forced smile. "Everything is all right. Its fine." He attempted a chuckle, and it was decent enough for him. "I just get a bit lonely sometimes. Being a scholar is a lonely business." He looked down at roy and lifted his staff, using it to fine tune any healing that had been set upon him before.

"What makes you ask Milady?" He Set to work mending others to health but turned his head so that he would be bettrer able to hear Ninian's voice. It was unchanged since then. As soft and kind as ever. He needed to hear a voice like that right now, for fear of breaking down.

Victoria took Tristai's waterskin, drinking it down greedily. Shortly after, she leaned against a tree, comfortable for now. "Ah... thank you. That must have been what I needed, yes... thank you so much for being here, both of you. I never had to do so much healing in my life..."

It was forced. That smile couldn't possibly be real. It hurt her to see a man she respected hurting so. He may try to shrug it off, but even though they were not close she could tell all was not well with the druid.

She watched as he passed his staff over Roy, healing anything not already done. He wandered from person to person, healing as needed, Ninian trailing along behind.

"What makes you ask Milady?" he asked, head turned to see the person he was healing and still be able to hear her.

"Please, call me Ninian," she said, insisting but without force. "I . . . I just--I saw you, reading that letter and . . . you seemed . . . unhappy." Yes, she was being evasive and avoiding the reason she'd gotten up to come talk to the druid, but her words were sincere nonetheless.

Canas chuckled sadly. "No matter what, Ninian, Nothing can change the past. The best Magic cannot fix what is wrong. It cannot reverse death. Nergal for instance, Tryed to be a god, By creating life, from life. But someone had to Die to give that life. It is a perverse sense, of false greatness if we think such."

He healed what he could and returned, sitting across from Ninian. "Has it really been that long since those dark times? I suppose so. I have began to compile a book about the whole thing. People must know. Whether they choose to believe is irrelavant."

Just a minute...

Leon's mind came full stop at the image of himself frozen from within, and he knew it wasn't right. He knew that he wasn't abandoned. If he was truly alone, truly left behind, he wouldn't have been picked up by Dan that day. He wouldn't have even lived! Still, that didn't change the fact he left for a group of 'rogues'. No... wait..

They weren't rogues. These were people... Eyris citizens. All the same... clan or not. What was his oath that he swore as a watchman? What was it? It was hard to remember now, it seemed so far away. Yet, the truth was starting to become clear. Leon's eyes, seven years ago only opened again inside the Watch House. There WAS a giant there talking another language... and it took him twice to understand it wasn't another language at all, but much like his own, and very broken from lack of proper schooling. That voice though was the first warmth he ever felt... the first difference between the snow and the soldiers. This strange person... the one who's name he forgot... was a real human being, trying to be understood in that weird accent.

Sue went onto hunt, being ever quiet not to arouse the animal's instincts that she was hunting. A good prized buck or two ought to feed the whole group for three days, especially if she preserved it like she remembered to do. It had been a while since she'd lived the 'frontier' lifestyle, but Sue certainly hadn't forgot it. It was like riding a horse. Once you did it, it became instinct, one never truly forgot how... and it resurfaced when someone needed it most. That time was now.

Sue brought a short bow for hunting, as they were the quietest and easiest to aim with. She spotted a good-sized buck in the distance... nice target. Now begun the game of patience that came with waiting for just the right moment.

The figures slowly crept by and once the area was cleared, Ephraim took to the ground once more and moved further up the hill. He spotted a glimmer of light while was on the tree and wondered if it was the others...he just hoped he wasn't going to get attacked considering he looked liek a raggamuffin right about now. Never the less, he slowly approached the 'camp' once he spotted some people, still hiding in the shadows.

Roy felt a wave of warmth run through his body as his wounds were being treated. He had fallen asleep shortly after his wounds were treated.

He began dreaming.

It was late. The sun had just set and a young red-haired child, barely four years of age, and an older man with the same colored hair were returning home on horseback, accompanied by a graying paladin. The sky was beginning to darken even more as storm clouds began drawing nearer. The trio had soon made it home safely, and were greeted by a woman, probably the boy's mother. They shared a warm greeting before going to dinner. The last meal with the woman.

Time had soon passed, and the child had become a fine teenager. He was looking up at the sky, dark clouds approaching. Tents were set up and his comrades were chatting cheerfully. The final battle was approaching with the dark dragon.

Time passed once more. The young lord was on his own now, exploring unknown territory to grow stronger. The thing with Mika and Granny N had just finished a few days ago. There were plenty of trees around, and it was foggy. Storm clouds were approaching quickly, and he sought shelter. Finding an empty cave, he set up camp. The air felt...different. It was...heavy. Cold. It felt as a thousand pairs of eyes were watching him. Hungry eyes. Malicious stares. It took him a while to fall asleep, and by the time he did, the embers from the fire were low. A low growl shook the cave, causing the young man to wake up. He reached out for his swords as he got to his feet. There was a light deeper into the cave before a blast of fire shot out. The young lord ducked to avoid the flames, and as he got back up onto his feet, something large lunged out at him.

"Gah!"

Roy woke up with a jolt. He sat up quickly, hand going up to his chest. His breaths were short and rapid, his face pale.

Right...he was attacked by a lone dragon in that cave. Before, he didn't understand why. But now, thanks to that repeat nightmare, he knew. The small traces of dragon blood that flowed through his veins threatened the dragon. It didn't matter if he was full dragon, or one percent dragon. Dragon blood was dragon blood. If it wasn't for that girl that found him, he probably wouldn't be here today. The name of that woman escaped him, unfortunately.

He looked around now that he had calmed down. His mother and Canas were talking. There were others around, but with the young lord still feeling sleepy, his vision was blurred and he couldn't make out any faces.

"...."

Shinon nocked his bow and was shooting many different parts of a tree. He was bored there was nothing to do. Shinon let out a big sigh and went to retrieve his arrows. He then saw a boy with red hair sitting up looking a bit sleepy. Shinon walked up to him and asked, " Hey boy, what are you doing?" He sat down next to the boy and asked again, "What's your name?"

What? That wasn't right, Bramimond had resurrected her--but she alone could use her draconic powers to stop the three fire dragons that had come through the gate. She had been needed. Before, when she'd first died, a certain person had asked if there was a way for someone to be brought back. Lord Athos had grudgingly said yes, but . . . it was not something that he had known how to do; only Bramimond did. But the Archdruid would never have resurrected anyone unless there was a really good reason that they needed to be alive. In her case, had she not been brought back, everyone would most likely have died that day, Canas included . . . Eliwood, too.

She remained quiet, thinking while Canas finished healing everyone. He sat on the groud across from where she was standing, next to her son. Gingerly, she sat as well, tucking her legs underneath her, careful not to rip her dress and placing it so that she could stand quickly and not tear it or trip over it should the need arise.

"Has it really been that long since those dark times? I suppose so. I have began to compile a book about the whole thing. People must know. Whether they choose to believe is irrelavant."

"A book?" she asked. That sounded like something the scholar would do. She thought about it for a moment. "Even if people think that it's just a story, like the tales of Dragons in Elibe, it did happen. We were there. We saw those children of flame."

And I killed two of them. . . .

"You're right; people should know, even if they choose not to believe it's true."

Her eyes fell on Roy. He had grown up so much in the years since she'd last seen him. He wasn't a boy anymore.

"It has been a long time since everyone faced Nergal," she said softly. "Many years have passed since then. It's hard to believe, but it's true. Just as the existence of Dragons in Elibe is true." She looked down at her fingers. "Everyone worked so hard and fought for so long to defeat Nergal . . . and they succeeded. You succeed," she added, glancing back up at Canas. "I saw. I was there, watching. I could not do anything to help, but I saw. I saw what you and everyone else accomplished that day. You saved Elibe." She smiled. "You saved Elibe from that man and his ambitions for power."

She stopped abruptly. Their conversation was getting dangerously close to the subject she most wanted to ask him about, but the last thing she wanted to discuss right now. "I-I'm sorry, I--"

A gasp from nearby cut her off. Turning her head, she saw Roy, sitting up and gasping for breathe, pale.

"Roy?" she said quickly. "You're awake! Are you alright?"

It was so terrible, the cold, the snow, the wind; they all pressed against Kris as he trod on, making his way towards the group of FEFers. The energy killing weather pounded against the weak manakete, who had lost his only companion in life to the blizzard. It was a horrible battle of will versus nature—No, none of these things were actually happening. In actuality Kris was just thinking up these random wild thoughts as he made his merry way up the mountain to join the FEFers. It was actually summer, so rather than cold and snow; it was quite hot and muggy making the skipping Kris was doing somewhat tiring. It was because the manakete wore heavy dark clothes to conceal his gender and to make it easy to sneak around... or away with ease.

If it wasn’t one thing it was another! Kris was almost horror stricken as he finally stumbled in on the group of guild members, quite literally. Ok, he really wasn’t, you could call him shocked, but that was just Kris being normal over dramatic Kris. I am shocked to discover that I… DON’T KNOW THESE PEOPLE! Go figure though, Kris had only ever met a few of the guild members and that was when he was pretending to be someone else. Hopefully they would welcome the overly feminine man with open arms and not bite his head off, if he was lucky. That and not figure out his gender if they knew what was best for them.

What was Leon's vow as a watchman? What was it? How was it that his mind had come to forget something so very important to him? How?

What is it?

I remember....

"I, Leon of Eyris and Learania take this Oath... that no matter how strong the opposition... no matter how harsh the circumstances... no matter how long I must lift my weapon and fight... no matter how great the evil and corruption are surrounding me... that I will take this axe and all weapons hereafter and use them in the defense of Eyris and her beloved citizenry whom are unable to take up arms themselves. In face of all danger, all risks... I shall protect those who need it... and deliver punishment to those whom deserve it."

And with that oath, the nightmare was over. The alter reality shattered, and Leon was brought back into the present. FEF were a clan, but still citizens of Eyris. Now more than ever, they needed his protection. Besides that... he finally did realize that his savior meant everything he did and said. There was no betrayal, otherwise, the Zweihander would have swung in their direction. There was still hope. There always was...

"As the lone watchman 'ere, I'll be protectin' these citiz'ns 'o Eyris. 'Tis be m'duty 'til the day I die!" He thought. He stood up, and how he wished to speak those words aloud and raise the morale of everyone here. Maybe since he pulled out of the slump... everyone else could and they'd move on from this hardship they lived.
