Ok, see? This was the problem with suddenly barging in on other people’s conversations. Mal just heard something about S’van biting people and couldn’t help himself. “Oh dear. You don’t, S’van? That’s a pity. I’ll just have to find someone else.”

Oh hey. Everyone was turning around. Mal turned around too, curious as ever to see what was so darned interesting. Oh… another fainted person. They were just dropping like flies, weren’t they? He recognized the two angry Greenriders, the Weyrlingmaster and his weyrmate (or at least the man who might as well be his weyrmate), but he didn’t think too much of it. Drinking happened. Hopefully it wasn’t some dreadful sickness going about. Although, all those people falling down during the Hatching… Oh hey! Cute firelizards! Look, it was a perfect distractions. “…Should her legs be able to do that?” Mal asked eventually, pointing down at the pathetic little Kia.

Surprisingly enough, Ailurnath’s croons were soothing enough for Aeron. Or maybe it was the fact that she was so clearly sorry and, more importantly, had so clearly understood that some wrong had been done against the flits. Aeron slowly calmed down, eyes going from an angry red to a more relaxed green. When Kia started to squall, he moved to help her, trying to untangle the little ‘lizard. After all, he had practice at this.

“…yeah, I’ll see if I can get him out of there. Come on, Aer. Look, I’ve got a treat for you!” Actually, Mal had an empty hand for Aeron, but the Bronze had yet to pick up on this trick. He hissed in a half-hearted manner at the human, but slowly approached him out of curiosity and love of food. “Right. Try to untangle her while he’s distracted.”

Woo! She was off the ground again! Clearly boys seemed to like picking her up, though Nandeli would be the last person to complain. Hugs were always better than no hugs, especially when they were hugs given to her by her adorable friends. Okay, well, O'asis probably wouldn't like being called adorable, but what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him.

"Sometimes the spur of the moment plans are the best ones!" She couldn't very well say that him Impressing a green had been a surprise to her, but just because she expected it didn't make it any less awesome. "And I like it! K'riwar... yes, I definitely like it! You're a proper dragonrider now!" Ha! His brother would be so miffed. Here K'riwar was, surrounded by all kinds of excellent people, and Bevan didn't get to come and join the cool party. That's what he got for being such a grump.

Somebody else didn't seem to be as pleased as they should be, the Nose noted with a cheeky grin, and that had to be rectified. "Eeeeeeeasy's grumpy~" Nandeli teased, clearly making a small mockery of his name. "You don't find the riders here to your liking?" Oh yes, she was breaking out the gay jokes already. Nobody was safe. E'si was saved from further torment when attention was drawn to the fallen Weyrlingmaster. Nandeli stood on tip toe and then hopped up and down to see over the crowd, glad for the snippets of conversation. Apparently F'sey was down. Huh. Hopefully he would be okay come lesson time. She wanted to give him his hug!

Her attention went back to Dorin at his questions, quietly amused by his confusion. "You've never met a randy greenrider? More's the pity. The trick is, if some rider gets you a drink and then tries to coax you back to his weyr to rest up, you just say no. Understand? Just say no. Anyways, you seem to know lots of people here! Like S'van the molestee and O'asis, and there's E'si and K'riwar and Jiri and Jessmet and everybody! It would be no fun it I told you all their names you know."

Ren stayed perfectly still when the little forepaws touched her nose, though her eyes were whirling like mad. Idly she wondered if she could communicate with this mini dragon, who was so very interested in her. It didn't seem to speak at all, however it also seemed to be quite intelligent. Perhaps she should try? Aeron distracted her from her ideas with his posturing, and she tilted her nose just slightly to get a better look at him. Why was the little bronze so angry? She was not hurting the little green.

Ailurnath seemed to know how to calm the little creature, and it was a good thing too. The little green was tumbling all over herself! The gold made an anxious noise as she watched, hoping that Kia was not damaged at all. They are so small! Reneneth said to Ailurnath, still keeping a close eye on Kia. Do they get any bigger?

Notos, overhearing the words that J'riar was saying to Jessan leaned back a little. "I agree. We'll all be rooting for you." His hand extended to ruffle Jessan's hair, hoping to cheer the male up. They all understood the disappointment of not impressing, but to have most of your friends impress all at once.. even Notos had to wince at that. They would stay friends though, of course! Making a note to hang out with Jessan more often since he would alone until a new roommate came along.. Notos placed another reassuring hand on his shoulder.

He moved back to the conversation with E'si though, as not to ignore the other male. That wouldn't do, after all.

Asceth turned around, to see that a green had made his way over to him. Hello Ianquith. He turned to look at Hers, J'riar. Yours is very nice. Asceth replied warmly. He did like Hers. But before he could say anything else, Asceth could see the distress in the other's gaze. Possibly for the same reason that he had been, before N'tos had assured him. Do not worry. Someone else is taking care.

K'riwar was distracted by all of the attention moving to another part of the room, turning his head with his brow furrowed in worry. What was happening? He leaned, standing on his tiptoes and bracing his hands on J'riar's shoulders so he wouldn't topple. "Apologies, m'friend," he murmured, before lifting his eyebrows when he saw that it was F'sey that had fallen.

Mine? Mine, is everything well? asked Kadiath, twining herself around K'riwar's legs and looking up at him worriedly. What's happening? Is something wrong? K'riwar gently shushed her, lowering himself down onto his feet again and stroking her back. "Someone seems to be ill again..."

Jessan moved forward when N'tos and J'riar beckoned him forward. On the outside was his same, self assured grin. Both of them offered the usual condolences; when his cousin gripped his shoulder and was firm about the fact that he would Impress... Well, what did one say?

"Hey Notos, or is it N'tos now? And thanks Jir-er... Um... And what do I call you, cousin? And the names of your dragons? A pretty green and a handsome, how awesome is that?" He tried to sound light and cheerful but his stomach was weighed down. He wondered if he was going to catch that sickness.

There were already murmurs of another person who had collapsed. This was a rider and not a candidate. He thought whether or not he was going to stay the whole Feast if people were going to be dropping like exhausted runner beasts. A drudge came by with a pitcher of okay wine. Grabbing the man by his arm, Jessan poured himself a rather full cup of wine. Raising his cup, he gave his unsure-but-game face and saluted those around him. "To a healthy and lively group of Hatchlings and their riders. Congratulations all of you."

Being the naturally friendly dragon that she was, Lernaeth did not shy away from Anont's touch, and instead welcomed it, hoping he would scratch an itchy eyeridge that had been bugging her for a bit. In her mind everyone was good, everyone was a friend, and everyone was trusted. Enjoying the feel of the boy's hands on her hide, the green nudged her face upwards into his palm.

She drew herself away from him, however, when Nimwae finally arrived, moving up to her rider and bumping softly into her legs. Very, very slow, Nimwaemine! Tell your clutchmate that he does not have soft hands; they should be soft like lips! She still remembered when Nimwae had flourished kisses on her soon after the Impression. Doubtlessly the memory would be gone soon, but for now she knew hands should be soft. Like lips.

Giggling at the dragon, Nimwae placed one hand on Lernaeth's head and extended the other to Anont. "Thank you! I'm Nimwae, and this is Lernaeth. She seems to have taken a liking to you, but she says your hands are not very soft." Unlike lips! "...unlike lips." Well, this was quickly turning awkward.

Lernaeth noticed Hanya before Nimwae did, and bounded towards the newcomer with eyes of swirling green. Watching as Hanya yawned, the dragon let out a strange laughrumble at the sight. Mine, this clutchmate of yours has a very large mouth. She could eat an entire food in one bite.

Turning slightly away from Anont momentarily, Nimwae smiled at Hanya. A familiar face! "Hanya! It's nice to see you. Thank you! Her name is Lernaeth."

It wasn't hard to catch the whispers and mutters around here. Some sort of sickness... and F'sey had it? He was the Weyrlingmaster, wasn't he? O'asis brooded over this thoughtfully. There were a couple faces that he'd noticed missing... like Kyllae's....

Someone should've seen this coming, after that lice plague. It was the harbinger to warn of overcrowding, how quickly something could spread through the Weyr. And nobody had realized it, it seemed; himself included.

O'asis Mine, Uktenath's voice filled his mind, tell me what you are thinking.

"I'm thinking...." O'asis began, then grimaced. "Shards. I'm thinking that getting everybody together for a celebration might have been dimglowed." If this thing was serious enough to lay so many people flat already, then the last thing the Weyr needed was to throw everyone into a room together for close company. There was no saying who might be contagious....

Uktenath shifted his wings, the faintest sign of the dragonet's unease. Is there danger?

O'asis exhaled loudly, folding his hands behind his neck. "Hard to say... the Healers would know, I bet." The bronze looked up at him, patiently urging. "... We should find someone to ask."

This was to Uktenath's satisfaction. They should find out what was wrong. It was very important that he and His be aware of what was going on in the Weyr, so that they could prepare for it properly. He let out the smallest hint of a positive chirp, and turned his sights upward.

Galliath, he asked, while O'asis began searching the room for someone that would have an in with the Healers, do you know what is making people fall?

Oh, oh... Asceth was a very polite brown, very nice. Her eyes slowly stopped whirling at his reassurances, and she fidgeted with humble pride as Hers was complimented. Thank you... Mine likes Yours, so I know he is nice, too. The one who fell--he is like the others who fell, yes? Oh, oh, oh, this was very worrying indeed.

"J'riar, now." He introduced himself, but did not feel he could do it as proudly as he had liked; he saw his cousin pour himself a rather large cup of wine. "And she is Inaquith..." But his voice was so fond at that, and silently, he asked if the little dragon would mind saying hello. Of course she didn't, and she had soon shyly, if politely crept to Jessan's feet to better peer up at him.

I am very happy to meet him. He is very kind...

"Says she's very happy to meet you, Jess." J'riar repeatedly obediently, his expression smitten as he gazed down at the green. Why, he didn't even mind K'ri using him like a step stool. "You see anything, K'ri?"

Ariaen looked up in time to see F'sey fall. What was going on? This never happened, at least in her lifetime so far. Sakitcuath looked at her, head tilted.

AriaenMine? What is it? she asked, her red eyes changing colors with worry. Ari stood up, to get a better view.

"I don't know, Sikatcuath. Someone fell, like on the Sands earlier. Something is wrong," she said. Their connection spilled worry on either side. What if she got it next? Ariaen shook her head and went to get some kahl. Her green followed her, her eyes swirling back to red. They passed on the out skirts of the large group of weyrlings, trying to not run into anyone. Or have Sikatcuath maul another Candidate.

Ariaen was going to have to talk to her about that some day. It wasn't good to tear through the crowd just to find Hers. That was for another day, she decided, trying to hide a small cough that edged its way out of her.

No. She would not get sick. She would not do it.

Turning to the group at large next to them, Ari supposed she should congratulate the others, or at least the gold rider. She coughed again, but wedged her way into the group.

"Ah... Congratulations on Impressing the Queen. She's quite the beauty," she said to Nandeli, feeling quite awkward. "Congrats to the rest of the group as well." She heard Sikatcuath growl behind her and edged her way back out of the circle.

No need to stay there longer than necessary.

Saying ‘here’ isn’t being very helpful… I can’t find you! Miith whined loudly, and went to the final resort of making E’si do the hard work for them. Ask Galliath’s where Galliath is for me?

E’si sighed, gaze switching back to S’van, but the Weyrling seemed preoccupied, and so he wasn’t keen on bothering him. He could, on the other hand, make this quick and painless, and then let S’van go on to do as he pleased. “Miith wants to know where Galliath is so they can play.” Then one of the new weyrlings was talking to him, and his attention was drawn back to N’tos (with Miith heavily protesting in his head – to which he told her he’d get the answer as soon as possible).

“I’m E’si, I Impressed to Green Miith at the last Hatching,” he replied conversationally, trying his best to be polite. It wasn’t too hard, since he hadn’t found an excuse yet to be mean to N’tos. He wasn’t trying to look for them either, since the boy seemed friendly enough, and also seemed to possess a glow. Maybe this would actually go on well and without an argument in the end. N’tos might actually like him enough put up with him from a day to day basis, which would be a miracle he wasn’t exactly willing to hold out for. But, it was the beginning of a conversation, a lot could go wrong. It was E’si, there wasn’t much more than that to expect.

His head was beginning to whirl with all the conversations he was trying to keep up with, and with a smile he turned back to J’riar. At least liking people made this easier. “I’ll be sure… Yeah, she says she’s looking forward to being able to play with you.” Of course, he wasn’t sure he wanted to know what she thought of J’riar’s green – he wasn’t going to ask. Sometimes it was just best not to ask. Miith wouldn’t have to see J’riar’s green if she didn’t want to.

His good mood going down the drain in 3… 2… 1…

What?” and all attempts at being polite and nice were out the window as Nandeli teased him. When it came to his sexuality, jokes were, quite honestly, not appreciated. With a strong force of will, he tried to keep himself from saying anything else, though he couldn’t help the way his brows knitted, nor how his lips curled down into a harsh and critical frown.

'Eassssy grumpy' fit him rather well in that moment.

The little cousin looking to Jessmet is larger, Ailurath pointed out. Sensing he was being talked about, Trundelbug chirped at the gold, mantling his wings in a sort of a bow. Of course, since he was perched on Jessmet's shoulder he didn't have a lot of space. The girl carefully removed one brown wing from her ear.

Ailurath eyed Kia skeptically. My legs do not wave like that. Perhaps she is stranger than we thought.

Jessmet accepted a goblet of wine from the server, toasting Jessan in return and sipping appreciatively.

"It's F'sey, J'ri," replied K'riwar, glancing up at the other from loving on his Green. "He's fallen, like the others on the Sands, it seems... I hope it's not that something's going around. I thought it was just the heat of the Sands and Candidates being tired, but this is a Rider, and he's off of the Sands now."

He sighed heavily, looking wary as he glanced around at the group. Was everyone sick? Kadiath whined softly and leaned against him, feeling her Rider's worry.

"J'riar, now that sounds right. Just imagine the fit your old man is going to have when he finds out you Impressed! You will be the talk of the winter camp for ages to come," Jessan remarked, taking another swig of his wine.

When the darling green approached him and peered up, an actual lump formed in his throat. He had to wait a moment before he could say anything. His blue eyes hinted at gray now, the only real betrayal of the torrent of emotions on the inside. "Hello Inaquith. You are such a lovely lady. I am Jessan, your rider's cousin."

Looking around, he spotted the man who had fallen. At least he was being taken care of by others. Some other riders and celebrators were looking flushed and warm. Maybe it was having so many together. Jessan tried not to act paranoid at such a happy occasion. "I wonder if it was such a good idea to have the feast right away. Many look ill."

He finished his cup of wine withe the third swallow. Motioning a female drudge this time, Jessan helped himself to another cup. He would just have to remember to eat soon so that it did not all go to his head.

"N'tos.. you're right about that." He had such a short name, it probably was the only thing that it could've been shortened to. "And he is Asceth." He gestured towards the brown.Seeing Jessan pour himself some wine, Notos took a cup also. It wasn't bad wine, it suited Notos as he sipped from it.

"Ah.. I see." Notos said wisely as he turned back to E'si. Now that he mentioned it, Notos remembered his impression. "I don't believe I've sad congratulations the last time though. Let me offer my belated congrats."

Notos was beginning to have a headache himself with all these conversations and multitasking. He saw that he could pause momentarily though, as E'si spoke to J'riar once again.

Asceth was glad to see the green a bit less worried now. The problem was still very much there though. He turned to Jessan though, despite his worries. Through his lidded gaze, he could see that His was talking to someone that he did not know. "Mines.. friend?" He questioned slowly, looking at N'tos. Yes. Notos replied easily; Asceth put a gentle claw on Jessan's other foot where Ianquith was not. He looked at Jessan, I see your friend is nice.

Missing the explosion with E'si, Noto's gaze turned questioning at the frown that E'si had on his face. He was guessing that he didn't like whatever had been said..? Well, since Notos didn't quiite want to get in the way of that, he turned back towards Jessan. Remembering the comment Notos laughed, repeating it to Jessan. "I think Asceth likes you too. You have a couple of dragon admirers there." He joked, staring down at Asceth with such adoration. He stopped though with the easy posture and snapped back to reality, overhearing K'riwar's words. Again? This was going to become worrisome if this wasn't dealt with soon. It hadn't been just the hatching grounds then? Asceth picked up on his rider's worry, feeling the same thing. He crooned, wondering how he could help.
