Alexander was just about to sneak off when Brevan caught him. He smiled weakly, muttering, "Yeah, I guess you could say I brought her here." He began to look from cook to cook, looking for the biggest batch of anything edible. "The catch is that we're both pretty hungry," he finished awkwardly.

Alexander had always felt awkward around Brevan. He wasn't sure exactly why, whether it was the long, shaggy hair or the thick forearms...But Alexander had a sneaking suspicion that it had something to do with the fact that Brevan could move each eye independently, giving him a wider peripheral vision than most. Alexander always felt like those eyes could see right through him, and he didn't like it. There were some things he didn't want anyone to know about...

He freed himself from Brevan's grasp to look around a bit, gaining confidence with each step. He knew from the aromas what he was going to ask for before he even saw it: a rich, creamy white sauce, pasta cooked to perfection, and succulent shrimp caught locally and bought for dirt cheap. It was one of the best items on the menu- in terms of both quality and price. "Is there enough of this for two?" he asked the chef preparing it pleasantly, reaching a hand to sample it. He was rewarded with a quick, dull thwack on the back of his hand.

The girl, obviously a new chef, whipped her head to glare at Alexander. "Yes, but this is for paying customers," she said sharply. "If you'd like some, you can wait your turn like everyone else. And keep your hands out of my dishes!" The girl went back to her cooking, neatly spreading it on two plates and placing them on the rack to be taken to customers. Alexander sullenly made his way back to Brevan, who was faithfully keeping watch over both the princess and the dishes around her.

"A relative of yours, Brevan? Niece maybe?" Alexander asked. "I see she has your hair..." He shook his hand, which was still stinging. "...And your old temper. Or was it an initial dislike of me that she inherited?" he said jokingly.

Brevan tossed his head back and chuckled loudly. “She’s no relative of mine Alexander. And it’d be best to stay clear of her while she cooks,” he added with a grimace. “Because she does bite,” he roared in laughter again. Aliora glanced over her shoulder as another cook much scrawnier-looking than Brevan was giving her a taste-test of his dish. Her eyes squinted as she noticed how Brevan’s stomach jiggled whenever her laughed or spoke. She covered her dainty hand over her lips to hide out her amused smile and turned to the cook who held a large wooden spoon to her lips. She looked at the creamy contents of the spoon. An aroma of herds and spices filled her nose, as she smelled the stew before taking a taste. The warm thick liquid filled her mouth with an explosion of flavor. “Very nice,” she complimented with a smile. The cook looked thrilled and quickly went back to cooking.

“So when do we eat?” Aliora asked, turning to Brevan and Alexander with a smile.

“Brilliant!” Brevan hurried to say as he swatted Alexander’s shoulders. “I already like her,” he chuckled. He snapped his fingers together, which had summoned two butlers to his side. He whispered something to them and they hurried off.

“Dinner will be ready soon my lady,” Brevan bowed his head. Aliora nodded her head with a smile and quickly glanced to a door that led off somewhere outside. She blew Brevan and kiss before heading towards the door. Brevan’s cheeks blushed bright red much brighter than his beard and hair.

Aliora opened the door and stepped outside. The air was cold from the rain but thankfully it had stopped raining. She breathed deeply and rubbed her shoulders as she closed the door behind her. She looked around to take notice that even the townspeople were busy with their own little things.

Back inside Brevan had nudged Alexander with his shoulder. “Hey,” his voice low as he lowered his head to Alexander’s head level. “What’s she doing ‘ere?” he asked as he motioned to the door’s window looking at the back of Aliora’s head.

“This town is no place for a Princess,” he said warily. “There’s been word of something brewing. My cooks are afraid to go home at night sometimes,” he said. There was no joke or nonsense coming from Brevan as he spoke. His face and tone was hard—serious.

He pulled his head back and brushed his fingertips over his messy beard. “So I ask again,” he paused and glanced to Aliora. “What’s she doing ‘ere?” he questioned.

Alexander looked at Brevan for a moment, then calmly said, "I've got it under control. You should know better by now." As he spoke, his hand casually went to rest on the hilt of his sword, still attached to his belt. "Or do you think I can't handle another dragon like the one from not so long ago?"

His hand slipped off the blade and Alexander grinned. "Your men are scared because they're superstitious, they think these things are immortal," Alexander said quietly, "But they're not. All it takes is a little p***k and-" At that moment, a fire roared up a few cooks down and went back to normal, leaving a very shaken-up looking cook and a few trails of smoke from what he was cooking.

Alexander raised his eyebrows and nodded a little, grinning wider. "Well, something similar to that happens." He then turned and walked out of the door to stand next to the princess. "So," he said casually. "You seem to be in an awful hurry. Where were you headed that was so urgent you had to fly in the pounding rain?"

He took a few casual steps off to one side, looking up at the sky innocently. "Methinks you were headed somewhere like the Sunning Rocks," he said in a playful tone. "Everyone is just dying to get there this year..." His tone suddenly became serious and he looked Aliora in the eyes. "Some quite literally...Which is why I'm going to accompany you there, and make sure you arrive safely." He took a few steps, towards a nearby table and sat down, beckoning the princess to join him. "Now, we'll need to come up with a strategy for flying if we're to-"

But again, at that precise moment a pair of chefs came out to join them, each carrying medium-sized plates, each with a large mug situated next to the metal dome that housed the food.

Alexander swore under his breath, then turned around to face the chefs with a smile. "Gentlemen, just in time!" He said heartily. "What's on the menu for tonight?"

Aliora reverted her eyes away from Alexander as the men came out carrying the trays of food. She followed one of the waiters to a table. The weather was fairly fine, a bit damp but not at all that cold. She sat down, reaching to the table and folded her napkin on her lap as the waiter pushed her chair in so that she was closer to the table. “Yes. What is on the menu?” she asked sweetly, looking as a man carrying a tray came up beside her. “Smells delicious,” she smiled as he took the silver plate from the tray and placed it in front of her. “A classical masterpiece,” he started. “Shrimp gumbo with a tender piece of pork on the side,” he said as he lifted the metal dome that covered the food. Aliora leaned forwards a bit and was greeted by wonderous, tasty aromas and a sight that even made her mouth water. There was a fairly large bowl of gumbo topped with parsley and on the side was a smaller plate with a piece of freshly seasoned pork tenderloin. “Compliments to the chef,” she quickly glanced to the waiter. He nodded his head and excused himself. Aliora knew that it would be rude not waiting for Alexander to take his seat, but her stomach growled in hunger. She dipped her spoon into the spicy gumbo and took a quick sip of it. She felt as though her tongue was going to burst because of the flavor. She giggled quietly before taking another bite. She just couldn’t get enough!

“Come Alexander. You must try this!” Aliora said, glancing back at the young man. She dipped the spoon back into the gumbo, pulling it out and holding it to Alexander. “Try it,” she smiled brightly. “I wont talk about any buisness of Sunning Rocks until you’ve taken a bite,” she grimaced as she looked at Alexander.
