In roleplay profiles the term 'race' often means 'species'. Just check if it is an all human roleplay or not. If it isn't said anywhere that the roleplay is humans only then 'race' most likely means species. Another way to check is to just look at the accepted profiles.

Name: Miles Lensmark Race: Human, but a ghost. Age: Has existed for more then 50 years, but was only alive for 26 of those. Sex: Male Personality Traits: Normally relaxed he could quickly turn intent and serious, though it never lasted long. Miles had many goals when he was alive, but could never stick with any of them long enough to accomplish it. He often came up with wild conspiracy theory's that he didn't truly believe in, and was very opinionated. He was fairly cheerful, but had occasional bouts of melancholy. Since dying he has gone a little insane, because he has no one to talk to. He spends his time wandering. but always comes back to the library because during his life he was consider a bit of a loser and spent most of his time there. He enjoyed reading and was working on a novel when he died, but considering his personality it was unlikely he would have finished it even if fate hadn't intervened. While in the library he will follow people around and read whatever they are reading, since he can't open books or flip pages himself. Because of his insanity, Miles thinks the characters in the books he reads are real, and he often talks to them. He has a phobia of cats, as they can see him. This irrationally terrifies him because he has gone so long without being noticed. Cats rarely come into the library, which is why he isn't used to them. He can ramble for hours to himself, or to the characters in 'his' books. His phobia of being seen or noticed leads to the odd way he communicates with the one person who can see him. Physical Traits: Miles is tall and lanky, with slightly wavy dark brown hair. He wears a white dress shirt, no tie, with the sleeves rolled up to just above his elbows. This shirt has a large blood stain on the left shoulder and part of the chest. He also wears brown pants, and rectangular glasses. His eyes are light brown. He has a habit of pulling on his hair, causing it to stick out strangely. If you could see him, and could convince him to remove his shirt, you'd see a shotgun scar on the upper left side of his chest. His skin is pale, but not starkly so. Even though he is a ghost, he is not transparent, simply either invisible, or perfectly normal looking. He is very very lightly freckled. History: Miles was working as an assistant librarian at a local high school when a group of students smuggled guns into the school and shot all the teachers and 'authority figures' they came across. Miles was helping a teacher instruct students on research when one of the group burst into the room and opened fire on what he perceived to be two teachers in the front of a group of kids. The teacher miles was with survived, but he did not. In fact, Miles was the only casualty of the entire attack. After many decades alone, as a ghost, Miles has never seen any others like him, and theorizes that something in the area, himself, or his death caused his consciousness to survive while his body rotted. What that unique factor maybe he has no way of knowing. Recently a 14 year old girl moved to his town who had a near-death experience, and can see him. The first time she noticed him his phobia made him run away, terrified, and on subsequent occasions she has communicated with him by ignoring him, sitting in the library and writing messages to him that he would read over her shoulder, then reply to out loud. This doesn't frighten him, illogically, and he has taken to accompanying her almost everywhere. When they are alone she will sometimes speak directly to him, though this still unnerves him. Omg that was really fun to write, i haven't roleplayed for ages! Dammit now I want to start rping again.....
I might make another profile for her, I just made Miles up for fun and critique, but i find myself really liking him, maybe I will write him a story or something.

Long posts aren't a bad thing. As a matter of fact, most of the folks around here view that as a mark of a good literate RPer. I'm not much into ghosts, but your character seems quite well developed. And the fact that the girl had a "near-death" and can see him, lends to him being visible to some others. I personally think he'd have to overcome his phobia of people to be able to solve the mystery of his semi-death, and move on to the real afterlife (whatever that may be).
Now for the questions that make you think... If the reason he's still there is an object, there should be other 'ghosts' too. Can he see them? Would he be afraid of them too. WHY is he REALLY afraid of living things, could that be linked to his half death? Will he eventually solve the mystery of his 'existence' or will he be doomed like that forever? You have a nice character, think on how he can interact with his environment over time. It'll make for some interesting thought-provoking brain usage.

I'm really not that great at coming up with 'fantastic' powers or any sort of fighters, and I'm rather tired at the moment, so I hope that not pushing my limits and creating a school/romance sort of character won't be too much of an inconvenience to you. I'm not a fan of such characters myself... Name: Luke Eckman
Race: Human
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Personality Traits: To most others, Luke appears cold, his eyes seem to emit a message telling them to keep their distance. He's been told by various supposed professionals that he has built up a wall, the accusers ranging from psychics to his therapist. Luke has steadfastedly denied that he has formed any barrier between him and the outside world, but over the past year, he has slowly come to terms with the fact that he is in a shell, mainly due to the fact that he physically cannot bring himself to cry. Over periods of time, Luke socializes with those with similar tastes in music, film, or literature, and of course comics. He only lets them in on his life to a certain degree, and he lets his therapist in on the details of his life to no degree. No, not to no degree, once he asked his therapist if there was a medication for depersonalization disorder, for he had grown sick of living his life drifting back and forth between his material body and whatever he was not, or so it had seemed to him. Of course, this divulgence of information was to no avail, for to this date, there is no cure. The only real time he expresses himself, or his emotions, is when he laughs or smiles, which are nearly always at his own pain, or others.
Physical Traits: Luke's hair has been dyed numerous colors, not to stand out, merely out of boredom- He has come to enjoy the shock painted across the faces of others when he dyes it some color assumed 'out of his character'. As of now, it happens to be a bright shade of red. His skin is a rich tan, natural, though how he developed this tan is unknown to him and those who observe him. This can lead to some sidelong glances when he dyes his hair a particularly pastel shade, though he revels in the bewilderment he is cast. His skin is marked by deep gashes, most prominent on the outside of his right lower leg, assumed by most hired to study him because he is right handed, though it is possible that the spot being repeatedly opened by a knife is due to some other, unexplained mental pattern. The rest of his body is covered by scars, and few fresh gashes, the only areas truly left unmarked are his neck, wrist, back, and genitals. The lack of marks on his neck or wrist prove that he is rather careful to avoid death at least at the present, the reasons for this have not been clarified by him, though more can be assumed. His back remaining unscathed implicates that he has not received help from another human, though that is not definite. The clothes he wears often consist of various Victorian era clothes, though he switches between the Steampunk style and the "Elegant Gothic Aristocrat” style, though he shuns the word “gothic” whenever it crops up, most likely due to the fact that he has been indoctrinated by the comics he reads in such a dedicated manner. He shuns any label, even Steampunk, though to less of a degree being that it is not known to the entire US population, as most labels seem to be.
History: Luke was born into a middle class family, with a father having plenty of determination, but lacking in talent. His mother was kind, if not overbearing, for the majority of his life, until she snapped. The explanation for this major shift in her personality is unexplained, and will most likely not be resolved soon due to her strong opposition to seeing a psychologist. When Luke was about 9, his mother became an overwhelmingly outgoing, crass human, showing utter nonchalance for her son. At first, Luke was rather happy with the freedom she gave him, until she offered him illegal drugs at age 13. Of course, he was clearly ecstatic with the ’gift’ at the time of receiving. When he had a dreadful reaction that left him hospitalized, he was rather angry, when she did not check in on him, he was torn between an urge to mutilate himself, and an urge to mutilate her. After spending just under a week in the hospital, seething with anger, he gave in to the latter. His father had called the hospital for his son, and one week later called one for his wife. This incident changed Luke’s life dramatically, first of all, he realized, he did have a taste for blood, second, he realized that knives helped him release, a need that had cropped up for as long as he could remember, finally, he found himself at a mental clinic. The stay at the mental clinic is blurred in his mind, with only certain parts of it coming back to him. He refuses to relay the incident to anyone. When he was released from the hospital, he kept himself secluded in record stores and comic shops. In that time, he found various bands that he loved the sound of, paying no heed to the genre, and stumbled across several comic books that satiated his thirst for blood, well, other’s blood. He still craved the release from the pent up emotion that he acquired from self-mutilation, and so he performed the actions, as riddled by guilt from them as he was. School took him as it did to most people his age, though maybe he turned a few more heads during the beginning and end of the year when he wore long sleeves and trousers. He began dying his hair during the year, in hopes to reverse the monotony the year had been causing. This turned a quite a few more heads, but he grew used to it.
Ummm, yeah. I did my best to leave a lot of places where some more serious mental disorders could develop. As far as I know, it’s all plausible, and accurate. I tried to keep specific bands and comics unnamed, though the bands are rather obvious due to ‘Luke’s’ love of all things Steampunk and Victorian, and the comics are probably obvious due to their references to blood. Oh well. And it’s rather long…
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm relatively new to Role Playing Games, I've posted maybe 3 posts on a band's forum in an RPG that was themed around a Victorian Asylum. I disliked my character because I found it hard to relate to her, I wound up killing her off. Or telling someone else to kill her off. But I do have some experience writing things, mainly monologues. I also overuse commas.

A) It's not an inconvenience, I just can't give as much advice about it.
B) It's very long, I'm starting to think more people should create characters when they're tired, because that's when your imagination is the strongest.
The best 'label' for him would be 'emo'. The mother could have bipolar, or have suffered some severe trauma (perchance a "Mad Scientist?"), that she needed to fend off. And in so doing, became the druggy she became. It sounds like if the mother could fix herself up, he'd see that is would be possible for him to shape up as well. The fact that he's still mutilating himself contradicts the fact that the hospital let him go. They wouldn't have let someone go if he were still injuring himself. And the required check-up visits would have noticed any NEW cuts, and gores. So... either he DIDn't harm himself for long enough (likely over a year) to convince the doctors to let him be. Or he IS getting wrecked by someone else, who's trying to make him look like he's doing himself in.
PS: What IS it with all the people who like RPing such dark characters. If it isn't a mutilator, it's someone who got raped, if it isn't that, then they want to play as some demonic being bent on causing horrible pain to others (vampire, demon, werewolf, ghost, crazed murderer) It's really quite disconcerting. I hope I get a HAPPY character sometime soon, or I'll go bonkers. And none of these characters that's so happy he's oblivious to the problems he causes others.

Quote: The best 'label' for him would be 'emo' I hate labels as much as Luke does, so I'm going to argue with that. Haha. The thing that I was trying to establish was that he wasn't so much self-pitying as just not being able to reveal to anyone how he feels, and coming across calm, all the time. Quote: The fact that he's still mutilating himself contradicts the fact that the hospital let him go. They wouldn't have let someone go if he were still injuring himself. Actually, I was sort of basing what his mental clinic would have been like off of an experience from someone I know quite well, and I'm pretty sure this is feasible. He hadn't figured out self mutilation was something he saw himself doing until after he attacked his mother. Also, he wasn't self-injuring at the mental clinic, considering he wouldn't be able to. They take everything you can possibly use to commit suicide or harm yourself from you, even things like shoelaces. Quote: PS: What IS it with all the people who like RPing such dark characters. I don't think he would be dark all the time, there could be some particularly entertaining conversations and banter that come from his morbid personality type during conversations with the friends who share similar interests, he just wouldn't be laughing particularly loudly throughout them. Well, if you like that sense of humor.

Morbid (humor or not) is dark. Laughing cruelly counts as dark. I just wish some people would do cheery folks in their RPs. My ogre has a rough past, but he's gotten over it, and is now a good-natured kind of guy. Despite his ugly, intimidating appearance.

Well, I see where you're coming from. I can't say there's much of a chance of me making up a particularly perky character, though, considering I don't really find characters without a bit of a twisted sense of humor particularly relatable, and they'll come off more contrived.

My ogre dude was kicked out of his ogre clan for being too smart. Yes, it was stressful for him at the time, but if they hadn't, he wouldn't have been able to enhance his skillset.
I can say your character is quite thought out. And I would hope he's in a redemptive RP, but that's just the way I roll. Have fun with him though. He could be something great.

Hmm, Redemption... I was actually thinking it was a possibility that he develops schizophrenia and gives into the voices...
So, once I've come up with a character for this class, what do I do next?

I made this character for an rp that i'm putting together this weekend, and thought i'd see if it would work online (when I get around to it).
Name: 'Lottie' – That's just what everybody calls her, since her real name (if she has one) has never become apparent. Her real name is Sabrina Hendrix (see History).
Race: Human, though showing some traits of recent metaphysical/chemical contamination.
Age: Visually undetermined by those around her, she's actually 62.
Sex: Female, though again, it doesn't show.
Personality Traits: Normally quiet, she will respond when given a direct question. In which case, she will give a very direct, if somewhat linear, answer. The quality of the answer will generally match what she determines to be the intelligence of the question. Stupid people annoy her. In fact, most people annoy her. She tends to spend most of her social time (which isn't much) with those that have disabilities, and those who genuinely don't take themselves too seriously. Will tend to walk away from a fight, but for those who insist, she will discuss it with them quietly (and very determinedly). They usually leave her alone, though others don't hear all that she says. She shares what she has, and always seems to have what's needed, though no one can figure out where she comes up with what she does have. Not that she's around much (see History).
Physical Traits: Slumps a lot. Grubby clothes that are impossibly layered, floppy hat, lanky hair that doesn't seem to have a lot of color. Ashen face (but maybe just really dirty). Any one who can spot it sees that she carries herself with out a lot of intent (martial arts term, for those who don't know), and is ready for anything. But, on the outside, she can appear nearly submissive to those who are looking for a fight.
History: Mother died when she was young. Moved around with her Father between military bases. Studied several forms of martial arts as a child, but rarely went into competition. She just continued as a matter of principle. It was not her practice to tell more than her closest friends, due to the fact that she didn't want to use it any more than she had to. Grew up to become a History Professor in a large university, and chose a permanent home in the Southwest United States. After the Holocaust, she followed the rest of the survivors out of into the slums that were left. Not having an outlet for her former skills (she considered a Ph.D. in History useless for survival), she stayed in the slums with the rest, helping when she could.
Comments? It's just a rough draft, though. Not too good before coffee. xd
