Nodding, looking somewhat bewildered she grinned and closed her eyes in contentment returning the nuzzles.
She giggled at his saying this was in her genes and opened her mouth to tell her dad it didn't work that way.
Then he pushed her.
Instead of what she had been going to say a scream came out that was half fun and half fright. " AHHHHHHHHHHH!" it nearly drowned out Ziggy's words telling her to kick. Barely hearing him Lunaria started kicking just as hard and as fast as she could, her tiny paws flailing before she struck a rhythm and finally took a breath that ended in a giggle as she paddled towards the beach riding the wave in.

Ziggy jumped off the rock and followed slightly behind her laughing, and watching her very proudly as she rode the wave into the beach. As they came closer to the beach, he brushed a paw through his hair and said, "Woah! Sick ride little wahini! What'd ya think of your first taste of the wave ride?" He was glowing with pride.

"That was great!" She called back, slowing her kicking as the beach drew closer in her vision. She was glad to hear Ziggy's voice closer behind her, she didn't dare turn her head and look for him for fear of falling.
Momentarily as she kicked she felt her paw brush sand and she dropped her legs down, slowing to a stop as the wave finished its roll to the beach.
"I loved that! Can we do it again!?!" Resting her weight on her back paws she turned the board around to look at her dad, a very happy light in her eyes as she smiled.

Ziggy bound up to her and couldn't help but grin from ear to ear and upon hearing her wish to do it again, he promptly started jumping around with excitement saying, "Cha! Totally! Alright! Here grab on little dudette!" He grabbed the rope to the boogie board and began bounding for the rock where they had just been.
The waves beneath the board swelled and lowered, and then were mild for a minute. Ziggy waited for another swell to hit, and immediately saw 3 waves forming on their way towards them, they were a bit bigger then the previous one, and he looked at Lunaria and asked, " Hey, like, you see those 3 bumps coming up? They, like, may not look it, but they are going to be a bit bigger then the one you ran last time. Do you feel brave enough to ride it?"
He looked at her and said, "It's okay if you want to wait, smaller sets will follow."

Lunaria kicked to help Ziggy tow her back out to where they'd been. Turning her head around at his words the board shook under her but she kept her balance, though it was close. Nodding once she saw the swells she flashed another smile and said " Of course I'm brave enough to, I'm your lil wahini!"

Ziggy beamed and watched the wave approach, "Okay, ready...? Kick!" He gave her a light push and again jumped in after her, and followed. "Make sure to balance!"

As soon as Lunaria felt the push and the wave started to lift her she kicked hard again. The wave started to gather in speed and strength under her. As her dad reminded her to balance she nodded her head. As lucky would have it that was the moment that the first wave slid out from under her, so the force of her nodding tipped the board nose down into the water and it caught as the combination of the next wave and her kicking pushed it farther into the down.
She realized what was happening and at least had the foresight to gasp in a short full breath as the water burbled towards her. Gripping the board tight she kicked harder, reminding herself to not be afraid of the water, as she forced her eyes open despite the sting of salt.

Ziggy saw at once what was happening, and dove underwater towards his daughter. With the boogie board wanting to rise, he saw his daughter was one the wrong side and soon glided through the water by her side. He then slid under her and stood up, pushing her face out of the water so she could take a breath. He called out to her, "Hang on!" As the third wave in the run fell on top of them. Ziggy twisted to face the wave as it approached and ducked under as it as it grew. It lifted them both up, but Ziggy swam past the wave and the water lowered again so that he and Luna could catch some air.
Ziggy looked around and saw that the boogie board had washed up on shore, and slowly began swimming back towards the shallower waters, he looked back at his daughter who was holding on to his back and asked, "Are you okay?" He was worried, and it showed in his tone.

Colors of dark and light blue spun through her vision like a kalidiscope, but she held tight to the board and kept kicking. She felt her paw connect with something solid and then felt the warm body of her dad beneath her. As soon as she knew he was there she let go of the board and clung to her dad she the lights stopped spinning as she felt the air hit her ears. Shaking her head to clear the water she sucked in another deep breath as Ziggy shifted and dived again and the kalidiscope of blue returned and dissapeared.
Lunaria coughed a bit, clearing the small amount of water she'd hiccuped in and giggled just as Ziggy looked back at her. " It was sooo pretty there was all this blue and it was spinning and it was like dark and light and shiny and....wow....just WOW!"

Ziggy chuckled with relief and padded her on the back gently, "I'm just glad you're like, okay. What say you and I take a small break from this and get some munchies? I'm proud of you doll. You did real good." He padded up to the boogie board and started dragging it up before it got pulled back into the waves. "We'll take another go at it after lunch, how's that sound?"

"Awww, but Dad, I'm not hungry yet, and I was having sooo much fun!" No sooner had she spoken then her stomach let loose its counter opinion with a loud grumble. She looked down in mild surprise. " Urms.... OK....I guess I am hungry" With a rueful grin she padded up the beach behind Ziggy towards the blanket. " But you PROMISE we can go back in the water after I eat!?!"

Ziggy nodded enthusiastically, "You bet chica but we will have to wait like um, uh.... some time before jumping in again. Don't want tummy aches. But now worries, the ocean will always be waiting... or something." He set the boogie board with a shrug and grabbed a towel throwing it over to Lunaria and grabbing the second one to wipe off the excess water.
He opened the ice chest and pulled out a turkey sandwich for him, 2 boxes of juice, and turned to Lunaria, "Would you like bird or fish in your sammich?" He grinned and sat down on the beach blanket under the refreshing shade of the umbrella. "I also have some chips and stuff in there, but sammich first, okay? It's like, good for you."

Toweling off, Lunaria swallowed back a small snort of laughter. Ziggy was really trying hard to be a good dad. It was touching, and flattering she couldn't help but smile. " Bird please!" she stretched out on the blanket laying her head down on her paws.

Ziggy handed her the other turkey sandwich from the ice chest and the juice box. He opened up the baggy around his sandwich and took a bite, then sat down on his haunches and started talking with his mouth full he, "So like, I heard on like the answering machine, that you had some questions for me or whatever." He opened his juice box and took a deep sip and washed the food down his throat. He cleared it and continued, "What's up Luna-pop? You can ask me anything you want!"

Finding herself suddenly ravenous Lunaria pulled the bag off and took a huge bite as Ziggy spoke. Realizing what he was talking about she swallowed without chewing and went into a small coughing fit. After she recovered she set her sandwich aside and reached for her book. " Well, something strange has been happening to me..... I thought you might be able to help....." As she spoke she pulled the small baggie of shimmering iridescent powder from its hiding spot in her book.
