He seemed a bit startled at the offer, at first, but quickly recovered himself. "Sure! ...I mean, if that's all right with you." he quickly amended, not wanting to sound like he was pouncing on the offer, though that was exactly what he was doing.

His mind had been left to draw its own conclusions about what was discussed on such visits and she'd never told him much beyond saying the baby was still hanging in there.

"Now when you say ultrasound," he went on after a moment "you mean like the real thing? We'll get to see it on a screen and all?"

"Then of course I'll go." he told her, glancing to her to offer her a smile before quickly returning his eyes to the road. "And maybe we can both rest a little easier afterward."

He said 'maybe' only because, no matter what the outcome was, sleep would be lost. If it was favorable, as they hoped it would be, there would be late nights of thinking of names and making arrangements. And if it wasn't....

He banished that thought. There would NOT be a second case scenario, he promised himself. Everything was going to be okay.

Turning at a light up ahead brought them to the intersection where the fast food drive-thru they'd stopped at earlier was perched...and across from it, the car dealership.

Zhane accepted the keys, his fingers closing around them and feeling their slight weight in his palm as he tried to process that it had really been that easy. That they had gone in with a small sporty purple car and were now leaving with the silver monster Nani was admiring.

Some changes were subtle, others were like a brick to the face.

Nonetheless, he smiled. "Thanks." he told the dealer. "Have a good day, all right?" He was already headed across the lot toward his fiance to join her in looking over the SUV.

"Pretty big change, huh?" he laughed, catching her momentarily around the waist to kiss her cheek.

He smiled, even as she pulled away to get into the new vehicle. ....and then paused with his hand on the driver's side handle, looking thoughtful a moment.

"Why don't you drive?" he suggested, leaning to peer across the SUV's nose at her. "You traded in your car and all, love, you should be first behind the wheel." The smile broadened to a teasing grin "Its a rule, I think. Probably. Maybe."

The smile slipped as she approached and he carefully hugged her, mindful of the slight swell of her belly as he did so. "No, no, don't worry about it." he assured her. "I was just being silly, Nani. Don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable right now."

Inwardly, he gave himself a kick. He should have known there was a perfectly good reason she'd not wanted to drive lately.

"Tell you what," Zhane said, leaning against the driver's door, half in an idle shift in posture, half to keep it from being opened for a moment. "I need to get used to driving it anyway, so I'll drive if you help me watch the turns." he offered, reaffixing the smile back to where it belonged.

His eyes flicked to the size of the wheels. "....and if you warn me if I'm running over small countries." he chuckled.

He grinned as she returned to the other side. "Understood." he told her, pausing to take a breath and open the driver's door to climb in. The first thing to strike him was a wave of 'new car' smell. The second thing, as he sat in the seat was how....high it felt.

He reached down to adjust the seat after closing the door before resting his hands on the steering wheel. Hm, this would take a little getting used to....
