Brandon scrambled from the seat, practically skipping down the aisle. He kept turning his head looking at each of the passengers. There were so many! And each looked different. He felt special, because a few even smiled at him...some did look like his grandmother though, to balance it out. He made the scary trek between cars, feeling proud of himself for surviving it, but scared to do it again.
Racing through the second car, he continued to stare at the people , not watching where he was going. He didn't even realize the was someone in front of him, until he slammed into the Asian woman.
Elizabeth couldn't believe that she was on this train with that abomination. But she was glad that he was gone for a moment. Taking out a handkerchief, she dabbed at her forehead, then turned to look at the two girls beside her, "Pardon me, young ladies, but with my grandson making so much racket, I did not see the last spot we passed, you know how children are," she used the same term as she would have pigs, "Do you know where we are?"

As she was walking, a small boy ran into her, knocking her almost off balance. Leaning forward some she caught herself and placed her hands on the child's shoulders, "you should be careful. Slow down and enjoy your time, child. Where are you off to in such a hurry?" she asked quietly. Though she still seemed somewhat nervous, she always seemed to settle down some around children. They were somewhat of a weakness of hers, but for various reasons. She put a smile on to comfort the boy and let him know she wasn't angry with him.

On instinct, Brandon hung his head, and whispered, "I'm sorry ma'am." He raised it quickly, realizing she wasn't going to yell at him at all. He gave her an excited grin, holding up the bill clutched in his hand, "I'm allowed to get a soda!" His eyes shined as he told her, "And I doubt Grams will notice if I explore a little bit longer too!" He knew that she was just grateful for him to be gone, and even if he came back less than a minute after, she would yell at him for taking so long.

The woman blinked but smiled again at the boy's enthusiasm, "that is good...would you like company some to the drinks?" she paused a moment and rephrased again, "would you like some company to the drinks?" she corrected.

The little boy giggled at the funny wording. It wasn't a vicious laugh; it was a pure laugh that only children have. He nodded eagerly, then suddenly his mother's warning came to mind. He wasn't supposed to talk to strangers. He screwed up his face as he thought about it. They could take him away, if he did talk to them, but there wasn't any place to go. Besides this lady was nice, and his mom had to only be talking about bad guys. He held out his hand thought and said confidently, "I'm Brandon."

Mattie made his way back to the car with his things in them. He swept his long hair back behind his shoulder as he dug through his things, checking to make sure everything was still there. Satisfied that it was, he sighed in relief and sat down. He could see the uptight elderly woman a few rows down, but didn't se the boy with her. Guess he managed to escape, he thought to himself. Just in case she'd noticed him looking in her direction, he nodded politely at her before looking down at the cell phone he'd pulled from his pocket.

The woman smiled at the boy, "Brandon, nice name" she said and took his hand as she moved toward the food/drink car with him, "You may call me Kimiko" she replied politely so he had a name to give her. Children were so innocent. She sighed faintly as a thought crossed her mind, but let it pass quickly.

"No, sweetie," Katie said, "we just met. Kinda like you and me." She looked around to see if Mattie was coming back, but it didn't look like he was. "I should go see where he got off to," she said, half to Anika and half to herself.
"No, that's okay," Tobias said with a small smile. "I'd slow you down."

Mana shook her head and slapped Mattie in the lower back as he passed. After Tobias spoke, she just looked at him incredulously. "You kiddin' me? I need someone ta slow me down! I'll shoot right out the back o' the train if no one is there to stop me." She smiled, but she wasn't kidding. She'd more likely run someone over and cause serious damage.

((I'm really sorry that I haven't posted in a while, I've been sick, I'm sorry!))
Brandon flashed the woman a smile, and his tiny hand shot out, "It's nice to meet you, Kimiko!" He sounded so excited, as if she had given him a real treasure with her name. He leaned forward, his eyes sparkled as he asked, "Are you allowed to get a soda too?"
For a moment, Elizabeth returned the nod, but cut it short when she realized that it was a boy. Her lip curled in disgust, and she turned her face away. What did he think he was? A rock star? It was sad how some children turn out.

Mattie scratched the side of his head in confusion, but shrugged and dug for his bottle of aspirin. He hadn't realized the extent of his headache until now. His vision was even going from clear to blurry. As he searched, he muttered quietly to himself. "No wonder the kid looked so unhappy sitting with her..."

Elizabeth cleared her throat loudly. She turned to look at the boy, keeping her back rigid. Looking down at him, she cleared her throat once more, "Girl, you're going to need to speak up if you want me to hear you. Try to enunciate instead of mumbling." She looked down her nose at him, her gaze almost cruel. Her eyes gained a challenging appearance to them: it was as if she knew that he would not win this, and that she would enjoy teaching him a lesson. "Maybe you'll learn something during this train ride, something your parents should have beat into you before." She sounded like she enjoyed making people suffer, almost as much as she hated them for being inferior.
((Wow, it's hard to make a mean old lady.))

Mattie just looked at her, surprised, before a small smile broke across his face. He cleared his own throat and replied, "Madame, trust me. My father beat plenty of lessons into me." He thought for a second before chuckling darkly. "Though, I'm sure he had different lessons in mind than you do."
(I think you're doing a good job of it.)

((Yeah, but being mean is really hard for me.))
Elizabeth cleared her throat, "It is not always the parents' fault. Some children," once again the word was dripping with disgust, "are failures from the start." She looked down her nose, and growled, "I would not be surprised if you were attracted to males, you unholy boy." She proceeded to cross herself in the Catholic manner, murmuring each savior quietly.

Mattie looked mildly disgusted. "You couldnt pay me to like another male, but I won't deny the unholy part." He leaned back into his seat. "Children don't start as failures. The people who raise them make them that way."
