Damn camera. Mine's broken too :/ Must be an unlucky month.
You can always try the rams when you have more experience, they are fun fish ^^
I kept them with 2 honey gouramis and 5 tetras.

I probably will. They're my favorite fish besides the Malawi Blue Dolphin.
That would be my dream fish. 3-5 of the in a huge tank.....

Not a bad name. When I can afford another 55 set up, I want rams. <3

That tank will be planted though. So the rams will be the absolute LAST thing I add.

Hope the camera problems are fixed soon.

Eh, the dolphin is not quite on my favorites list, they are just too large and wierd looking I find. Then again I've never been into african chiclids really. Why does it have a lump on its head anyway?

Ninja, good luck with getting that set up biggrin

thats a goofy looking fish XD

my dream fish is a saltwater fish
clown trigger <3 most angry trigger ever XD so i probably wont really be able to have it unless its all alone. its also one of the most expensive triggers. well at this point...even a niger trigger would work too...triggers just have this lovely way of swimming.

for freshwater fish i LOVE ghost knife fish and had one till it got ich and died after i added meds : ( you cant use copper on em cuz they are scaleless...they die....too late for that info.

I don't know what the lump is. 0_o
My dream fish would probably be some saltwater too but I don't think I'll ever have a saltwater tank.

Hmm, I have so many different species I want to try out, whole tank setups actually.
Hey, why not create a new thread about dreamfish?

That's a good idea...

My floating plants keep getting thrown down by the filter and come up upside down. How do I prevent this?
PostPosted: Sun Mar 08, 2009 12:40 am

Erg, that's annoying.
Well, maybe you can use driftwood to create a barrier on the surface on the far side of the filter. The plants can collect behind the wood. A thin twig wedged between the tank walls works just fine.

I'm assuming you are using a small kind of plant like duckweed. You can also try swiching to a larger more boyant plant like water cabbage:
Good luck

Thanks, I'll try the driftwood.
I have an awesome piece in the basement.

Sorry I haven't posted in a long time.
A ton of (bad) things have happened.

a. Another danio died.
b. Nitrate and Nitrite are at 5 and 40.
c. There is brown stuff on a little of the gravel and plants that looks like it was burnt or something.
d. I got tubifex worms and bloodworms today.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!
OMG!
*spazzes*

New POSSIBLE tank additions:

Zebra Pleco $300 eek // rolleyes
Dwarf Flag Cichlid <3 2 of them?
Red Flag Cichlid <3 Couldn't find barely any info.

Do I need to be worrying about general and carbonate hardness? I haven't been. sweatdrop

you should be careful with chichilds
they can be slightly aggressive or real aggressive depending on the the type
and if you still have danios they may become food.

how much are you feeding your tank and how mnay fish do you have now in it? maybe your tank was still cycling? you should really find out why your danios are dying before you buy more fish and make sure your parameters are also correct

your hardness you have to worry about if you have really hard water from the start
that can be a big problem for freshwater fish. so test your water before you add anything to it (like if you are getting it from tap or well or whatever)

if that is fine then you dont have to worry about it ever really

I have 6 fish now. sweatdrop
I feed them 5-6 times a week as much as they eat in 1 minute 30 seconds.

Could the danios be dying from the Nitrate/Nitrite?
Carbonate hardness: Off the scale, which ends at 240
General Hardness: 180
pH: 7.5
Nitrite: 5
Nitrate: 40
My ammonia is normally at 0-.25ish.

But I love chichlids. D;
Oh well, I'll wait a looooong time before getting new fish. And I shall investigate the cause of death. wink

you are feeding too much
that whole one minute thing is too much food imo

you're hardness is whats killing the fish. that hardness is even too high for saltwater fish. you need to buy a water softener...where is your water coming from?

i also think you have ammonia and nitrites because you feed too much

feeding is a science and needs to be altered a bit before you get the hang of it. i wouldnt get anything else until you fix these problems (hardness and your feeding amounts)
